We are an off-grid, solar-powered, 25-acre lakeside venue and permaculture-inspired, lifestyle-rich collaborative that is a retreat and event venue, and hosts guests for glamping. Heartland exists where the wilderness of off-grid life meets an artistic collective that sings possibility to the fringe dwellers of the Regenerative Eco-Village movement. Heartland offers everyone a break from the craziness of what so many call "Life" and a view of what can be co-created with each other for each other. As in permaculture, the Heartland model is about doing more with less, it's about allowing our individual and diverse natural Flow states to merge, forging new pathways of co-creation that are the true answer to our collective purpose. We invite teams and individuals to come to build through our Heartlander Work-Trade program or join retreats or workshops focused on one of our 4 Heartland Pillars: OuterWork - InnerWork - Transformation - Celebration. We hold harmony, creativity, innovation, connection, and shared leadership as core building blocks of our vision. Our private-membership based organization offers various levels of engagement. You've been called here, so we invite you to explore our tracks. The Heartland Collective is a prototype for a larger collective of regenerative communities where members can own shared equity in land and use a commonly held currency that interchanges between each location offering unique flexibility. *As of 1/1/2025 we do not have lake access. We have a pool, cold plunges, and various water features on-site and there is a really cool swimming hole near by.We are an off-grid, solar-powered, 25 acre, lakeside retreat center featuring glamping, camping, and event venue with an emphasis on a permaculture-inspired, lifestyle rich collaborative. Heartland offers people a retreat from the chaos of life and offers a perspective of what can be co-created with each other for each other. As in permaculture, the Heartland model is about doing more with less, it's about allowing our individual and diverse natural flow states to merge, forging new pathways of co-creation that are the true answer to our collective purpose. About our seasons: *Spring*: March - May The shire is alive! It's fresh, green, and the lake is (usually) 100% full. It's a beautiful time to visit. Nights can still be cool, so check the weather and be prepared to bring extra layers of clothes and bedding if needed. *Summer*: June - July (closed August) The Northern California oak savannah around is expansive with its golden grass, and temps are on the rise, making it ideal to enjoy the lake! Bring your own water toys. Fishing by permit only. *Fall*: September - November It's gorgeous here, and the lake gets low this time of year, which makes for wonderful hiking, but you can still access swimmable water ... it's just a bit further to get to. *Winter*: December - January (closed February) We shift into cooler months and shorter days, which makes for cozy camping experiences! We are just above 300 feet in elevation, so we do not receive snow here, but in the winter we get ample rain, which means rainbows! We recommend extra layers of clothing and bedding during this season. ABOUT THE SITE + AMENITIES: Our premium, Kodiak canvas tents are 140 square feet and have tall, 6'6" ceilings and are great for up to 4 people. Included is one full-size bed with all seasonally appropriate bedding, and additional mattresses with bedding are available to rent for $20 each. Please message us before your arrival if you want additional beds. Food: Bring your own meals for your stay. We recommend a cooler to keep your food fresh, but also have available a refrigerator and freezer in the communal kitchen. We do not have ice. Pet Policy: We welcome leashed dogs for $10/dog/night (2 max). Please be sure to pick up after your pet and properly dispose of waste. A liability waiver must be signed to have your pet(s) on property. Trash, Recycling, Composting: We do not have trash or recycling services on-site, so we ask that whatever you bring with you, you take with you! We suggest bringing some trash bags and even a container for your trash to help you take your trash and recycling items with you. In the communal kitchen we have a receptacle for your food scraps (no meat or seafood!) that we can compost for you. The idea is to leave no trace! Safety: It is important to us that all guests feel safe. If you don't feel safe about something, please bring it to the attention of any team member to address. We welcome ALL people here. We are all nature and diversity is what makes the jungle one of the most amazing places in the world. We are not yet completely ADA friendly but it's on the road map for the future. :) ON-SITE ENHANCEMENTS: Infinipod multi-sensory experience: Want a mind altering experience? We have a multi-sensory exultation tank that offers a meditative experience not found anywhere else. Soon after laying down, you will feel the vibrations through the table that correspond with the curated audio coming through your headset, all while experiencing virtual spaces through VR goggles. This is an experience you won't soon forget! Cost: $60/1hour Kayak: Explore the lake with greater access using one of our single-person kayaks. Includes a carrier to easily transport it to the lake (3-5 minute walk). Cost: $25/4 hours or $35/all day Hen house: Interested in a little animal therapy? Our "girls" (hens) are a delight to engage with, and many enjoy being picked up and loved on. You can even feed them treats! Cost: $20 per person - 30 minutes Farm fresh eggs: Directly from our healthy, happy, free-range hens! 6 for $6 or 1 dozen for $10 NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: Swimming hole: A short 15-minute drive away is a beautiful and clear swimming hole with a tire swing available all year. Another very highly recommended day trip is the famous Yuba river, which is approx. 1-hour away. Store: The nearest and best store is 30 minutes away so plan accordingly (Holiday Market, Auburn). Fuel: Also 30 minutes away at the intersection of Hwy. 49 and Wolf Rd. across the road from Holiday Market. We look forward to welcoming you to Heartland Collective :)

Anders and Sharma were incredibly welcoming. They have a magical set up that you can tell was infused with a lot of love. I highly recommend checking out what they've dreamt up and created! Waking up to the sound of birds and the breeze was a healing experience

We had a wonderful stay at Heartland Collective! Shama and Anders both were very welcoming and friendly, and checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay. Our walk on the lake bed behind the property when the water levels were lower was truly a very peaceful and surreal experience that we really enjoyed. We also loved cooking dinner in the kitchen area while watching the beautiful sunset. We would recommend bringing a headlamp for walking around the campsite at night, and definitely order the heater during the winter months. We went in November - there were no bugs and you didn’t have to worry about any critters! The tents were very clean and loved the rug decor. We look forward to coming back to stay here again during the warmer months and seeing how the landscape transforms during that season!

Gorgeous setting that is beautiful and artistic. We were blown away by the creativity and care shown by everyone at Heartland. Check-in was easy, the tent and included bedding were pristine, and we were very impressed by the quality of the facilities (restrooms, showers, sinks, kitchen, etc.). The hosts were friendly and available to answer questions and chat when needed.

It was our first time camping in over 4 years, and what an excellent way to get back into nature. Shama and Anders were such hospitable hostesses. The directions provided for getting to the property were such a time-saver! Our tent was spacious and comfortable, and the private property was quaint and full of personality. They do a great job keeping the community areas stocked, clean, and ready. My partner and I left a day earlier than expected because our dog was feeling a bit anxious, and we thought it was because we hadn't been out in nature in such a long time. But our overall stay was relaxing and revitalizing; our favorite moments were when we just sat outside our tent and napped while feeling the cool breeze. It was heaven on earth, and we can't wait to return!

It is a bit of a journey to get out there, very dusty roads but the camp is well kept. Has running water and lake access. There are also lots of other resources available like an outdoor kitchen and sink. Feels like it would be great for a retreat or a family reunion. The hosts are friendly and do check on you. There are lots of birds to enjoy if you are a birder! The lake has fishing and boating. The camp provides paddle boats and kayaks if you are interested.

Overall our stay was a bittersweet experience due to the unexpected heat wave. I am sure it would have been more enjoyable on around the cooler season. I must say that the workers are friendly and respectful. The “burning man”, theme with all the lighting at night is nicely put together and pretty. The downside is that the toiletries could use more attention, especially the ones by the lake access. We have recommended the campground to our family and friends.

This place is amazing and the people there are so nice. This is definitely one of my favorite places to stay. Absolutely beautiful property with great amenities to make your stay something special. I have to say that it really went way beyond my expectations on how wonderful this property is..great people amazing privacy with a beautiful view and amazing beach to enjoy the lake. Will not only be back I will be a regular guest now that I had the opportunity to stay. Keep up the amazing job you guys are doing and I will definitely see you soon. Thank you for letting me enjoy your place.

Stayed in Tent 3 with our pup. Such a wonderful weekend, everyone was helpful and friendly. Loved walking the paths along the lake with the pup. We rented a space heater because the weekend had a bit of a cold snap and we were very comfortable. Cooked dinners and breakfast in the outdoor kitchen, which was wonderfully stocked. Even the kitchen has amazing sunset views!

We loved the tent camping. Bedding was comfortable for 2. Common kitchen. Vessels, cleaning supplies, grill and burner were available. Lot of tables around kitchen. For few tents you would have to walk up to common kitchen/tables. Only few sites have their own dining tables. Kayak with life jacket for adults. For kids bring your own. We didn’t use though. Host was very friendly. It was very greenish and lake was accessible.

Stayed there over the weekend. The place is charming! Great entrance, the kitchen is cozy and have all the necessities, even though we brought our own cooking stuff. It's was raining the first day, but our tent (#3) stayed dried inside. The hike around the reservoir was great, but be ready to be full of mud if it's wet. The only cons I can think of: the bed is not super long, if you're more than 5'7, be ready to have your feet out of the bed. We will definitely be back!

This was our second time staying here at heartland collective and we absolutely love it. Everything is super comfy clean and sure relaxation. I especially love that we can use the lake! The kitchen space is awesome. Everything about the place is fabulous! Thanks so much can’t wait to see you again.

This property was absolutely amazing & so beautiful! It was a very hot weekend but my 2 year old daughter, sister, husband & I mostly stayed in the water! As well as there being a few water features at the property! Directions were super clear & easy to get there. Although some cons, they aren’t enough to keep us from coming back! We will definitely be back again, soon! Cons: #1 Tent #3 was directly in the sunlight so no shade until about 8/8:30pm #2 there was a bunch of ants inside the tent on the floor & bed since it was super hot from morning till around 8:30pm. #3 no trash on site, you have to take all trash with you!

My husband and I absolutely enjoyed our stay at Heartland Collective. The place is well maintained and hosts were friendly made sure we were comfortable with the arrangements there. The site we booked has lake facing view, and we loved watching Fred-The Lama by the lakeside in the evenings. We rented kayaks from the hosts for a day (the kayaks are well maintained) and had great time Kayaking in the lake

My new home away from home?

This last wknd was the 2nd time my bf and I sought well-deserved refuge off the grid at Anders and Shama's lovely space. The drive itself to get there is stunning. You basically go lightly "off-roading" past happy cows & green hills. It's immediate how you appreciate the effort that goes into building on a large plot of land from scratch. Whether you consider yourself a creative spirit, a Burner, or even more so, a human being, it is easy to find wondrous and whimsical views all around. There are many spaces built, with care, for you to sit and just, be. You'll be enveloped by sounds of birds (so far, we've accounted for 15 different types), lush terrain, & a huge lake that's steps away. The lake's awesome. Bring floaties from home, rent the kayaks, DON'T forget your water shoes! The outdoor kitchen's well set up. Make sure to bring your own spices, cooking oils, food, drinks, and paper towels/rags. The set up has every type of pot, pan, cooking utensils and stoves. Don't forget to purchase farm fresh eggs. That's a must. I don't need to say more about the outdoor showers except you'll want one for your home. So. Cool. The tents are spacious and comfortable! We loved seeing silhouettes of tiny lizards sunbathing on the exterior of ours in the morning. Bring extra lights to string around the area; above your head & on the ground. The property's lit at night, but your area will benefit from glowing decor. I'll be going up for a 3rd time soon! Can't wait.

The place was relaxing. The weather was pleasant. Lot of area to explore. The kitchen was fully equipped. Host was very welcoming. Make sure to follow the direction instructions.

Everything was as described; We had the place to ourselves, so that was awesome! The kitchen was cool 😎 and the bell tent was super cute. I was grateful for the tent light, and the propane heater. That felt so nice. It was a nice retreat from the usual.

I arrived at the campsite during nighttime and was immediately captivated by the enchanting and magical lights around me. I suffer from PTSD and came here with my kids and their mother. I felt like it was slowly mending my soul back together.

We enjoyed Anders & Shama’s camp site. The tent was nice and bed inside was comfortable. It was hot so having the lake so close was very nice. The directions they provide were very clear and we were able to get there very easily. The kitchen was nice and well stocked. Their property has a lot of cool art so it was nice walking around and checking it out.

My host move us to tent 3 with our permission, the tent # 3 is a little dusty. Bed is very uncomfortable, bad for people who has bad issue like us. I like the place with kitchen but since it is a community kitchen people did not clean after use. Shower room has 6 slots but only able to use one at a time, I enjoy the morning whether there, but can not be survive with out big tree shade. Enjoy eating breakfast on the desk

Heartland Collective was a wonderful experience in so many ways. A beautiful piece of land with a gorgeous lake, unique art & sculptures, and very comfortable canvas bell tents. The owners and working volunteers were all very warm and welcoming to myself and my 9-year old daughter. We both felt very comfortable and relaxed right from the start of our 3-night stay. The lake was blissful! We spent hours every day swimming and reading books next to the water. The bed in our canvas bell tent was so comfortable and there are nice small touches everywhere, both within our tent as well as across the entire property. I was pleasantly surprised and grateful for the outdoor kitchen access that was included. The rates are beyond reasonable for all that is here to experience and to relax into. We can't wait to go back!
