River Mountain Outdoors

5 sites · Lodging, Tents83 acres · Bloomsburg, PA
The history of the Pump House began in 1878, when three ambitious men hatched a plan for the world's first long-distance underground oil pipeline which would transport oil from well to refinery more quickly and efficiently than the horse-drawn wagons of the time. Pumping stations were needed every fifty miles along this long route to keep pressure on the pipeline so that the oil could reach its destination. Pump House Bed and Breakfast is one of the only properties in the country in which the both the original homes of the foremen and the large brick buildings remain. Doug, owner, has spent more than 20 years lovingly restoring these foreman houses as well as the large industrial brick buildings. The Brick Barn Hall once housed steam pumps to pressurize the pipe and keep the oil moving, and the Catawissa Cabin behind it served as the telegraph office. The Studio Hall contained boilers that produced the steam to power the pumps, while the adjoining Studio Cabin functioned as a blacksmith's workspace. Today, the buildings function as reception spaces for weddings and other special events, and house private suites as well as an art studio where Doug pursues his work and teaches drawing, ceramics, and stained glass classes. The Season House, one of the two foreman homes, features additional guest accommodations while Doug resides in the other foreman house. Visit and experience a piece of PA history! Uncle Willie's

6 sites · RVs, Tents20 acres · Stroudsburg, PA
Once known as the Middaugh Farm , this property produced Corn, Buckwheat, Pigs, Chickens, and White Clay.  Forced to sell off a northern 70 acre Tract, which is now off the Tax Roles and held by the DOI,  and other non contiguous properties to help maintain the remaining 268 acres, The streams host turtles, crayfish and minnoes.  Deer , Rabbits, Squirrels, Foxes, Chipmunks, Coyotes (not the immigration kind, ) and the occasional Black Bear occupy the area. Named after my Father, who passed October 09 2017.  It is my goal to keep the property undeveloped, and ON the tax rolls through funding via access to members who enjoy the Dwindling Great Outdoors.  I hope to keep this in the family for a few more generations, while sharing the beauty and abundance of nature with others who have little opportunity to experience what I have, growing up in Rural America.

My farm is just beautiful. I have owned it for 46 years and am proud as can be of its beauty and serenity. Welcome to our perfect outdoor haven, a beautiful 150 acre farm, providing an extraordinary escape from the hustle and bustle of our modern world. Two of our exclusive campsites are located on the banks of the Little Schuylkill River, with the world-renowned Hawk Mountain Sanctuary boarding on the other side of the river. The third site, has an open view of Hawk Mountain and the farm, to say nothing of the full sky view.. Our private, exclusive campsites, easily encompassing about 5 acres at each site and surrounded by the 150 acre farm, are designed to take advantage of the natural surroundings. Here you will find yourself off grid and alone with nature. Imagine yourself pitching your tent along the river or on the hill top, viewing countless birds of prey and all types of wildlife with no other folks around, except for your people. The location could not be better or more private. Our family for years have camped and played at these site, enjoying the river and night sounds. We are a working Christmas Tree farm as well. Truly private camping, not a commercial camp ground. Very few camping sites exist where you can just have your own space, but you may have it here. My family are stewards to this wonderful farm, and are thrilled to share it with you. We want you to chill and to find tranquility, to respect our sites and make memories that are treasured. Details: We will consider 1 night stays for weekdays, please contact for availability and pricing. We will also consider more than 8 campers. Please inquire! Camp Blackbird

2 sites · RVs, Tents28 acres · Lehighton, PA
Camp Blackbird is a 28 acre property that runs along Beltzville State Park in Carbon County, PA. So besides the camp, there is an additional 3,002-acres of state park to explore. There are a total of 2 sites. The land was vacant for decades and unfortunately used to dump household garbage during that time. We cleaned up the land, built a home and bat habitat. We, Sarah and Stein, always disliked renting a camp site somewhere and then ending up on top of people. So it was our goal to make space on our land for campers like us that want to be surrounded by nature, not other camp sites. A portion of the proceeds from your stay will be donated to bat habitat conservation and bat sanctuaries around the world. We are grateful for the hundreds of campers that have stayed with us. Thank you to all of you that have left a clean site and not made unnecessary noise that would disturb the countless species that share the forest with us. Also, Thank You for patronizing local businesses while you are here. We'll give you a map so you can see where to take a short walk to get to the lake. There are miles of hiking trails a few minutes walk from your campsite. Beltzville Lake is a great place for paddling. The boat launch is just a few minutes drive from Camp. In addition to the beautiful immediate surroundings, we are centrally located near many exciting destinations. Year round activities at Blue Mountain Resort, adventure on The Appalachian Trail, fine dining, biking the rail trail and whitewater rafting in Jim Thorpe, all within a 25 minute drive. The property is not suitable for parties or events. The area is a QUIET ZONE. Ideal for people looking to unplug from it all and become one with nature. It is teaming with wildlife and is ideal for birding. The hosts mission is to disturb wildlife and its habitats as little as possible. VERY IMPORTANT - NO PARTIES or unregistered guests on the property. There are other campgrounds in the area that are great for people who want to party. We welcome pets. Please add your photos! Especially of your dog camping! Check out the 300+ photos past campers have added. So many of them are dogs camping it up. We, the hosts, live on the property about 700 ft from the campsite. We try to have minimal interactions with the guests to ensure privacy and personal space but we're always reachable.

The best camping near Hickory Run State Park guide

Overview

About

Less than a 2-hour drive from Philadelphia, Hickory Run State Park is a popular recreation area throughout the year. Summer activities include disc golf, biking, and exploring the boulder-covered Boulder Field (a National Natural Landmark), while cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular in winter. The park is also great for hiking with 40 miles of trails, including the popular Hawk Falls Trail, which leads to a 25-foot waterfall, and the Shades of Death Trail, which gives hikers access to a mic of waterfalls and dams. Hickory Run Park Campground features a variety of tent and RV sites, some with full hookups, plus picnic tables, fire rings, and flush toilets.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve a spot at Hickory Run State Park by calling Pennsylvania State Parks or via their website.
  2. Reservations for campsites, cabins, and cottages open 11 months in advance and remain open until noon on the date of arrival.
  3. Unreserved sites are made available on a first-come, first-served basis and are released at noon when advance reservations close. Arrive in the early afternoon to increase your chances of snagging a spot.
  4. The park has two group cabin camping areas and 13 group tenting sites. These are usually used by scouts and other groups, and can be reserved directly through the park office.

When to go

Hickory Run State Park is open throughout the year, but most visitors come from spring through early fall. During this period, parking lots for day-use visitors often fill up early, even on weekdays, so it’s wise to arrive as early as you can. Camping is available from the second Friday in April until the middle of December. The dump station and other facilities that use water close for the year on the third Sunday in October.

Know before you go

  • You can pick up food, firewood, ice, and basic supplies at the on-site camp store or by driving to the town of Albrightsville, a 10-minute drive away.
  • Alcohol is prohibited at Hickory Run and at all other Pennsylvania state parks.
  • Hickory Run is in bear country, so campers must keep all food, toiletries, and cooking supplies in bear-safe areas. Garbage should be thrown in designated bear-proof dumpsters.
