Enjoy a bespoke picnic underneath the apple trees, or lay a round of disc golf on our 18-hole course onsite. At night, roast some s'mores or sip some local wine or beer by the outdoor firepit. Humboldt hideaway is a small intimate SHARED space with residents. The outdoor kitchen, deck with a view, and campfire ring are all connected to the main resident house. There are places of seclusion, but much of it is shared outdoor space. Humboldt Hideaway is a small off-the-grid LGBTQ+ queer land project in Northern California. It is set on 12 acres of hilly terrain in the mixed fir and oak woods of Humboldt County, a half-hour east of Arcata. Back in 2001, when it was established, it was undeveloped with nothing on it. It has since been built up with the scrappy efforts of amateur creative dreamers. It is a home and resource to extended LGBTQ+ communities by being a small-scale rural resource for learning and sharing useful rural living skills and being a destination for visits, artist and activist retreats, and host to small groups and events. Anyone is welcome at Humboldt Hideaway, but please understand that it is an intentional place committed to anti-oppression values. It is important that it remain a safer space for people identifying as queer and/or transgender, as well as a supportive space for women and people of color to freely be. Please make sure you do not anticipate any concerns/problems with this. NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: The property is conveniently located midway between the coast/redwoods and the Trinity River/Trinity Alps backpacking. It is a 45 minute drive to the coast of Trinidad, which has some of the most lovely coves and beaches and Patrick's Point State Park. It is a half hour drive to the coastal Ma-le'l dunes. And it is a half hour drive inland to swimming holes on the Trinity River. OFF-THE-GRID: The place is off-the-grid, no internet, only limited solar power, an on-demand propane water heater, and heated by woodstoves. Structures are a combination of natural building, salvaged, and new materials, with a mix of low-tech alternative technologies- all built with lots of love and help from friends. BOOKING A GROUP: There is potentially both cabin space and camping spots. The property can accommodate a group of up to 10 people. If you wish to book a group, please get in touch and we'll have you book all of the spaces- including some that are not currently listed, as they are in the shared lodge space. The Redwoods Bend Retreat is a place to get away from it all. Located on the Yurok reservation right on the Klamath River just outside Orick, CA, we are "off the grid", through a Redwood forest and over a mountain down into the Klamath River valley. We have a 5 acre meadow, and orchard with 50 trees, peaches pears, apples, cherries, plums, pluots, apricots and grapes. We are right on the Klamath river. It's a great place to come and recharge your internal batteries. There is no cellphone service and none of our sites have internet service. Our Main House was built in 1952 and retains the flavor of the 50’s. It houses a kitchen, dining hall, a living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Our log-built Lodge overlooks the Klamath River with 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom and wrap-around covered porch. Our Pumpkin and Blue Cottages. They are close to the double Yellow Shower house and toilets, and they have hot and cold running water, a propane cooktop, and a wood stove for heat. We do NOT have refrigeration, and our solar batteries or generator provides us lights at night. Campers who use our Cottages may use their own sleeping bags, but we have beds with mattresses and pillows and clean bedding. We also have an Upper Barn bedroom and half-bath rental. Our two-story Riverview Yurt appeals to folks who want a full kitchen, a private shower and flush toilet overlooking the Klamath river from our 50 x 50 foot upper deck. Luscious to sit outside and watch the river flow by during the day, and to let the water lull you to sleep at night. For families (up to 8), folks who like to fish, or old friends who just want a very special get-away. Each of our six campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Our Maple River, Grotto River and Pepperwood River sites overlook the gorgeous Klamath River. Our Morning Meadow, Orchard Meadow, and Deer Meadow sites are close to our 5 acre meadow where blacktail deer graze in the evenings. We have a Yellow double Shower House with two separate sides, each with a toilet, sink and shower and on demand hot water, so folks don't have to wait. There's also a new Camp Shower at the corner of the orchard for our campers, along with two outhouses for camper use, one at the bottom of the road down to the meadow, and another in the woods just past Deer Meadow Camp. We see lots of wildlife; silver foxes, a bald eagle and a family of river otters downstream, vultures, blue heron, occasionally an osprey will fly overhead clutching a freshly caught salmon and call to each other to brag about it! There are rare sightings of timid black bears who run from humans, but sometimes can be seen grazing in the meadow with the black-tail deer. We're surrounded by old logging trails made by the lumber companies 80 years ago when they clear cut the old growth redwood on our side of the mountain, and now it's completely reforested with 200 ft tall Doug Fir, Madrone, Cedar, Oak, other pine species and Pepper wood trees, and we have written permission from the Green Diamond company to allow guest to hike on their adjacent properties.

Walk among geological masterpieces millions of years in the making. Bouldering and rock climbing activities are on site. We have a very diverse habitat with many different edible berries including Salal, thimbleberry, black cap raspberry, red huckleberry a few of my favorites. We also forage our own Chanterelle, Matsutake, Saffron milk caps, Oyster and Hedgehog mushrooms. I’m the administrator of our local Trinity county Fungi Club and also host guided foraging tours! Mushroom cultivation courses are also available upon request. Down the hill Hyampom Valley has some of the best swimming holes in Trinity county. The water is crystal clear. Rafter’s kayaker’s and fisher’s paradise. Home to absolutely prolific Salmon and Steelhead. In town we have the Hyampom General store with all your basic necessities and fuel. Bar and restaurant next door has delicious food, staff is awesome. Very tightly knit community we have. We have camp sites with bathroom and shower available. The Tower is hidden away on top of a hill in the Mattole Valley, a steep 500-foot switchback hike through Douglas firs on a trail built especially to reach it. It is set within its own hilltop meadow. The property is about 2 acres all in all, with the main house just down below at the bottom of the trail where I live. Enjoy total seclusion and privacy in this unusual Lost Coast hideaway. Accessible only by a STEEP 500-ft trail, you must be fairly fit to appreciate this remote spot. The climb will take you to a two-storey 'tower' built around two water tanks. The Mattole River is just over the road below. Enjoy the spectacular bird life. The remote Mattole Beach is just six miles away and makes for great hiking and beachcombing. **Important Check-in info** The Tower is a property that preferably needs a guide to show you up there initially. It is hidden, and you’ll benefit from a quick orientation up there. Check-in before dark, please, due to the trail. The upper storey of the Tower has a double sized bed,and comfy. Line-dried fresh-smelling bedding. This room also has a long sofa, Deco chairs, redwood window seats and a long cherrywood table. There is also a sink upstairs for easy teeth brushing etc. The Tower is on two floors, connected by an outside staircase. So *PLEASE NOTE* that as the bathroom is on the lower floor you will need to go down the *outside* stairs to the bathroom. Downstairs is the bathroom, shower and kitchen in one open plan room. The lower storey also houses water tanks, wrapped in canvas painted by a local artist. The spring water is excellent for drinking. Relax beneath the stars in the outdoor in-ground copper bath tub, with plenty of space for two and a small surrounding deck for glasses of wine, or take a hot shower outside, looking out onto the hills. Enjoy ceramicist Jim Danisch's sculptures punctuating the trail. In collaboration with Petrolia's craftspeople, the Tower was designed by my father, a writer and lover of art. For groceries, the local Petrolia store has most basics (including a gas pump) but its provisions are limited so please bring your own special groceries if you want more than basic. Please note there are ZERO bars and restaurants in Petrolia. Bear in mind that the Petrolia Store closes at 5pm, so be sure to bring groceries with you if you're arriving later than that, especially for that first night's dinner! To enable a real break and total relaxation, there is no WiFi! There is very limited cell service in Petrolia. There is a landline available for your private use in the Tower. Petrolia is off the beaten track and lies at the end of a very winding, rugged road with potholes a-plenty. Ordinary cars can make it, but if you are hiring a car you will be better off hiring an all wheel car that is not too low off the ground. Be prepared for a real rural retreat. The tower is right in the wilderness atop a hill, so be prepared to hear and see animals around. Please note that I have been hosting on another platform for many years with lots of happy guests. Weekend Trip to Bueno Mana Homestead

We loved our stay in the red barn. The place was spacious, clean and cozy with a wood burning stove and musical instruments. The grounds were out of this world! Trails of lush redwood forest for morning and evening walks with our pups. It was a dream! Thank you so much!

The Bayside cabin was perfect for my anniversary getaway. The bed was comfortable and the cabin was warm and cozy with the indoor fireplace. I love an outdoor shower, especially when the water is piping warm too. We woke up each morning to the beautiful natural environment of the PNW and enjoyed a cup of coffee from the French press by the fireside. It was also great being so close to Arcata town center... We enjoyed the spa/sauna at Finnish country along with cool thrift/record stores and lots of great places to eat.

Absolutely lovely. Just a perfect place to stay. I highly recommend and would most definitely like to return. Also. Please post disc golf rules so we can learn since there’s a course on the property.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Amy's place! It was so comfortable and inviting and the many attentions to details made it very special. Set in the hills surrounded by redwoods, we enjoyed the scenery and thrle quite. There was plenty of space for our family of four. Though there is a tv, we didn't find it necessary, and spent each evening playing board games by the wood fire stove listening to the record player. The location is very convenient to the Redwood Nat Park, the oceanfront beaches and several local breweries.

What an incredible place to be. The land is deeply peaceful and beautiful and totally accessible with trails throughout, making this spot an ideal place for respite. The barn is cozy yet surprisingly roomy, and equipped with everything we needed for an extended stay. The hosts were very responsive, accommodating and personable. We’re so grateful to have been held by this place and its stewards.

Wow! This place is perfect! Forested enough to know that you are peacefully camping in the woods with enough modern convenience to be happy, sanitary and spoiled. (Hot water outdoor shower, private flush toilet, hot water sink, cooking supplies, etc.), The cabin itself is GORGEOUS and beautifully designed. The uniqueness of every well thought out detail is wonderful. The banana slugs lend the perfect sense of humor as they become quite the little subjects for many quirky photographs. Thank you!!

Absolutely loved this cabin. It was SO COZY. We brought blankets and started a fire, made coffee, watched the slugs, rested, and enjoyed the sound of the rain here! Outdoor shower was hot and great. Loved the outdoor kitchen. We want to come back!!!!

Loved this place. The property is eclectic and beautiful. We had everything we needed. The location felt private, tucked away in the redwoods, but was so convenient to 101 for exploring. There are stunning beaches in just a few minutes drive

This may be my second review on Bayside cabin. It was a wonderful stay . A really welcoming charming cabin. It was quiet, clean and the stove and outdoor shower were wonderful. There was a camp stove and one would need to bring propane canisters . This was a really great addition and it would be easy to get them nearby because the town was easily accessible with everything you would need. .I look forward to coming again . It was an awesome spot to explore the redwoods and the coast. Thank you again Ted and Emily
