What to expect:
We are in a rural neighborhood where most parcels are 1-3 acres, we have seven acres. It's quiet around here but along with the natural sounds of the desert like yipping coyotes, and woodpeckers pecking, you may hear a horse, dog, or chicken. While we are on the outskirts of Tucson, we are not completely remote.
We have carved our sites out of the natural layout of the desert. There are many kinds of cactus in our area in addition to the magnificent Saguaro, and uneven areas when walking. We keep it as natural as possible.
We have a small "Mercantile" on property. This is our office, but we also have items you may have forgotten, and souvenirs made by local artists. Also available is firewood, and ice is for sale for your convenience. We have a small Laundry Shack (two washers, two dryers) 2.00 wash/2.00 dry. You'll need cash for these things, we do not take any other form of payment at this time.

The main camping area is a flat area on the mountainside East of Summerhaven, with a steep approach (be prepared!). The view from the area is great, and the area has some pines, as do the neighboring properties. Turkey cross the property seasonally, as well as the occasional deer. This is a leave no trace site.
The site is current undergoing enchancements, so there will be evidence of demolished boulders, landscaping, and fencing. The site is safe to traverse, but care should be taken to avoid rock and uneven terrain, fence posts, and so on. Usage of the site is at your own risk.
Toilet and waste:
A bucket toilet is provided, with composting bags. Toilet waste, as well as other waste, must be taken with you, when you leave; there is no trash service. There are sometimes dumpsters in town that can be used to dispose of waste.
The bucket toilet consists of a bucket, bucket seat, funnel, and hose. The consumables are composting toilet bags, wood shavings/chips, and toilet paper. You do not need to use the funnel and hose, but may if you wish. At a minimum, place the bag into the bucket, with the bag edge over the edge of the bucket, and place the bucket seat onto the bucket. The bucket seat should firmly fit onto the bucket, and retain the bag.
When your stay is complete, please make sure the seat and bucket are clean, as well as the funnel and hose, if you used them. Please make sure all supplies are returned to the Toilet Supplies container.
Directions:
The address is 12672 N Ray Ave.
Make your way to the intersection of N Sabino Canyon Parkway and Retreat Rd. in Summerhaven, AZ. Head east up the steep Retreat Rd., and make the right onto Tucson Ave., followed by a quick left onto what Google says is Ray Ave. Make an immediate right onto N. Ray Ave, and follow the dirt road until a steep driveway on the left appears. This driveway (and the other entrance 100 ft further on) provide access to the land. If trying to park off the driveway, enter the first driveway entrance to drive forward onto the approach and park, or enter the second driveway and then back onto the approach and park. Once parked (See Parking for additional instructions), access the land from the driveway according to the images.
Parking:
WARNING: Do not park on the driveway itself. There is a half-moon driveway that provides a way to either drive forward or backward onto the approach. Park on the (1) dirt approach to the land, just off the steep driveway, or (2) on the half moon parking spot at the top of the driveway, or (3) at the bottom on Ray Ave, out of the way. If any vehicles are blocking vehicular access to the dirt approach to the land, please contact me.
Recreation:
The shops of Summerhaven are close. Marshall Gulch is a popular recreation area on the Arizona Trail, South of Summerhaven. There is also a lot of opportunity to hike and rock climb on the area.
The area is not very suitable for RVs; it is not possible to bring an RV onto the property.

This is a safe place to get off the road for a bit, or to take a break from the busy/noisy city life, to relax and unwind in nature! Dogs are welcome, but please pick up after your pet!

The main camping area is a flat area on the mountainside East of Summerhaven, with a steep approach (be prepared!). The view from the area is great, and the area has some pines, as do the neighboring properties. Turkey cross the property seasonally, as well as the occasional deer. This is a leave no trace site.
The site is current undergoing enchancements, so there will be evidence of demolished boulders, landscaping, and fencing. The site is safe to traverse, but care should be taken to avoid rock and uneven terrain, fence posts, and so on. Usage of the site is at your own risk.
Toilet and waste:
A bucket toilet is provided, with composting bags. Toilet waste, as well as other waste, must be taken with you, when you leave; there is no trash service. There are sometimes dumpsters in town that can be used to dispose of waste.
The bucket toilet consists of a bucket, bucket seat, funnel, and hose. The consumables are composting toilet bags, wood shavings/chips, and toilet paper. You do not need to use the funnel and hose, but may if you wish. At a minimum, place the bag into the bucket, with the bag edge over the edge of the bucket, and place the bucket seat onto the bucket. The bucket seat should firmly fit onto the bucket, and retain the bag.
When your stay is complete, please make sure the seat and bucket are clean, as well as the funnel and hose, if you used them. Please make sure all supplies are returned to the Toilet Supplies container.
Directions:
The address is 12672 N Ray Ave.
Make your way to the intersection of N Sabino Canyon Parkway and Retreat Rd. in Summerhaven, AZ. Head east up the steep Retreat Rd., and make the right onto Tucson Ave., followed by a quick left onto what Google says is Ray Ave. Make an immediate right onto N. Ray Ave, and follow the dirt road until a steep driveway on the left appears. This driveway (and the other entrance 100 ft further on) provide access to the land. If trying to park off the driveway, enter the first driveway entrance to drive forward onto the approach and park, or enter the second driveway and then back onto the approach and park. Once parked (See Parking for additional instructions), access the land from the driveway according to the images.
Parking:
WARNING: Do not park on the driveway itself. There is a half-moon driveway that provides a way to either drive forward or backward onto the approach. Park on the (1) dirt approach to the land, just off the steep driveway, or (2) on the half moon parking spot at the top of the driveway, or (3) at the bottom on Ray Ave, out of the way. If any vehicles are blocking vehicular access to the dirt approach to the land, please contact me.
Recreation:
The shops of Summerhaven are close. Marshall Gulch is a popular recreation area on the Arizona Trail, South of Summerhaven. There is also a lot of opportunity to hike and rock climb on the area.
The area is not very suitable for RVs; it is not possible to bring an RV onto the property.

Me and my boyfriend had an amazing time visiting Mesquite Haven. We’re not even 2 hours away so we decided to give it a go and it wasn’t a disappointment. We stayed in the Tombstone Rose, it was cozy, spacious, clean & already had a heater inside, which they’ll show you how to use. They also will provide a Jackery for charging & to plug in the lights that are in there. Jennifer a Dave are very nice, chill & welcoming if you need anything all you gotta do is ask and they’ll come see what’s up. Right when you arrive Jennifer will be outside to show you everything, where to park, the restroom area, where to go look and explore literally everything. Then like I said earlier they are very nice people you can talk to them, it was nice getting to know them. Lastly they are pet friendly. Our dog did cause a little problem but we just contacted them right away and they came over to see what the situation was, they didn’t make us feel bad or anything because accidents do happen. Just be straight up with them and they will be with you too. So yeah I highly recommend coming here for a visit. Can’t wait to come again.

Camp Saguaro is very conveniently located near Saguaro National park. It's easy to find and access. We stayed in the Javelina Hollow site for two nights in our Sprinter campervan. You may hear other campers nearby, but this site has plenty of privacy with all of the trees/shrubs. The restrooms were very clean and well stocked. The hot showers were wonderful! Overall, a nice, clean, cute, and well maintain property! I would definitely stay here again.

We loved our stay here. The location is near the West entrance of Saguaro National Park. Their bathrooms are clean, the free showers have hot water and there’s even a free charging station for your electronics. There’s also laundry access (for a nominal fee). The hosts are very friendly and helpful. I will come and stay here again when we’re in the area.

Nice campsite. The bathrooms and showers look very rustic in the photos, but they are very clean and the water is super hot, which is awesome. There is a dishwashing station with hot water as well. This campground is in a residential area, so you can hear the neighbors chickens and there are dogs barking during the day (it's very quiet at night). 3 minute drive to Saguaro NP. Overall, very nice, we enjoyed our stay.

This is the rare find that makes Hipcamp worth it. Attention to detail, everything works, it's fun, it's a great experience and a great place to camp. It's wild - you'll hear coyotes all night long (and they're closer than you think!) - and the desert is all around you. I can't recommend this team and property high enough.

Michelle and her assistant were very kind and readily available. Michelle has done a really good job at maintaining a clean, cool vibe about the campground. It's very well thought out and employs some really cool metal in their communal restrooms/showers/sink. Although we didn't sleep in the "magic mushroom", since we had our own tent, it was a really fun structure that you could sleep in. Great place, great vibe. Highly recommend this campground.

We had such a good experience here! Everything was so well organized, and the location looks so pretty. It was very easy to find our campsite, even at night. The facilities were in a very clean state, and the shower was very warm. At night, you can hear coyotes.
The biggest highlight, however, is the host! She was so kind to us; she gave us so many recommendations for activities around the area. We ended up going on a hike she recommended to us, and it was so nice!

Wonderful hosts and beautiful grounds. There is a sense of community here and we felt like we were camping with family. The hosts were friendly and accommodating. The bathrooms and amenities were a real treat and well maintained. You can tell the hosts truly love this place with all the attention to detail - there is subtle humor, tiny surprises, and quirky artistic touches all around with the signage, santa hats on saguaros, and the gorgeous mercantile filled with antique furniture displays and locally handmade gifts. If you are lucky, you may even meet Leslie and Mark while there, who come in seasonally to man the mercantile and help to maintain the grounds. We will definitely be back here for more Christmas camping and random adventures.

1000% will be back! The hosts were kind, welcoming, and hospitable. The showers and toilets were perfect and needed with a young child. It was so nice to have other kids and families around. The grounds were quiet but kids were warmly welcomed engaged by the hosts. Take a moment to meet Kim, Michelle, Leslie and Mark - absolutely lovely humans!

Michelle's Camp Suguaro was one of the best Hipcamps we've been to, and we've traveled all over the country. The Curious Quail site was perfect for our 22' travel trailer. I wouldn't try to stay here, however, if you have something bigger than that. The site had a very pretty, shaded sitting area with a table, chairs and fire pit. Top notch, clean amenities included bathrooms, showers and a dish cleaning sink. Yard games and laundry were also available, and the Mercantile was nice with both utilitarian and artsy items. The entire place was well organized and well maintained. It was pretty with lots of thoughtful touches making it inviting and cozy.
The description is accurate in saying you will hear some neighborhood sounds. Most, such as chickens, were not bothersome. The dog across the street that barked incessantly did become annoying.
The best part of Camp Suaro though, was the hospitality. Everyone was warm, personable, and helpful. We received great ideas for things to do and pointers to make our time in Tucson very enjoyable. We felt safe and welcome at all times. If we are ever back in Tucson, we wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else. Thank you Michelle, Kim, and all of you kind camp hosts!

The location of Camp Saguaro is fantastic - minutes from Saguaro National Park and miles of hiking trails, while only 30 minutes from historic Tucson. The campground is lovely and well cared for by Kim, Michelle, and the other hosts. They were also a great resource for things to experience in the area. New and very clean showers, bathrooms, and a shared dishwashing area. Evening cayote serenades were a high point for us! The Flying Jewels campsite was spacious with natural vegetation barriers between us and neighboring sites—plenty of room for two tents, our SUV, a campfire area, and hummingbirds visiting the feeder. Our only negative experience - which the hosts really can't control - was some noise from the adjacent properties (dogs barking, vehicles, and music). Likely not as noticeable to folks in an RV. Overall, a great place to call home for a few days while exploring the Saguaro National Park area.
