We recently spent a weekend at Gittn' Pickled Appalachian Trail and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience! This camping spot offers all the essentials, including the much-appreciated luxury of hot water for showers.
The stream across the road is not only beautiful but also provides a serene and relaxing atmosphere that enhances the natural surroundings. The site’s close proximity to several trails was perfect for our hiking plans.
What made our stay exceptionally welcoming was the hospitality shown by Doug, our host. As a group of Latinos, we felt particularly invited and accommodated in this space. Doug's efforts to ensure we felt at home and his willingness to cater to our needs were remarkable and greatly appreciated.
We are eager to return and highly recommend Gittn' Pickled Appalachian Trail to anyone looking for a welcoming camping site that combines comfort with adventure. It’s an ideal spot for groups seeking a friendly and inclusive environment near the Appalachian Trail.

My friends and I returned to this spot multiple times because it's awesome. A cabin in nowhere with bunks and amenities can't be beat. Deer were on the porch when I pulled up and you can watch the creek dribble by. 11/10 would go again.
Well kept hunting camp style cabin. Electric, heat and ac, shower, washer/dryer, space to play, App. Trail nearby, Wi-Fi etc., etc. Rustic, but with many amenities.

Me and my girls have been camping for over 14 years and this was one most relaxing trip we ever had Doug has the cabin set up nice big back covered deck and a nice front covered porch the stream in front of cabin was fun to play in for my did also. He is a great host and it is a very rustic and really makes you feel at home kinda place. We will be going back soon. Thanks Doug.

Such a wonderful stay. It was quiet and relaxing, definitely save the directions, as you will not have signal on some parts of the drive, but connecting to the Wi-Fi does allow you to call and text. We were even able to stream a little movie for the kids. Doug met us there and showed us around, but everything was pretty easy to use, and pretty well clean For being out in the woods. This place was so nice. It really was a great way to disconnect. Being so close to the AT is a huge plus too. We also had an opportunity to meet a couple of the locals, everyone was so kind! This is definitely a spot we would like to come back to!
I don’t think that there is anything in particular that I could critique or criticize about this place, it was just a wonderful stay!

This is a dreamy little spot in a gorgeous part of Virginia. Doug’s land is beautifully maintained with a lovely cabin and the sweetest crick running by. It’s very relaxing and in the heart of some of the best hiking the area has to offer. We just wanted to relax and took a short hike from the cabin up to the AT and looped back, no driving just enjoying. I would come back here in a heartbeat. Super dog friendly location.

Great location…. We were able to hike to Appalachian trail! We intended to camp
at this location which worked out perfect because we had the beautiful woods, creek and nature with the added amenities of washer/dryer, shower, fridge etc. I would say that the cabin is very rustic and not for the person who wants a dust/dirt free experience. I loved the adventure… and I bet this place would be heaven to a weary Appalachian trail hiker…

This place was great! Exactly as advertised and better. I cannot say enough good things. I really hope to come back and visit again for longer. What a great find.
We stayed for a quick overnight trip on our way to OH. Doug was amazing and helpful while giving us our privacy🥰 the creek was our magic! If you are looking for a private slice of paradise this is the place for you!!!!!
The cabin is cute and liked having a shower water can definitely get hot and plenty of hiking trails just make sure you look through all of the binder he leaves on table... Doug met us there and is very friendly. If you want quite and hiking great place if you want fishing i wouldnt recommended you have to drive min half hour out and even then its hard to find a place everything is private.

Great place to land off the Appalachian Trail for refreshing and resting with amazing nature sounds all around. Took a zero day to dry out from the recent rains.
Among features offered were a working washer and dryer, a single gas stove (hotplate), telephone and wifi, a refrigerator, microwave and power outlets. The shower, while outside, was private and quite adequate. The firepit was large, and there was a large pile of firewood. All four mattresses were clean and appeared to be new.
Several other features made it a somewhat less pleasant. First, the fridge was very old and hadn’t been cleaned and defrosted recently. It was filled with condiments that may have been there for a very long time. Second, the dishes and silverware were very old and mismatched and were equally split between the small indoor counter and a small outdoor washing counter. The chairs and lamp on the front porch looked like they had been there for a very long time. There was a hot water switch (with no sign of how to operate it ) on a tank that turned on the water in the shower. Hot water for hand or dishwashing came from the shower which was behind the wall across from the washer and dryer. The worst thing was a plastic moldering privy. While adequate toilet paper was provided the owners directions encouraged the guest to use nearby woods for urinating. This owner could invest a little bit in a more user friendly hot water and kitchen setup. A good cleaning might give the cabin a nicer smell when walking in. Perhaps add a moldering privy with a second seat for non-solid waste. If items these are addressed, $90 a night would be more appropriate

We were greeted upon arrival and very much appreciated that. First time staying at a Hipcamp location. Had such a wonderful time and the cabin + surroundings were perfect for 1 adult and 3 youth age kids. Lots of areas to explore, toss the frisbee/football, bike, hike, grill out - heat up late night ramen (lol). Definitely making a trip trip back with friends to do more hikes.

So peaceful at Doug’s cabin. Two large covered decks. Very little traffic passes through. There is a trout creek in front of the cabin. Doug will even take you to the store if you’re a thru hiker. Will definitely stay again.
Repeat stay. This cabin has everything I need for hiking the Appalachian Trail. Great location, warm bed, hot shower and Doug will take care of all needs. He will shuttle ($1 a mile) if needed. Finished my section hike and some

This was our second time here...I didn't think it could get better, but it did!!! Doug has upgraded his heating system and installed air conditioning...we didn't need AC in February but it sure will be lovely during the sweltering southern summer days! We got in some great hiking and then had this great place to relax all evening...we will keep returning here because we really love it!!
Doug's place is great. Lot's of amenities to make roughing it easy. Heat, hot shower, washer/dryer, fire ring with plenty of wood (donation requested), excellent trees for a hammock next to the fire. Plus things like electric kettle, toaster oven, microwave, butane stove...
No visible neighbors and a very quiet road. I think I saw three cars all weekend. Usually, all you hear is the sound of the creek. Very quiet.
And the wifi is great if you want to check in with the rest of the world. No cell service.
I booked last minute and Doug was super nice about it. I didn’t have camping stuff with me. But I ended up washing his large towels and sleeping on them on the bed. Yes he has a washer and dryer! The heat inside was nice and cozy. I had surgery on one hand so I didn’t make a fire outside. The stream is beautiful and the bridge is so cool. I would go again! Suggest using maps dot me app and download Virginia and Roanoke area. It will use your no cell as a gps.
Great place. We knew what to expect and used it as a home base for hiking. Comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Doug, the host was always available and had a ton of information on how to operate the cabin to exact directions to place and hiking in the region. I would stay again! Thanks.

Gittn' Pickled Appalachian Trail
My family and I loved the cabin. Our two kids and dog enjoyed exploring the bridge and area around the cabin. It was the perfect place to rest after day hiking the AT, especially in winter with the lower temperatures at night. We were not cold at all. A newly installed heating system meant we were toasty all night. We will definitely be back again.
