Rainbow Trout Campsite
This was a great camping spot. We loved the private location and access to the river down the hill. The general area is remote and beautiful. Only downfall is that if someone is renting the Aframe down the hill then cars drive by the campsite as they come in and out. We had a great stay with our dogs!

It is in a beautiful area, also a little smaller of a campsite than I expected, but that wasn't a problem for us. The directions were better than I expected. Easy to follow and there are good landmarks to follow. River access is a steep walk down a hill, but fairly doable. And you can drive down if needed. Also you are only 20 minutes outside of town so you can enjoy the forest and river and then go to the harbor.

We enjoyed staying in this off-grid cabin for a night while on our road trip. With the right packing, this was a very comfortable and lovely stay. We walked down to the river (which actually wasn’t as close as we assumed) and enjoyed sitting on the deck doing some water coloring.
Some things to pack for a comfortable stay:
- Thick sheet for the bed to put under your sleeping bags
- Battery powered string lights and lanterns
- We opted for charcuterie so we didn’t have to cook.
I will say I think the $30 cleaning fee is a bit steep especially because we arrived to a somewhat smelly bathroom and a toilet filled with pee (we didn’t use the toilet because of this).
Jess' cabin is even prettier than the pictures, set up by someone who clearly loves the place. It's got a gorgeous view, great sunlight, and a sweet deck to hang out on during the day, and is romantic by kerosene lamp and firelight by night, stocked with books and games. We booked it for four nights as an evening getaway during a family visit, looking forward to sleeping in a bed after many days of tent camping.
Unfortunately, we didn't heed the "4wd recommended" tag- the cabin is at the bottom of a long, steep, narrow gravel driveway on the side of a steep bank. As we went down the hill we weren't sure we would make it back out, so we didn't unpack. We tested the way back up with our (front wheel drive) station wagon and got stuck halfway up with wheels spinning on loose gravel. We had to back down and attempt it again with more momentum - very much like snow driving. Our plan had been to come back after dark in the evenings after spending time each day with family, but we found the drive too harrowing to do multiple times.
We did end up borrowing a family member's 4wd car to spend one night- that was a much easier drive, and the stay was lovely. The main bed in the loft looking out the huge windows is very comfy. There is a second bed in a separate upstairs room, but it's basically an air mattress that was attached to a cot and wasn't fully inflated when we were there. Overall would recommend, especially if you have 4wd and want to hunker down in a peaceful spot.
I don't want to give this secret away. But truthfully this is a last-minute thing and it was probably the best one I've ever done anywhere all throughout Oregon they are awesome people trustworthy great property and secluded 😌😁😁🥰👌👍😎

Amazing location, splendid deck, fabulous riverfront full of singing birds. The A Frame was cool and rustic. We are not fancy folks but it could have been cleaner. The bathroom situation - the owner's suggestion was to add water to the bowl for number 2 and then use a plunger to flush. We would rather go No Trace, which we did. The toilet was also not very attractive. The directions could also be refined with more detail - mileage et al. However, we still had a restful visit and really enjoyed the locale. We live in an A-frame, kind of funky one too, and adore them. Loved the banana slugs, Great Horned Owl hoots at night, and for birders, there were other surprises like Nighthawks. Saw an elk herd on the drive in and out too, hanging with grazing cows.

This location was so private and peaceful! Easy access to the river, which was beautiful! It is way off the beaten path which I really enjoyed. The directions given on how to find the site were perfect and easy to follow.

Steelhead Cabin
We had a great experience at this cabin. It was warm, had separate and comfortable bedrooms for my friend and I and our three dogs. We enjoyed the privacy very much!
Make sure your vehicle has 4WD when booking this property as the driveway leading to the cabin is very steep. We had no problem in our Subaru!
Also, a portable toilet is helpful with this property as they have a bathroom but no water (we prepared beforehand as the host made this clear in the listing)
We appreciated the communication and hospitality of our hosts and would recommend this place for a great off grid camping trip!
We usually camp off grid so knew exactly what to expect when booking this listing. We brought our own power, lights and toilet setup and had no issues.
The drive in was so cool - we saw elk and turkeys and it was absolutely beautiful.
Jess was super quick on communicating and the booking was easy and went smoothly.
We were pleasantly surprised that despite not having power, there were lights available so all we had to do was bring in our power bank!
The fireplace was AWESOME - put out great heat and easy to build/manage a fire.
I wish you could see the river from the deck - but it was neat to walk down to the confluence of the river and the dry creek that backs up to state land.
One thing to note - if you are not booking both sites - the tent/car camp site is on a bluff just above the A-Frame, so you could have someone right above you. We didn't but noticed that on our drive down to the cabin.
