Just outside the property, the Swan River flows past, a great place to cool off on hot days, sometimes there are fish there too. Swansea is 16km away and Bicheno is 26km away. Both towns have IGA supermarkets, bottle shops and restaurants, and plenty of history. Freycinet National Park is 40 minutes, and makes for a great day trip, with beautiful walks, fantastic scenery, and of course iconic Wine Glass Bay.

If you want to see the coast shown in these photos, both the Tasman Island Cruise and Wild Ocean Tasmania offer excellent trips Bookings are for two adults; children under 16 are free. It may be possible for larger groups to occupy one site - please enquire before booking. As the site is teeming with wildlife including the barred bandicoot, we don't allow dogs. There are no facilities on the block apart from a long drop dunny (byo paper) and a small supply of non-potable water so you will need to be self-sufficient though there are good meals at the nearby Lufra Hotel and excellent coffee just up the road at the legendary Cubed Coffee van. The property is 380m from the junction of the Lyell Highway and the Gordon River Road. It has 450m absolute river frontage on the River Derwent (no riparian reserve). The river here is freshwater, potable and a renowned trout water, (licence required). Three kilometres from the village of Gretna. 4WD Preferred. 2WD need to assess river access. Campers need all own amenities and leave no trace. Dog friendly but please see rules, we have livestock and so dogs need to be well controlled at all times. Campfires permitted when restrictions aren't in place (see rules around campfires). Due to hydro generation activity, the river may slowly rise or fall up to 1m (often without rain) so please be careful around the water.

At Hill Top Farm Meander we run beef cattle and five working draught horses. Our property boasts commanding views of Huntsman lake , the Great Western Tiers and Meander Valley. The surrounding mountains create a dramatic backdrop for Hill Top Farm. Our farm displays an abundance of natural beauty, with crystal clear springs and a diversity of mature and rare forest timbers. There are numerous well known walks to do nearby, Meander Falls, Mother Cummings Peak and Smoko Falls to name a few. Huntsman Lake is a great favourite of fly fishermen and kayakers alike, there is also a very pleasant picnic grounds there, swimming hole and boat ramp. The village of Meander is 4 kms away offering a wonderful cafe , where the staff are friendly and the hamburgers , coffee and cakes are fantastic. As we have no facilities on our farm yet, so we ask that all campers must be fully self contained, with their own toilet , water and power.

We loved our visit to Jonathan’s Hipcamp. He was a fabulous host visiting daily offering to take kids on tractor, ATV rides, bringing carrots to feed the horse, offering tourist tips. Kids loved their time in the outside bath, building bike jumps, exploring the property. We loved the quiet location and would love to return some time. We share the camp with 2 families and it was a lovely atmosphere.

Great location to use as a base to explore Hobart and the area. You are literally on a small paddock alongside a fairly busy road with mostly grass and well maintained. The road traffic did ease off after 9pm but by 6.30am the trucks are back up and down the road. It’s a well used road. Fully fenced area so both kids and dogs are safe. Large trampoline for the kids and fire pits. Rob is a super host and very welcoming. Thanks for having us.

We absolutely loved our stay here. So beautifully done, well signposted and the scenery and serenity is amazing. Each site has their own fire pit to use. The goats were a highlight for our two boys, feeding them carrots and apples! Fishing right infront of our caravan was brilliant, the fairy garden was a lovely touch, the mountain bike trail was loved by our 6yo and the communal area was brilliant. 100/10. Definitely recommend!

We camped up on the highest campspot on the property. It is on a hill but we had no trouble with our 18ft van. Loved the outdoor bath. Johnothan came up and had a yarn. Great fellow and left us to enjoy. Rode our bikes to the Derby trails and came back to a lovley quiet camp at night.

I loved the well crafted shelters, each with beautiful features, made from the timber grown on-site and found materials. The bush setting was peaceful and restoring, and the short amble down to the beach was a delight. The plumbing seemed like a sculpture, and worked well, solar hot and fresh cold water. Danny welcomed us warmly and we felt at home and comfortable.

This is one of the best family friendly and well thought out camp grounds we've ever been to on hipcamp. We chose campsite 2 and it was very nice to be able to know our toddler could safely play at the playground/sandpit while we set up and cooked. We had an issue with out bbq on the first day and Aaron came out and helped us solve the issue. We all had lots of fun and are already thinking of coming back again in the future! So quiet, friendly host, platypus in the dam to see at dawn. Lovely walk up the hill. Clean toilets. 15 mins to cradle mountain visitor centre. If towing a van from devonport direction do NOT follow Google through Gunns Plains. It's super steep and unsuitable for vans.
