New River Gorge National Park

If there's one word to describe the New River Gorge, it would be...gorgeous. (sorry) With 53 miles of river, 63,000 acres, and 1,400 climbing routes, adventure awaits.

A huge network of hiking trails run along the gorge. For the best views, try the 3.2-mile Grandview Rim Trail. It's especially beautiful during the fall color season. Take the boardwalk from the Sandstone Visitor Center to see the spectacular 1500-foot waterfall. Looking for the iconic New River Gorge Bridge? Head for the easy, kid-friendly Canyon Rim Boardwalk. For a unique view, hike down the steep Bridge Trail.

Indulge your inner Spiderman at one of the technical climbs on the hard sandstone cliffs. From trad climbs to top ropes, there's something for every skill level.

Prefer to get your thrills closer to the ground? A whitewater rafting trip takes you through the canyon at heart-pounding speeds. During the spring and fall, pack your fishing rod to catch bass, walleye, and more.

Along the river, a series of seven primitive campgrounds immerse you in the wilderness. If you're craving something more developed, head to Babcock State Park or the many private campgrounds near the bridge.
