Our camping areas are fenced from the animals but you are free to explore our 12 acres and interact with the animals during your stay here. We ask that children under 10 stay outside the animal areas and children over 10 are accompanied by a grownup. We have plenty of art and child friendly activities, just ask and we can set you up. We have 5 dogs so the birds have NO FEAR of them. ---- We are a working farm - PLEASE READ----- There are donkeys, roosters, dogs and peacocks that make noise, sometimes at night and always early in the morning. Please be aware that you may hear the donkeys bray (usually lasts about 30 seconds), roosters crow, guinea fowl chirp. It is startling and will wake you up. We do our best to keep the dogs hushed but we cannot stop the donkeys, roosters and peacocks from doing their thing. If you are a light sleeper, please bring earplugs or select another wonderful Hipcamp in our area, thank you! In addition to the interesting sounds you will hear, you will encounter dirt, poop and spiders. Since we are a working farm, things get dirty. We spray all high traffic surfaces twice a day but things get dirty and when it rains it is muddy. Please plan accordingly. We are centrally located between Grass Valley and Auburn, giving you access to endless recreational activities, wineries, breweries and restaurants. We have 50 or so rescued farm animals, you can interact with our pig Hank, Mojo the goat or Teddy the alpaca. You can walk the property to observe the horses, or sign up for a special horse, tractor, or welding experience. Come camp in a very quiet and safe horse and farming area. We are near the end of a dead-end road. Our camping sites are somewhat private, some with more shade and others with more mid-day sun. We specialize in "Horse Experiences" tailored to your level of comfort and needs. None of the horse experiences listed on our site require any prior experience with horses. We will make sure you are safe and comfortable while working with the horses. *NOTE: Experiences are not available on Sundays (our sabbath day). We can fit them in on Saturday afternoon/evening for Saturday-night campers, or Monday morning for Sunday-night campers. We have a private bathroom with flush toilet and sink. Summertime brings hot days and (usually) cool nights to our area. It is not uncommon to experience 100 degree days in June, July and August. We are located about 10 minutes from the Galt area, which has a large variety of Fast-food, as well as several nicer restaurants. There is also a Wal-Mart (with groceries) and a nice Supermarket. It's a great place to hang your hammock and bring a good book or birdwatch. Frolic has been an adventure for me in Saying Yes to life and the rewarding challenges it brings. I fell in love with the huge grama oaks, the pristine pond and the feral overgrown everything. It has been a workin' progress and lots of time to sweat, craft, pause and listen. The property is shaped like a pint glass, running north to south, with a lovely bowl the pond sits in and an ancient meadow up behind the cabin full of apples 🍎 & pears 🍐. Up the hill, a hotter zone, more exposed with its own beauty, where we live. On the occasion, one of us may come down to the pond for a swim, especially when it's too hot up top. We will be respectful but likely just need to cool down. Frolic has been a great teacher in reminding me to PLAY, relax and go with the flow. I hope you can find the same joy and rejuvenation here.

The back part of the property was a stop point for the stage line between Oroville and Bangor during the 1880, Then gold was discovered on the property. There were multiple Gold claims on this property. The Old rock pilings are still there to explore. It is a favorite spot for finding Jasper, some Agates and quartz. Campers are welcome year-round to this tent site on the old Gold Claim of our 20-acre family farm! Drive right up to this fun-filled, family-friendly campsite, easily accessible by cars and SUVs alike - though 4WD is helpful during the rainy season. This site features two seasonal streams that cross on the property, as well as bushes full of ripe blackberries - if you catch them at the right time, help yourself. Weekend Trip to Frolic Pond Cabin

The cabin was very cozy and the scenery was beautiful. It was near a lot of wonderful hiking trails and a cute town. It was the perfect mix of secluded but not totally isolated and even though it was cold, the cabin is a converted sauna and got very toasty with a fire.

Weekend Trip to Cosumnes River Ranch

Wow what an absolutely beautiful property. Rachel and Jon are very kind and helpful. We enjoyed a few hours of hiking around the property. Loved seeing so much wild life and the sweet cows that graze around the property. I can see why summer would be a more enjoyable time to visit. We stayed in cabin # 2 and although a very beautiful spot and cabin, For the $480 for 2 nights price I was surprised there wasn’t sheets/blankets or a propane stove or bbq or some way to cook food. so make sure you bring anything necessary to cook food and linens and blankets for the bed. There is a fire pit outside but no grill or way to cook food. It does have a wood stove inside as a heat source so make sure you also bring firewood especially in the colder months.

We had a great time camping here and interacting with the farm animals. Lots of room to set up our tent and park at the site, and they supplied a picnic table and fire cage. We enjoyed seeing and hearing the trains go by and the roosters crowing (may be too loud for some). Hosts were friendly and helpful.

Weekend Trip to Ascension Ranch

I am writing this review to warn everyone that there is no longer a tent/yurt set up at Lovers Creek. When I asked the man about it, he said that a guest had brought the tent it wasn't included in the site, which is a lie if you look at all the reviews and pics there used to be a tent that stayed on the wooden platform. Luckily I brought my tent just in case so we didn't need to leave. The road getting onto his property is very narrow and beautiful and I wouldn't have been comfortable taking my car, I was glad to have a truck. The restroom is down at the "entrance" and a 10 min walk to the Lovers Creek site. We took the truck each time. There were cute animals to see on the property. Roads are very dusty! The best part about this place and the main reason I might come back is for the privacy. After check in, no one bothered us and the nearest campsite maybe 500 feet away across the other side.

What an incredible camping experience for our Girl Scout troop! The hosts help create memories with our girls, feeding animals, getting to know the farm cats and dogs, "racing" horses, jumping on the trampoline and swinging on the swings, with on tents set up on soft grass and the hosts incredibly responsive to our communications via the app (quick to respond and act).

This was a perfect camping spot for my overnights in the area - it was safe, good directions, clean, quiet (except for the sweet roosters and nearby train, which were not bothersome at all!) and pleasant with a nice sunrise view. It was an added bonus to have access to a real toilet with running water. I myself was super happy to be the only one there and to be able to walk my dogs about and to not have to share the (large) open space with anyone else! I would stay here again (and plan to if possible) in a heartbeat.

Weekend Trip to Ascension Ranch

The hosts were very friendly and bathrooms were very clean! My group did not have any issues with the horses that previous reviews mentioned. The campsite is very remote and the closest town is about a 30 min drive, so I recommend packing all food with you and planning to do activities at the campsite. I would also recommend checking in during the daylight to avoid confusion with the gates and finding your campsite. As a heads up, the lake shore was about a 1 mile walk from the campsite. Happy camping!

We had a great time! The campsite was clean and well maintained and so were the bathrooms! We were walking distance to a lake, which was fun and as a group of 8 with 4 dogs, had plenty of space there for us. We also were allowed to have a campfire, which was fun and enjoyed getting to know the camp livestock guardian dog, Cairo!

Such a beautiful campsite! Eagles Nest was at the top of the ranch with beautiful views of the sunset. Very cozy and private. My friends and I had a great time here (: Would recommend, and would go again!
