The land is beautiful, big open field with lots of places to camp. There is a small like you can fish in or sit out in a kayak and relax. We got lucky and had the whole area to ourselves but if you enjoy being around people and camp when others are there it seems like it’d be a lot of fun and not cramped at all. Jess the host was amazing, grows lots of exotic fruits and was very accommodating. 100% would recommend.

We found this little gem of a place. Viet Jess which is on Rosedale Road Avondale QLD Jess and staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed 3 nights in this most relaxing camp site Hanoi 2 right in front of the dam. There are free kayaks with life jackets supplied. You can fish and swim in the dam. There is a play ground for kids and an animal farm with chooks, ducks, geese, pigs and goats. There is also a huge veggie garden which you can help yourself to beautiful vegetables. Thank you to Jess and the boys for the iced coffee and tea along with the melon soup that they made on our last night, absolutely delicious. There are no toilet or showers however we were self contained in our caravan. Everyone do yourself a favour and come and support Jess at her little hobby farm which has only been open about 3 months. Plus we had a great meal good prices at the Avondale Tavern which is only 3 ks from Viet Jess hobby farm .

7 nights at Beelbi Creek Stop & Stay

Fantastic Hipcamp! Heaps of grass spots to choose from, free firewood, lots of nature - including fireflies, which we've never seen before. Shane, the host, was great and checked in with us to let us know a storm was coming. Stayed a week, but could easily have stayed for longer.

1 night at Woodlands Farmstay and Glamping

Situated close to the highway this was the perfect Hipcamp to use for our trip south. Despite only being a short distance from the turnoff this property does make you feel like you are in the woods. We were lucky enough to meet the lovely family who are creating this Hipcamp and can’t wait to see what they do in future. Kids loved the sandpit and play area. Goats, cows, chickens which the kids also loved and got to feed and the beautiful walk to the fairy garden. Would stay again.

lovely hosts, they have a great property with cute animals and are very thoughtful in making your stay fun with toys for kids including bikes to ride around and a fairy garden. the drop toilet is well designed, airy and no smell :)

4 nights at Dam Crazy Camping

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at Dam Crazy. Peaceful, clean toilets, plenty of birdlife. We loved the walking tracks and the jetty and boat shack are a great addition.

When to go

Bundaberg is busiest between November and March during the turtle nesting season, but it pays to book campsites as early as possible for any holiday periods. Another good time to visit is July to November, when the waters off Bundaberg come alive with humpback whales as thousands migrate north to mate and give birth, then take the return journey to Antarctica. Bundaberg weather is warm and temperate year-round.

Know before you go

Camping permits are required for all Queensland parks, forests, and reserves, and all must be booked online and paid for before arrival. Make camping bookings as early as possible, especially for dates around Christmas.
Remember to pack sunscreen—the Queensland sun can be fierce. If you are heading to the islands to snorkel or dive, check out sunscreens that won’t damage the coral reefs (those that don’t contain oxybenzone or BP-3).
Book as far ahead as possible for turtle encounters at Mon Repos Conservation Park. Numbers are limited and a waiting list operates most years. On the night of your tour, be prepared to wait up to two hours for turtles to appear on the beach and for your turn to come. It’s worth it!
