My aunt and uncle bought the property in 1947 from its first European settler, Paolo Gabrielli, who immigrated in early 1914 from northern Italy with slips of his grapevine in the lining of his coat. (The grapevine still grows over the back deck.) What can you expect? Quiet, beauty, birdsong, ocean roar, widely spaced campsites (only 5 on the 5 acres set aside for camping). Free firewood, local tips on travel and where to hike or what to visit. Or total solitude. Bring your (most non-cattle-chasing breeds) dogs if you wish (males must be neutered). Starlink internet. Walk to the beach of our wild ocean along a no-shoulder country road. We have no visible neighbors, no ambient light or sound. The air is clean and clear and the water is potable from an artesian spring on the property. No electricity at the sites and no generators allowed. (Charge your electronics at the farmhouse.) We offer homemade soup, cobbler, fresh bread, morning coffee as extras; you can order with the booking. The Victorian village of Ferndale is three miles east, as is a beautifully maintained 110-acre town wilderness with hiking trails called Russ Park. A 150-year-old cemetery slopes down a hillside & is filled with 19th century charm and history. Shops and restaurants welcome visitors. There are several bars/a wine bar/and a historic saloon that's as old boy as it was in 1890. A music venue in a restored 19th century church has amazing acoustics and attracts international talent as a top-notch venue (sessions are filmed for PBS) midway between Portland and San Francisco. So, it's a mix of town and country, village and farm, wilderness and bewilderedness. Two McNab collies, Moxie and Shama live here and may bark at first...still very friendly and social with people and other dogs.. There are several dog friendly off-leash areas such as, Noyo North Harbor Beach, Seaside Beach and dog parks in both Ft Bragg and Mendocino. Our farm is dog friendly tho we wish pets to be kept close, must be neutered and friendly to other dogs and people. Please be sure to bury or bag the waste. Speaking of waste, Meadow Farm strives to reduce waste by avoiding plastic as much as possible, recycling what we can and composting our veggie scraps. Please bring your own waste receptacles and take them along when you go. We take ours to the Caspar Transfer Station which is open Saturday through Wednesday... the location and hours can be found online. Our water is from a deep well and we periodically test it for bacteria. It is cold and delicious. Our irrigation pipes that have spigots and hoses at each camp are safe for drinking, cooking and cleaning Our solar pump moves water into storage tanks that provide all the water to the farm. It is very important that the water valves on your camp spigot is turned off (gently please) to avoid losing 2500 gallons of water in a short time. If you see a leak or break in a line please contact us immediately. There are also water shut offs for the camps on the west side of the Farm House if you are unable to reach us right away.. When doing dishes we request that you use the strainer to catch food particles from the dish water and toss them in your trash or compost bucket. If you have vegetable waste let us know and we can pick them up for adding to the worm bins or composting piles. We make worm "tea" fertilizer and rich soil from these offerings. No animal products or oil please... a few egg shells are okay. We do have the usual wildlife though we haven't had problems with them. Ravens will raid your camp if food or bags are left out while you are away. From dusk to dawn keep children and pets close. We coexist well here with the critters...and glad to have them. We also have a fridge, stove for cooking and propane wall heater inside the yurt. We've headed into our Winter season, so we are offering a discounted price to camp. However, due to the weather of the season. Outdoor kitchen and showers are closed for the season. Kitchen includes hot water sinks, refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster oven, toaster, blender, espresso machine, coffee grinder and maker, dishes, utensils, pots and pans, knives, cutting boards, etc. If there's something you need and can't find it, we'll bring it out from our kitchen in the house. ALL YOU NEED TO BRING FOR MEALS IS THE FOOD. Limited grocery shopping in our little town; it's good to shop ahead. During June- August, fires MIGHT be allowed in the communal fire pit near the kitchen. You must ask the host!, No fires at your campsite June- August, Fires during cooler months are often allowed at your campsite, but you must ask the host if current conditions allow Fire MUST be completely extinguished before you go to sleep at night. Instructions are printed and at at each site as well as at the communal firepit. Firewood available for purchase. SMOKERS, please be super careful! Outlets to CHARGE YOUR PHONE and DEVICES at the Stage and in the kitchen. Fruit trees and gardens dot the property. Feel free to pick a piece of fruit. We almost always have organic fresh eggs from the chickens for sale, The Camp Store has a variety of items such as jam, organic veggies, flowers, etc. See the list on the fridge. We're in a wooded country neighborhood where lots of folks have dogs, so you might hear some barking and see some neighbors. Very occasionally we see a dog off leash. We ask that you keep your dogs on leash at all times, as we have cats and chickens. We encourage you to enjoy the forest, but do be aware that there is poison oak. If you don't know what it looks like we can show you. Arrive anytime after 1pm. Check out is at noon, but you can often stay later if we don't have other campers arriving to your site. Speaking of waste, Meadow Farm strives to reduce waste by avoiding plastic as much as possible, recycling what we can and composting our veggie scraps. Please bring your own waste receptacles and take them along when you go. We take ours to the Caspar Transfer Station which is open Saturday through Wednesday... the location and hours can be found online. Our water is from a deep well and we periodically test it for bacteria. It is cold and delicious. Our irrigation pipes that have spigots and hoses at each camp are safe for drinking, cooking and cleaning Our solar pump moves water into storage tanks that provide all the water to the farm. It is very important that the water valves on your camp spigot is turned off (gently please) to avoid losing 2500 gallons of water in a short time. If you see a leak or break in a line please contact us immediately. There are also water shut offs for the camps on the west side of the Farm House if you are unable to reach us right away.. When doing dishes we request that you use the strainer to catch food particles from the dish water and toss them in your trash or compost bucket. If you have vegetable waste let us know and we can pick them up for adding to the worm bins or composting piles. We make worm "tea" fertilizer and rich soil from these offerings. No animal products or oil please... a few egg shells are okay. We do have the usual wildlife though we haven't had problems with them. Ravens will raid your camp if food or bags are left out while you are away. From dusk to dawn keep children and pets close. We coexist well here with the critters...and glad to have them. The Cozy Cabin is tiny and adorable - one of those rare properties that is actually exactly as described in its listing. We brought our dog and had a lovely stay. The bed is very comfortable, the cabin is well insulated, well spaced from other dwellings and campsites, the land around it is beautiful, and there are lots of stars to see on a clear night. Only noteworthy flaw was upon arrival: it was pretty tough to find our way in the dark. Arrive in the daylight if possible until they add clearer night-reflective signage and/or a detailed campsite map!

Upon arrival, Joseph very kindly escorted me to the tiny home, as the roads on property are confusing, especially at night. The unit is minimalist in a peaceful way, with thoughtful amenities and plentiful kitchen supplies. The property is beautiful and very quiet. Woke up to deer grazing right nearby, and was able to walk around and explore the forest and campsites in the morning, including the meditation hall which was open for private use. Didn’t make it down to the river, but there is clear signage pointing the way. Would stay again.

Site is magical. I was worried about space and privacy but it was manageable. Only one other camper. Little 2 and 3 are close/parallel but no one was in 2. With good setup it would be fine. The geese were so cute, we heard them but they were just far enough away to not drive our dogs crazy. This is "in town" I think so you can walk for a coffee or dinner. The town is just really small so it doesn't feel like you are in someone's back yard. And yes the bathrooms are everything everyone say. Nice clean. Nice table at each site for cooking.

When we retired 13 years ago, we discovered this lovely piece of Paradise in Miranda, located on the famous Avenue of the Giants in Humboldt County. Six years ago, we remodeled the basement and created what we call the “Garden Apt”. We have nine apple trees, a cherry tree, a fig tree, and a Concord grape arbor. It’s a 1/4-mile walk into the town of Miranda, where you will find the Miranda Market and gas & electric stations (well-stocked), as well as The Avenue Cafe (loved the Big Foot fries). Next door to the Post Office is The Palace restaurant, famous for the best ribeye steaks in Northern California! The Chimney Tree cafe is 6 miles south of Miranda on The Avenue of the Giants, along the river. There is a lovely trail that leads to what we locals refer to as “The Grove”, which is a beautiful walk in the redwoods just across the road on the Avenue. You can drive to a parking spot to start a walk on this path as well. When viewing the pictures, I’m sure you saw a picture of our dogs, aka our “kids”. Mojo is the grey one, and Karma is the blonde one. We also have a black cat called Magic who would love to have coffee with you in the mornings. Other residents you may see or hear are wild turkeys, quail, squirrels, foxes, and you will hear our neighbor’s chickens and ducks as well. You may also hear some donkeys braying in the distance.

Marteel Community Center (music and performances); Shop Smart & Chautauqua Natural Foods (full grocery store); USPS; Garberville Farmer's Market (Friday 11am-3pm, May to Nov) Several nice restaurants in such a rural area: Lost French Man wood oven pizza, Bellini Cafe, Woodrose Cafe (fresh local), Benbow Inn Restaurant (historical building by Julia Morgan) The Benbow house was originally the summer "beach house" for Hollywood Regency John Barrymore but was later added onto a lot and turned into a hotel. The bones of the Cabin are old growth redwood, which you can see on the living room ceiling. It was recently lived in and is a clean nice special space that the owners decided to share during the summer. There is an ADU (1bed/kitchen/1 bath) above the adjacent garage that a caretaker stays in from time to time, but it can be vacated for parties who wish to also rent that studio apartment. It has its own entrance. Very quiet here. Almost no road noise. No light pollution. Milkly way...The size of some of the ancient trees... You will be amazing how this bend of Eel River feels like a world away yet has all the services within 5 minutes by car. Lower Redway is a special place.

There is ample parking for your quads trailers and other toys. The driveway is rough for the first half and smooths out nicely once on the property. Be advised an SUV or similar is recommended although the owners would drive their Mercedes and other regular passenger cars up the 2.0 mile driveway to the retreat. Please get in touch about the local Covelo airport if you are a flyer concerning transportation to the property.

Have it all and relax at our forest glen located in Southern Humboldt 5 miles up private dirt road (2 wheel drive OK- but sports car height is not good ( IE not a BMW or Tesla)--higher clearance is best.) Our land is part of an old collectively owned by "back to the landers" group from the 70's. The parcel is over 500 acres, but our portion is about 40 acres. There is a large deepwater pond with a rowboat (and frogs) orchard, stream, and many hiking trails my husband created and dirt roads winding through the property. 420 friendly! Enjoy the birds in the morning and frogs on the pond at night from your well equipped tent with queen mattress and comfy comforters, sitting space, and wood counter for food prep. ( propane ok) No fires allowed at site but enjoy the large communal fire pit and terrace steps away. Our deep water pond (15 ft) is FULL and ready for warm summer swims. Wifi and electric for charging and an electric water kettle for coffee making is available at the communal space. EV charging is possible but slow off of our solar panels. Hiking trails on our 500 acre property and Lost Coast Trail at Shelter Cove Black Sands beach is 1 hour away. Ave of the Giants is 45 minutes away. We encourage 2 night stays as it is a bit of a trek to get here. Your hosts have everything you might need ( cooking wise) and can arrange for cooking equipment and utensils. Need Paella pans? Paella is our passion and we can offer a Paella Cookout customized to your dietary needs for an additional fee. We are 5 miles up a private dirt road ( 2 wheel drive is ok but caution to lower clearance vehicles) You will be deep in the relaxing forest. The 16 foot bell tent is quite large and can accommodate 2 more travelers. However they would need to provide sleeping bags and mats. Children under 10 not recommended The Chimes tent is slightly smaller 13 foot bell tent set on a platform 6 feet off the ground-- literally in the trees! We provide one citronella candle. Don't forget your headlamps. We are 35 miles (once on the pavement) to Lost Coast Trail and Shelter Cove. 20 miles to Ave of the Giants.
