The camping site is located in a beautiful location overlooking the lavender fields, in bloom december/january, with the ever-changing Mt Roland in the background. Rivers Edge is 24 acres of forest on the banks of the Leven River in Gunns Plains, Tasmania. We are in our own little valley surrounded by tall forests. Preston Creek flows all year through our property and meets the large Leven River where your campsite is situated. Perfect for trout fishing, platypus watching, bird watching or catching the sun setting through the trees on the river bend. There are even the endangered black fresh water crayfish. The site is large enough for up to 5-6 caravans for large bookings, and we only take one booking at a time, so its exclusively yours. We are only 20km to the nearest town, Ulverstone which as everything you need. The road is close by the campsite with easy access to find the property. No toilet facilities at the site. Sat TV is good and limited mobile reception. Telstra works best we've found. River access over a rocky, uneven embankment as it's a natural, untouched environment, just how we and the native animals like it. Campfires ONLY PERMITTED when fire restrictions aren't in place. You absolutely must make sure your campfire is fully extinguished before you leave. Please check "My Trips" (in your profile) for directions once confirmed. Look for the 'Rivers Edge' sign on the entrance gate, then you know youve got the right site and not the neigbours property (which is along side mine on the river) Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept with you at all times, no roaming dogs as the road is close by. We love the peace and serenity here so please no unruly behaviour or parties.

Rivers Edge is 24 acres of forest on the banks of the Leven River in Gunns Plains, Tasmania. We are in our own little valley surrounded by tall forests. Preston Creek flows all year through our property and meets the large Leven River where your campsite is situated. Perfect for trout fishing, platypus watching, bird watching or catching the sun setting through the trees on the river bend. There are even the endangered black fresh water crayfish. The site is large enough for up to 5-6 caravans for large bookings, and we only take one booking at a time, so its exclusively yours. We are only 20km to the nearest town, Ulverstone which as everything you need. The road is close by the campsite with easy access to find the property. No toilet facilities at the site. Sat TV is good and limited mobile reception. Telstra works best we've found. River access over a rocky, uneven embankment as it's a natural, untouched environment, just how we and the native animals like it. Campfires ONLY PERMITTED when fire restrictions aren't in place. You absolutely must make sure your campfire is fully extinguished before you leave. Please check "My Trips" (in your profile) for directions once confirmed. Look for the 'Rivers Edge' sign on the entrance gate, then you know youve got the right site and not the neigbours property (which is along side mine on the river) Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept with you at all times, no roaming dogs as the road is close by. We love the peace and serenity here so please no unruly behaviour or parties.

We are 15mins to Port Sorell, Bakers Beach, Narawntapu National Park, and House of Anvers Chocolate Factory. 25mins to Devonport, 1hr to Launceston, 1.5hrs to Cradle Mt and surrounded by attractions from Berry Farms to Wineries and stunning farmland. This is a beautiful natural campsite on land near our home. You'll need to have your own power, toilet/shower and leave no trace. We've had 18 months off, but we're back and hope to see you soon!

An approximately 3-acre clearing is also available by the river. For easier access directly from the road, The Little Paddock is an excellent choice. While suitable for smaller vehicles, it's also ideal for larger caravans. This area offers approximately 5 acres of clearing right beside the river. Both paddocks are conveniently located just before the bridge and provide ample open space for outdoor activities like frisbee or cricket. Natural Surroundings & Activities: Leven River Camping borders the Dial Range Nature Recreation Area and a Nature Conservation Reserve. Our sites are set on lush, green, fern-filled river flats within a sometimes misty forested valley, cradled below Mt Duncan and Mt Lorymer. The surrounding area boasts popular hiking and mountain biking trails. The Leven River itself is a highlight, offering some of the best trout fishing in North West Tasmania. You'll also find perfect spots for kayaking, along with private river beaches where you can relax, paddle, swim, or enjoy a picnic. Access to the property is via a very scenic 4km, well-maintained gravel road that winds downhill to the base of the valley. Important Information No facilities are provided on-site. Guests must bring their own camping toilet (a dumping point is available in Knights Rd, West Ulverstone) and are responsible for all rubbish removal. Campfires must be small and adhere to Tas Fire Service recommendations and regulations

Andrew, who greeted us on arrival with some of his girls eggs and a load of firewood that lasted our three days and then some if needed, has a delightful spot for enjoying exactly what Tasmania has to offer. The river and yes platypus were spotted, birds, fish and beautiful smells that make relaxation and admiring nature possible. Whilst the weather wasn’t in our favour we still thoroughly enjoyed it and went for bush walks around his property. Close by is wings wildlife park or a little further caves and waterfalls. Loved our stay and thank you for sharing your beautiful spot.

So quiet, friendly host, platypus in the dam to see at dawn. Lovely walk up the hill. Clean toilets. 15 mins to cradle mountain visitor centre. If towing a van from devonport direction do NOT follow Google through Gunns Plains. It's super steep and unsuitable for vans.

When to go

The best time to visit Mole Creek Karst National Park is during the warmer months, from October to April, when the weather is pleasant for cave tours and picnics. Winter can be cold, and some facilities may have reduced hours, so always check ahead for seasonal changes.

Know before you go

  • Always dress warmly for cave tours, as temperatures inside are a constant 9°C, regardless of the season.
  • Sturdy walking shoes are recommended to safely navigate the caves' stairs and uneven surfaces.
  • Check for any track closures or safety alerts before your visit, such as the current Fern Glade track closure.
  • Remember, this is a fuel stove-only area; open fires are not permitted.
