Stonesthrow is a 106 acre rural property in the peaceful Illinbah Valley. Nestled between Beechmont and Canungra, we are about an hour (a stones throw) from the Gold Coast or Brisbane. Over time, the property has been used to farm goats, train racing camels and spell racehorses and is now a family hobby farm. We currently have three dogs, cows, horses, goats and some friendly donkeys who love to meet new people for some pats and a carrot!
The Stonesthrow Bush Camping sites are close to the beautiful shallow creek that meanders its way through the property. These sites have access to facilities - toilets, a powered shed, kettle, fridge and a sink. Some sites offer 2WD access yet still facilitate the experience of camping in the bush. THESE ARE THE ONLY SITES THAT CARAVANS CAN ACCESS.
The Stonesthrow Elevated sites are located higher up, with stunning views of the valley. These sites are only accessible by capable 4WD and require you to bring your own sealed, chemical camping toilet and ensuite tent which we sight on arrival before allowing guests access to the track. Check-in must be during daylight hours to enable safe access. Off-road camper trailers can access these sites.
Friendly dogs are welcome and must be kept on a lead when in close proximity to the cottage and other campers. Please note, the availability of certain sites is weather-dependent.
We are not a 4WD adventure park. Vehicles must be left at your campsite and NOT used to explore the property. Exploration of the property is welcome by foot or bicycle: 1.2 km from bottom to top.
Due to insurance considerations, no 'day visitors' are allowed unless they have an approved Hipcamp booking.
We are a Leave No Trace campground - ensure what you bring in, leaves with you.

The location of the Treehouse was chosen by our then young children. We all fell in love with the magnificent camphor laurel tree growing at the edge of the seasonal creek.
We all found ourselves drawn to that place, so with the help of our friends and our children we began the project of manifesting a dream into a reality - the dream of living in the tree canopy.
As we worked on the Treehouse, the design was constantly changing. The whole family, especially our youngest son, contributed to the manifestation of the dream. During that time we overcame many obstacles and found solutions to build in the tree. It was an adventure, a lot of fun and we learnt a lot.
It became a dwelling for our kids for a period of time, until they grew up and left to conquer the big wide world.
Now it is here for you to enjoy, to reconnect with your dreams, to dive deep into your childhood playful memories where the world of fantasy and reality merge together.

Positioned 800 metres above sea level amidst the sub-tropical rainforest of Woonoongoora – Lamington National Park in the Gold Coast Hinterland, Binna Burra is centre stage to some of Australia’s most spectacular natural features.
The unique isolation provides the perfect escape from the stresses of every day life and a chance to get back to basics, interact with nature and experience a freedom and sense of peace that few places can offer.
Our campsite is located right on the doorstep to Lamington National Park and the entrance to most walking tracks. The nearby Tea House cafe is also open for all guests and features a small gift shop with basic supplies and retail goods.
Camping options include campsites for up to 4 people and a limited number of powered drive-on sites suitable for small campervans. Sites are level pitches. No vehicle access is possible onto campsites, only on drive on sites. Tents and gear must be carried a short distance from the loading bay to pre-allocated sites.

Great location. Close to everything at Mount Tambourine and the local Tavern. Very quiet and we had a nice outlook up to Mount Tambourine. Kezza was a great host who was more than happy to show us around their Moringa plants and what they can be used for. We had never heard of this plant prior to our stay.

Nathan met us when we arrived and showed us around. Beautiful grassy area with the firepit next to the creek. Plenty of room to maneuver our iload van. Toilet was a bonus and clean. Relaxing and quiet. We didn't have any close neighbours and felt like we had the place to ourselves.

Stoney camp is a Great spot for a couple night getaway no reception tucked away! 3 separate walk ways to the river feels private and tranquil.
Friendly staff, with great knowledge of the local wildlife and birds.
Definitely will be back.

What a gorgeous site! Beautiful views, clean amenities and easy to get to!
We had the privilege of staying on site 10 and the site was immaculate right on the lake.
Lisa was so friendly and welcoming and we were treated with cows grazing through on our last morning. I would absolutely recommend this to anybody seeking a cozy camp right next to a beautiful lake.
Dont be discouraged about reviews complaining about the rules, they're not unreasonable if you're just a normal respectful human 🙂

Nice spot for a night or two close to southern Brisbane. It is easy to access and there are loads of birds. Lots of open space between big eucalypts. Peter has firewood for sale on site and there were even a few kangaroos grazing in within the boundry.

We had the whole camp to ourselves on the long weekend and it was magical. The grounds are beautifully maintained with two large flat camping areas and a lovely communal fire pit. The entrance to the river under the big fig tree was truly special — one of those moments that stops you in your tracks.
The weather was hit and miss but being right on the river made it perfect regardless. So peaceful, with birds all around.
One note for families: after rain the creek runs fast — the kids had an absolute blast riding floaties from one creek entrance down to the next, over and over again! Just wear secure shoes we lost a croc to the current.
We’re already planning to come back. Highly recommend. 🌿

We had a lovely stay at this Hipcamp spot. The place itself is beautiful and very peaceful, which made for a really relaxing camping experience. I also really appreciated having portable toilets located around the site, which made it easy and convenient to access them, even at night.
There are a few things that could be improved to make the experience even better. The signage around the site could be clearer — although there is a small map provided, it can still feel a bit confusing when navigating the area for the first time.
We also found the firewood to be quite expensive compared to other places we’ve stayed.
Lastly, considering the number of camping spots and guests, the shower facilities felt a bit limited, with only two showers available for the whole site, which can lead to waiting times.
Overall though, we really enjoyed our stay and would still recommend this place for its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere

Campsite 18 was perfect for a group of mates who want their own space away from the crowd but had access to amenities and the beautiful lake for some swimming throughout the day. Host Lisa was very nice and accommodating and they provide their own firewood which saves a lot of effort on your end!

North Coast
If it’s the Gold Coast theme parks you’re here for, stay as close as possible to the action by staying in Helensvale. Those looking to escape into nature can enjoy the unspoilt beauty of South Stradbroke Island. As you can only reach the island by boat, Tipplers, North, and South Currigee campgrounds are limited to tents only.
Central Coast
To stay close to the surf breaks, shopping strip, and entertainment in Surfers Paradise, consider the Southport area, home to many family-friendly spots. Just down the coast, more campgrounds are tucked into the sand dunes of Miami.
South Coast

Nightfall Camp offers a secluded wilderness getaway in Lamington National Park with extras comforts—this luxury glamping experience features safari tents with bathtubs, fireplaces, rain showers, and organic meals. A more basic experience is on offer at The Settlement, Springbrook National Park’s only campground: This small site is a short walk from Purling Brook Falls and has just toilets, drinking water, and barbecues facilities.
