Animals and stars. Amazing.
Front row seat to beautiful dark skies, lots of enthusiastic and friendly dogs, at least one friendly cat and the horses. Friendly is the word.

Ron was a great host and very helpful! There were many dogs roaming around, but they were very friendly and only wanted scratches. It was a good location but coyotes and dogs were very loud through the night, so I didn't get as much sleep as I'd have liked.

Definitely off the beaten path. This is on an operating ranch down several miles of dirt road. Baby calves were running around as well as a groupnof dogs. The dogs showed up every time we ate, begging for food (they were obviously well fed). The outhouse has plumbing. I wish the site was more private. We were withing 30 feet of another occupied site. And the fireplace was shared, we got lucky the other campers weren't weird about that. The site is in full sun so summer camping would be rough.

I don’t like to leave negative reviews so I will just mention a few things I wish I would have known.
1) Not really pet friendly. Upon arrival I was told that one of the ranch dogs was not friendly with other dogs & that I would need to keep my dog leashed & separate from their dogs. This would not have been a problem except the other dogs roam the entire property- as they should- and more than one snapped or barked at my leashed dog. Luckily my dog is very well behaved & friendly so she didn’t snap back. I don’t blame the dogs for not wanting another dog on their property but this listing should not be described as pet friendly. I was constantly having to shoo the other dogs away & my dog was on alert the whole time & I had to spend the night in the car for her safety.
2) I paid for firewood but was told that because of the wind & dry conditions I wasn’t allowed to build a campfire. I don’t blame the host for the weather conditions but I was not refunded the money I paid for the wood. Some kind of warning about campfires being dependent on weather or even more to the point given the climate in the area- campfires unlikely- would have been useful. This was my daughter’s first camping trip & not being able to have s’mores was a big disappointment for her.
3) I had to clear my own camping area of dog poop, which was already there when we arrived, in order to set up.
We didn’t receive the same hospitality others describe on here. Ended up leaving early.

Great, quiet spot and great host. We stopped through for only one night, but arrived too late to enjoy a campfire. Beautiful starry sky! We will definitely keep in mind if we ever pass through the area again and hope to stay longer.

My daughter and I tent camped but the land is a working ranch. It has cattle and horses. The ranch provides horseback rides to the public. The pack of ranch dogs were fun but at-large so if you have a dog just know that. Overall we enjoyed it.

We had a great stay at Double R Ranch! We only spent one night which was too short. Very remote, quiet, great star gazing! Ron was so very helpful and a wonderful host. We would absolutely stay here again!

RV Camping with Amazing Views
Our host had cancelled our first night due to unexpected delay in another camper moving. We arrived on our second scheduled day and were greeted wonderfully by the host/site caretaker. The road in was long, and the last half was very rough. You are next to the ranch and pastureland where there are horses and you can purchase a guided ride through the desert. No place to hike, except on the horse trail, so we didn't venture too far. If you get off the road and are walking between it and the fence, be careful if a neighbor drives by, as they will scold you for going on private property.
If you wanted to be in a remote, secluded spot, and planned on horseback riding, you will love this site. It didn't work well for our group and what we were interested in.

Tent camping was undeveloped but still had flush toilet. Host Ron was outstanding. He accommodated a last minute schedule change and was unbelievably friendly and helpful with the horseback riding. We really enjoyed our stay.

RV Camping with Amazing Views
It was absolutely the best three day weekend experience we've had! When I was looking for a place to camp all the parks were full and I came across Ron's site- the reviews said to watch out for the drive in and all the dogs but THAT WAS THE BEST PART! driving down the long dirt road into the middle of nowhere was so cool and we felt really off the grid- then when we arrived my 12 year old daughter spent three solid days with all the horses and dogs and we saw two baby calf's being born that was so sweet and the sunsets over the mountains were beautiful and you can hear the wildness of it all at night. As we toured around the area of Cochise county we saw so many KOA's and other boring RV campsites lined up in rows parked on asphalt.......and as we saw this we were saying that we were so so grateful we had found Ron's place with the furry dogs, and the shedding horses and the baby cows....We can hardly wait to go back, next time we are going to stay in one of the little cabins. Thank you for the best nights sleep- my daughter can't stop talking about it. AND- Ron thank you for letting my daughter really dig in and help and be a part of what you do and not just sit on the sidelines- you letting her help push the cows into the coral is one of the things she cannot stop talking about. We'll be back!!

This was our first RV trip and many thanks to Neil who helped us figure things out! Ron's campground is on a working farm so it was great to see horses, cows, etc. There were 9 dogs running around who were very friendly and got along well with our 3. The area is a little rough around the edges and you should know that the few miles leading up to grounds are dirt and, as you approach, hilly. It was great to be able to take a horseback riding trip with Billy, the landscape was beautiful. The only aspect folks should be aware of is that we did not have WiFi nor cellular functioning - it was tough just to make a phone call.

Our stay was cancelled by the host at 11:17 the day of our arrival, we were already on our way to get there. We received the cancellation by email. Hopefully I read my emails. A phone call would have been more appropriate. I’m still waiting for the reimbursement.

I loved tent camping at this location. While it was a long drive on dirt roads, it delivered such a beautiful view and was super quiet. Coming from the city, these were some of the best stars I’ve ever seen. My kids loved having the dogs visit them at our campsite (super friendly). I only wish we could have stayed longer.

This is a really great place to stay! The ranch is easy enough to locate, just drive slowly on the road and it's fine. There are a half dozen or so of dogs on the property that are all friendly and will hang out with you. And if you're staying, definitely ask Ron about going on a ride- it's beautiful land and a lot of fun! Just arrange it with him when you arrive, that's the easiest way to set up a ride.

Ron and his crew were really awesome. We're full time for a year in our RV with 2 boys ages 6 and 8. While we were there we had the full Western experience - a mesquite fire, a family trail ride, and the sound of coyotes at night. Cell service is almost non-existent, so although I had to move some things around for my work, it was well worth the effort for the experience we had. Very professional staff for the ride and Ron communicated with ease and punctuality. Good times for sure.

This was our second time staying at the ranch, this time for two nights with enough time to enjoy the scenery. This is one of the best hipcamps we've stayed at - quiet and secluded, plenty of quality firewood at a great price and an incredibly starry sky. Highly recommended.

Ron's land is a beautiful spot to camp, nestled in the mountains with amazing views all around. Tent camping there was quiet and undisturbed for my small group. Ron was there to greet us and very hospitable, couldn't ask for more.

Southern Arizona Guest Ranch is an equestrian’s choice for a picturesque, relaxed Hipcamp.
During our stay, my husband and I pitched a tent between the fire-ring, picnic table, and the clean outhouse. The camping plot was well-maintained and easily accessed from the parking area. The “outhouse” was more akin to a modern bathroom with running water, a flushing toilet, and a sink.
The grounds were open with gorgeous, dramatic views of the rugged landscape and mountain range. From the campsite, you could see for miles and miles. My husband and I were the only tent campers on the property,
and we felt perfectly cozy as we enjoyed our designated site. Aside from admiring the beautiful, natural scenery, my husband and I also enjoyed meeting some very friendly horses and cowboys on the property. Our kind host, Ron, set up a scenic, enjoyable horse ride for us. If you make it here, I would certainly recommend booking a ride.
Superb scenery and local history made for a very fun afternoon. Thanks to cowboy Gary for a great tour! A quiet location with wide, open space, Southern Arizona Guest Ranch is a fantastic place to spend some

As the name suggests, AMAZING views. The road leading to the location becomes unpaved after a bit so I do warn those that don’t have awd that it gets a liiiiitle “backroad” feeling.
Ron was attentive and helped ensure we made it to our spot.
