Primal Lands at OZ Family Farm is set in the Rocktree Valley just East of Willits. We are a working family farm about 15 minutes, from the town center.
The camp sites are in a private pasture with views of snow capped mountains in the winter and a beautiful moon rising above the tree tops in the summer. There are two streams that the campsites are located next to. one seasonal and one year round. This peaceful valley is home to an extensive amount of wildlife. It hosts both wild pigs and turkeys as well as deer, bobcats, foxes, rabbits and an occasional mountain lion or bear have veen spotted. You should bring your binoculars because the valley is lined with acres upon acres of forests and wooded hills that are home to an incredible variety of birds and tree species.
We hope our primal land will help expose people to the diverse flora and fauna around them and help educate them to the need to protect the diversity in people, places and our planet. All of which bring an important piece of the puzzle to the table and hold keys to our past and future.
We hope to be able to have the honor of hosting many different groups that can gather here on this land for learning, teaching and cummuning with the nature that flourishes here.
There is an abundance of things to do in and around Willits. It can be your cozy get away to rest, read a book next to the sounds of the stream or hike and ride a bike or a horse down our dirt roads.
The Skunk Train in town can take you on a trip through through the Redwood Forest and Noyo River Canyon towards Fort Bragg. It stops along its route to see the Wolf Tree Redwood. The oldest along its tracks.
You also have the option of booking an excursion on the Railbikes which leave from both Willits or Fort Bragg and use the same train tracks.
If your driving to Fort Bragg you will want to go to Glass Beach on the coast and check out the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens or do a Scavenger Hunt.
There is also the Coast Redwood growing in Montgomery Woods State Park to our south having what was thought for a long time to be the tallest known tree in the world at close to 365 feet tall. It stands 5 stories higher than the Statue of Liberty.
In the town of Willits there a myriad of options. Eclectic shopping at Mazahan or Earths Treasures or classics at The GOOD Shoppe or Art in the Plaza. Gateway games offers weekly card and board game competitions or go visit Ridgewood Ranch, the final home of the legendary Racehorse Seabiscuit.
If camping , hiking and relaxing just isn't enough to fill your day there is golf available in Brooktrails and Mendocino County is home to ten different appellations of wine with over 25% dedicated to organic and sustainable farming.

There is no wifi available on the campsite but upon arrival we will direct you to the main farmhouse, walking distance if you need anything or need wifi

Guests love staying here: "Elderberry camp was really great! It was a large site, plenty of space, shade, and parking. Very peaceful and good distance between other sites although we were pretty much the only campers out there. Outhouse was clean and there was drinking water. We spent most of our Saturday in Eel River which was great. The water was perfect for swimming and fishing, our husbands caught some big ones. Stephen was very nice and accommodating, the honey and eggs we asked for were a nice addition too!"

The pond site is located on a private, internal dirt road, which provides for absolute privacy. It's like experiencing an outback camping experience with the amenities of car camping. A clean outhouse, a spigot with cold, delicious mountain spring water, and a bi-level campsite with picnic table is at the site. A fire pit and second picnic table is located next to the pond for a delightful stargazing experience.
The pond is a healthy, spring fed ecosystem and quite refreshing on those hot days. It is big enough for small kayaks, paddle boards, and rafts too.

We have installed a new fire pit this year!! Upon your arrival, you will find
complimentary, match-light firewood set up in the pit for a warm welcome to your site. More firewood is available for purchase throughout your stay. It is illegal in California to travel across county borders with firewood. Firewood often has insect eggs or larvae that can devastate a forest. Please refrain from bringing firewood purchased or harvested from outside Mendocino County.
The Best Rest Along the Way:
We have created a “self-contained” dry campsite along our main road that is van and truck camping friendly, and can take travel trailers max 16’ length. This site has no amenities and is intended to accommodate people who need a place to catch a rest without sleeping on the roadside, although many do like it as a bear bones campsite.
We are conveniently located about 10 min from the 101, for easy in-and-out access. There are lengthy internal roads and trails for unwinding and stretching your legs. Did I mention that town is less than 10 minutes from your campsite? If you forget anything, it is no biggie to run and get what you need.

The communal fire pit sits in the middle of Candy Cap Meadow, ringed with stumps and open to the night sky, and it's where everybody ends up after dark to share a drink and swap stories. The dining area is nearby, tarped and filled with picnic tables and a long work space.
THE SAUNA
A wood-fired sauna built of reclaimed redwood, smelling sweet like bourbon. Come in cold off the headlands, stoke up the stove, and let the heat work into your bones while the fog moves through the pines outside. There's a hot shower and a composting toilet in the same bathhouse.
THE COAST
The water is about a five minute walk. From there the old Haul Road runs flat and paved along the bluffs for miles in both directions, so you can go as far as you feel like: tide pools and harbor seals at Laguna Point about fifteen minutes up, Glass Beach a couple miles south.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES AND EDUCATION
Local folks who know this coast teach here through the season. Tide pooling, coastal foraging, rolling your own sushi out on the rocks with what you just picked up, mushroom forays, and more. Nobody expects you to show up knowing anything, and classes book separately from your site.
Winter is just as good as summer, maybe even better! The rains bring the mushrooms up, the candy caps really do smell like maple syrup, and the lowest tides of the year come in winter and spring. The winter weather here is mild too, so it might just be warmer than you expect!
GOOD TO KNOW
-Rigs up to 25 feet, so vans and small campers fit. No trailers and no big rigs, so it stays quiet, and no generators, TVs or stereos.
-No hookups, water or electric.
-Bring your own drinking water, a gallon per person per day. Water onsite is non-drinkable.
-No pets, service animals excepted.
-Campfires happen in the communal pit. We ask that you pay $8 a night for firewood, and we'll keep you supplied with all you need.
-This is an inclusive property. We welcome people of every race, gender, age, background, and belief.

The coastal bike and hike trails are many. From South of Ft Bragg to the Sand Dunes near Ward Ave. you can travel over 7 miles one way and go down to quiet little beach coves along the way.
Meadow Farm is a nonprofit 501c3 with goals of coastal food security, disaster preparation and sheltering, carbon sequestering and forest restoration. We offer native plant tours on or off site with advance notice.
We like our dog companions! Two McNab collies, Moxie and Shama live here and may bark at first...still very friendly and social with people (gentle with children) and other dogs.. There are several dog friendly off-leash areas such as, Noyo North Harbor Beach, Seaside Beach and dog parks in both Ft Bragg and Mendocino. Our farm is dog friendly tho we wish pets to be kept close, must be neutered and friendly to other dogs and people. Please be sure to bag dog waste.
Speaking of waste, Meadow Farm strives to reduce waste by avoiding plastic as much as possible, recycling what we can and composting our veggie scraps.
Please bring your own waste receptacles and take them along when you go. We take ours to the Caspar Transfer Station which is open Saturday through Wednesday... the location and hours can be found online.
Our water is from a deep well with a solar pump and is cold and delicious. New are ozone and UV treatment in our storage tanks. Our irrigation pipes that have spigots and hoses at each camp are safe for drinking, cooking and cleaning. Please be sure to fully turn off the valve, timer and hose lever or we could lose hundreds of gallons in a short time.
If you see a leak or break in a line please contact us immediately. There are also water shuts levers for the camps on the west side of the Farm House if you are unable to reach us right away..
When doing dishes we request that you use the strainer to catch food particles from the dish water and toss them in your trash or compost bucket. If you have vegetable waste let us know and we can pick them up for adding to the worm bins or composting piles. We make worm "tea" fertilizer and rich soil from these offerings. No animal products or oil please... a few egg shells are okay.
We do have the usual wildlife though we haven't had problems with them. Ravens will raid your camp if food or bags are left out while you are away.
From dusk to dawn keep children and pets close. We coexist well here with the critters...and glad to have them.

We had a really excellent time watching the Perseid meteor shower this weekend. The skies were plenty dark enough and the staff was very helpful. We accidentally booked the wrong ticket type but they were able to find a spot for us anyways. We will definitely be going back (with the correct ticket) again.

We absolutely loved our time here! There are more chairs, pool toys and shade sails than the pictures show. Very perfectly set up. Definitely bring any additional shade you have.
Melissa is a great host- very responsive and positive. I was hesitant to come during a heatwave and am glad she encouraged us. It was divine. We’ll be back.

We had an amazing time! The ocean was out front yard and the host my kids named “Big Dawg” was phenomenal, very helpful and attentive to all the campers there 💛 The man doesn’t miss a beat!!!!! Rather it’s showing up for you, or keeping the camp safe and quiet after hours. He even ran a skunk off for us 😂🙏Definitely will be returning!!! 10/10

We got stuck in traffic…hours of it…and Melissa cheered us on with the promise of a sweet night swim location. This place does not disappoint. Excellent directions made for an easy arrival after dark. We had time to recuperate and recharge with a slow morning and an adjusted time for a late checkout. Next time we’ll stay a couple of days. Love the landscaping:)

We had such a wonderful experience in our RV at Hubcap Ranch. We were met upon arrival and directed to our site - our Freelander (26') fit comfortably without having to back in - complete with a beautiful deck right under a canopy of redwoods. The site was clean, had great amenities (like a propane fire pit and with propane hooked up, deck chairs, a table, Starlink wifi, etc). We camped here over the 4th of July weekend and had easy access to Mendocino's parade and the World's Largest Salmon BBQ in Fort Bragg. There is no reception but strong internet...but most of all there is peace and quiet. My anxious dogs were very thankful to not hear or see a single firework! Our niece loved saying hi to the chickens and "oodle do" (rooster). The creek was nice to walk by, though be forewarned that the mosquitos are out and so are western black-legged ticks. I found a couple of ticks crawling on me after being outside for a long stretch of time. We would definitely come back and spend more time here.

A unique experience and opportunity to be above the valley in a mountain setting. Unbelievable soothing salt pool. The sunrises are beyond moving! There is electricity, we did not use the sun kept our solar in check. Tap water and all kinds of comforterable seating. Area is a danger risk for fires, no camp fires but beautiful lighting is available at night. Short track up a narrow road, be sure to follow the clear instructions given and you will land in the perfect spot.

Everything was just FANTASTIC.
Gravel pad, full hook-ups, cord and hose extensions ready, deck with mood lights and scenery with stream... and fast WiFi, perfect.
The host was waiting for us to explain everything with the site.
My 7 year old kid loved this place.
It was so relaxing and healing place.

Had a great two-night stay at Shelter Cove RV Campground. It’s challenging to get to because of the steep grades and switchbacks, but once we were on site everything was great! The Host came out to meet us and loaned us a lighter to light the firewood we had requested. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and genuinely seemed to want to help make our stay comfortable. Bathrooms were clean, water pressure and hot water were good. Power, water and sewer worked as advertised and Wi-Fi was good, which was great as I had no cell service to speak of. Overall, a really enjoyable experience, despite the somewhat harrowing drive in (in a rented camper van!)

What a find! We loved staying at Joel and Pamela's property. They were flexible with our arrival time and shared good local tips on things to do. Our dogs were happy to run around the campsite, and our kids had fun exploring, seeing banana slugs, checking out the chickens, etc. Highly recommend and we'll definitely be coming back!

Beautiful hilltop spot with a giant salt water swimming pool. Only a few neighbors nearby and big flat area for camping. Fresh water and groovy lights at night. Short drive into town for needed supplies. Not much hiking around though.

This is a working farm with private sites. The owners have added decks to each RV/travel trailer site, along with chairs, fun little windmills, table, and gas powered outdoor fireplace. There’s a beautiful working garden with fruit trees and a greenhouse (I’m not jealous). Gorgeous variety of friendly hens and roosters. The weather was mild yet perfect for sitting in the sun and relaxing. Redwoods all round us complete with meadows. The owners have overtook care to ensure our stay was the best it could be. So relaxing!

This campsite is truly paradise. The place is absolutely beautiful — we had a wonderful evening and morning there. The showers are just like in a hotel.
