We stayed 3 nights but felt like we had a 3 week break. It was that good. Easily pulled in with our 17’ caravan. Short walk to each of the two river access points. I thoroughly enjoyed the walk through the river to a track that leads to Derby. Rosie has put so much work into making campers feel welcomed and at home. We look forward to visiting again.

Weekend Trip to Stooge Farm Wilderness Retreat

Secluded camping, heaps of room to set up camp away from other campers. High lights were listening to the sound of the river close by down the hill, the views of the mountain and river from our camp made it pretty special, especially on a clear night where we could stare up into a sky full of stars. Husband caught a trout in the river and I was brave enough to have a little drip which was very refreshing in the middle of the day. Richard was super friendly, came to say hi to us on our second day, he was also very accommodating and responsive to our booking and refunds as we had to change dates and amend at last minute. We would love to visit again, kids loved the experience.

Lovely grassy sites next to the river. The provision of firepots is a huge plus (and wood can be purchased) Derby is really close by for those wanting to ride the bike tracks. Host was lovely and welcoming. Really enjoyed our stay.

Weekend Trip to Sherwood River Camp

A great location to stay especially before/after catching the Spirit of Tassie. Beautiful outlook over the river and well maintained property. A short walk/ride to a suspension bridge and lots of mountain biking too. This is our second time staying here and would recommend. Sadly this time there were other people staying who blasted music well into the night and were extremely noisy and disruptive. I suppose you can find that anywhere but it was pretty unpleasant to camp next to.

Although it feels like the end of the world, surrounded by bush and wildlife, we're only 30 minutes drive from Launceston CBD, Ben Lomond National Park and Josef Chromy's winery and only a 20 minute drive from Launceston Airport, making it a perfect base to explore Launceston and surrounds. You need to be fully self contained and there are no amenities. But there is a beautiful lake with jetty to swim in. We live on the property, just a stone's throw from the camp site, so if you ever need anything, just shout out. Dogs are permitted, however strictly on lead only to protect the wildlife and our sheep. If your dog gets very excited around wildlife or sheep, this may not be a suitable stay, since they might come right up to your camp. Please note, that Stringybark is a working property. While we'll always respect your privacy and keep noise levels to a minimum, please be aware that we do work on the land and that tools, building material and other rural property stuff can be present at any time (never on the campsite though). Many would consider this place to be very remote.....to us it is close to the City only 50 minutes away over the Mountain gravel roads. If you want to travel on mostly sealed roads go through Fingal and PAST Mathinna. Check maps before you leave as NO reception out here. It is 40 acres and we have MANY MANY free roaming animals, milking goats, ducks, chickens, cows, 3 BIG dogs. (The dogs will get out of the way of cars so just drive ahead and the dogs will move out of your way they have big barks but they are friendly) PLEASE NOTE: If you have any issues with dogs let us know in ADVANCE and we can lock them in their yard for your stay. EVERYONE is told upon arrival to honk/toot your horn if you have any issues or need help and one of us will come and help if you let us know! Otherwise we leave people in peace to camp as they wish and where they want. The property has a big guest house that is currently empty, this is where the flushing toilet is for you to use whilst camping if you like. This Rustic country house is also available for hire/rent, there is hot water via a woodfire (takes up to 5 hours to heat up water $50 per wheelbarrow load of wood) with Big triangle bath and a shower for use if you book the house, (3 single beds and a few new double bed air mattresses are available for your less rugged campers who want to come but need that extra comfort or to be close to a toilet at $40 per person per night.) You are welcome to come camping anytime with a range of needs catered to. Sorry no wheelchair ramps, a single step into the house and one step into the toilet too. Pick whatever spot you like to camp upon, by the river, the rocky island in the river, in the bush, just on the paddock grass anywhere. The big house is for you to use the toilet, kitchen sink and feel free to have a cold shower if you want. You can wander on the property connect with us and if you like you can help feed the animals. We are very happy to host people who love nature and enjoy organic farm life. There is NO wifi or mobile phone reception ZERO, so you can finally enjoy total tranquility. Our property runs beef and cultivates crops alongside the Ringarooma river, North East Tasmania. We often host mountain bike riders here to access the world-class trails at Derby. Nearby are many marked mountain trails, and numerous falls. Skiing is 1hr away in the winter. Our camping site is alongside cattle grazing paddocks and the Ringarooma river, and we offer one site only, to one group at a time, so it's yours exclusively. A toilet is available nearby. A gravel track descends to the river with a short steep bank preceding the flats. When the track reaches the river the camping site is just through the gate on the right. One gate and two wire gates may require opening on the way and these gates need to be closed again to prevent cattle from wandering. Electrical fencing is in use and alive - please be careful! Wood for your campfire is available to purchase, $15. I can supply fresh sourdough loaves $6 also fresh eggs $3perhalf doz, and fresh cows milk most of the year $5/2L. Fly fish for trout and cook over the coals for a treat. Welcome to bring your dog along, but please keep them under control.

Cradle Mountain, the Great lake, the upper Mersey Valley, the Western Tiers and extensive World Heritage wilderness areas are all within an hour or so of Stooge Farm. Stooge Farm is located in its own peaceful valley along the Mersey River and has some of the best fishing, swimming and kayaking opportunities you could find anywhere. There are numerous campsites along the riverbanks, as well as beautiful walks along the river. Stooge Farm is a safe and secluded place away from the hustle and bustle of the mad modern world. As well as camping, it is also available to rent for a variety of purposes; as the ultimate fishing retreat, for wedding, birthday and other significant life events, as a yoga, meditation and lifestyle retreat, or simply the ultimate holiday destination. This is such a special place that you really need to come and experience it for yourself to believe it. We await your visit. *Some important notes before you book: - Campers must have their own toilet and must remove all waste and rubbish. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all time. - River water is available but drink at own risk. - We recommend a strong vehicle, and a 4WD when towing caravans as the road in is steep. - This is a quiet peaceful place, and to respect the wildlife and other campers we have a strictly no generators, amplified music or unnecessary noise. We will have to ask you to remove your dog if it barks. - Please exercise extreme caution with fires as we are in a high risk area. Keep your fire small and in the fireplaces provided; put your fire out if there is no one attendance. No fires during windy conditions or days or fire ban. At almost 300 metres above sea level, “Sunridge” our 37-hectare working farm sits on the eastern end of Sunnyside, a rich agricultural area 30 minutes inland from the Spirit of Tasmania terminal at East Devonport. Valley Views provide breathtaking views of the Mersey Valley and its arable agricultural pastures. Travellers will need to be fully self-contained and of course ‘leave no trace’. The camp areas are located at the entrance to the property with ample room to pitch your tent or manoeuver your RV. There are two communal fire pots on site, wood is on hand via a donation honesty box. There are wonderful fishing, swimming and kayaking options at both Merseylea and Kimberley less than 10 minutes’ drive away. You'll find many opportunities for hiking, with trails suitable for all ages and abilities. The closest dump point is a 9-minute drive to the “Town of Topiary” Railton, where you will find two charming coffee shops, a hotel, post office, a petrol station with a convenience store, a mechanic, a craft brewery and a takeaway shop. Railton boasts the delightful Goliath Park, with multiple recreational activities available including a tennis court, a pump track, skate park, covered barbeque and picnic area and playground. It’s also where you’ll find a trail head for the World Class Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Network, complete with toilets and wash down bays. Every Saturday morning, an idyllic bush setting hosts the Railton Park Run. Ten minutes up the road you’ll find Sheffield, the Town of Murals and further south, Cradle Mountain. This is a working farm, we have working dogs and sheep, so four-legged friends must remain on leash.
