The town of Bullyard was developed primarily as a cane farming district in the late nineteenth century. The name, however, apparently relates to when a drover named CHARLES HOLMES was transporting bulls between Walla and Tantitha stations and he constructed a temporary yard for the bulls, hence "Bullyard". A railway station, called Kolan Railway Station, was erected in 1881 (on the Bundaberg-Mount Perry railway line, completed in 1884) and timber from the surrounding area was loaded onto trains there. Closer settlement, however, appears to have occurred somewhat later. A provisional school was established in 1901. Then becoming a state school in 1909 (and a new school built in 1933), reflecting a small, but growing population at this time. The district was dominated by cane farms supplying the nearby Bingera Sugar Mill. Bullyard Hall was built in 1908 by Samuel Kent on 10 acres of land purchased for that purpose. The hall was connected to electricity in 1952 and the hall was extended in 1957 with a bigger dance floor. Other additions included a stage, kitchen and ladies' room. The hall was repainted in the 1960s, with the exterior painted with linseed oil and burnt umber (giving the hall its distinctive appearance).
The hall was, like other local public halls, used for social events such as dances. Movies were shown at the hall from the 1920s and it was also used for church services. Newspaper references from the 1930s through to the 1950s indicate the hall being used as a venue to sign up workers for the local cane crushing season.
The hall grounds were also used for a range of sporting events. There are references to athletics competitions held at Bullyard from 1911 and the track was improved in 1913. A tennis club was formed in 1928 and tennis courts were constructed using crushed ant bed. Cricket was popular, so much so that the Cricket Club merged with the Hall Committee in 1930. Bullyard hosted cricket matches against local teams including Wallaville, Albionville, Gin Gin, Bucca and Bundaberg and the pitch was also constructed from ant bed, similar to the tennis courts.
Bullyard Hall is located in the south-western corner of a 4 hectare reserve that in turn is located in the northern part of town on the eastern side of Bucca Road. A mostly circular fenced sports ground extends from the hall to the north and east. Most of the fenced, predominantly levelled grassed site has been cleared, some remaining scrub vegetation exists in the north and northeast and on the boundaries and it appears that the ring of trees on the perimeter of the sports ground have been deliberately planted.
The hall consists of a low set weatherboard clad timber structure on timber stumps with a slight variation in height to level out the site and features a corrugated iron clad gable roof. An annex with skillion roof is attached on both sides of the main building. The main entrance is from the front via some steps onto a landing covered by a gable roof and through double timber doors. There are two casement windows on the façade, one at the main building covered by a straight window hood and a second at the right annex. The northern elevation facing the sports ground features a side entrance with access via some steps and three casement windows. On the southern elevation is another door flanked by two casement windows. A third annex, also with skillion roof, is attached at the rear of the hall. Three doors covered by an awning lead into this section. 1 large water tank is located towards the southern corner.
A number of ancillary buildings are located in the vicinity of the hall, including a corrugated iron clad toilet block, stalls consisting of timber (including bush timber posts) and corrugated iron and a loading ramp.
Men from Bullyard made a significant contribution to World War 1, indicated by the Honour Roll located inside the hall.
In 2020 a water bore was placed on the grounds and in 2021 the hall had solar power installed, electricity wiring replaced, new meter box and sub box installed, refurbished glass windows, irrigation put in, 2 new water tanks and pumps purchased, smoke and heat detectors installed, security and spot lights installed.
In 2026 the hall was re-stumped and a wheelchair access ramp was installed.
There are markets held monthly (every 4th Sunday each month except January and December), fundraising events held throughout the year as well as ride on mower racing (twice a year) and remote controlled car races (every 4th Sunday each month)

Wrinkles camp is only one site, so no neighbours, with over 10 acres to access other areas for walking or bird watching. We have horses and cattle and it is a quiet and peaceful spot to kick back and relax.

The single campsite (yes just the one site) overlooks a large dam with jetty. Horses and cattle roam around out the back. Feed the wild birds such as duck, parrots, kookaburras, and more.
Just 5 minutes from Smiths Crossing for fresh water fishing, canoeing or swimming or go to Moore Park for a swim, surf or take the bike and use their great cycling paths. Other beaches close by are Miara, Norval Park and further away are Winfield, Baffle creek and the iconic Agnes Waters and 1770. All great spots to fish or crab.
The Avondale Pub is 1km away with great meals and drinks, and the Bucca Pub is 10 minutes away with weekend entertainment. Jo's road house is just up the road and has all the essentials food wise with great pizzas, and fuel. Next to Jo's is an RACQ centre and mechanics. All this at your fingertips or just kick back and enjoy the peace and quiet in amongst the large gum trees and native lemon scented gums.

We have a beautiful hobby farm on 2 and a half acres. Camping is at the front of the property where you will find vegie gardens and fruit trees. There is also a fire pit (plenty of firewood available), a trampoline and a games shed with toilet, shower and kitchenette facilities. Yes we live on the property and the campsite is in the front yard, however we do not infringe on your space at your campsite or the amenities area - these are yours and yours only whilst camping here. We do not double book our sites, it is strictly 1 group at a time.

Gin Gin is on the main highway to head north or south. Easy access from here to National Parks for walks and 4WDing.
Being a hobby farm we have livestock in a paddock in the backyard. If you would like to join us for feeding in the afternoons please ask on arrival. Feeding happens between 4 and 6pm depending on time of year. We also have chickens that free range around the campsite at the front of the property who will happily take any of your scraps.

communication, and we are also only 18km from Gin Gin and
around 50km from Bundaberg.

A huge 350 acres to explore where you will find waterways, billabongs, hills, dams, mango trees and more.
Walk through the seasonal creek, easily accessed at the Mango Grove, and see a lot of Quartz and other rocks.
While exploring you could find Kangaroos, Echidnas, Goannas and many bird and plant species.
Did we mention Gin Gin is only about 15 minutes away? So there's no need to worry if you need more Ice or Food! And if your interested in a day getting wet, Paradise Dam is only 40 minutes away.
The area does have some places that we do not allow visitors due to needing clearing and cleaning. Please be mindful to stay away from the areas with 'junk'. We are trying to clear the place to turn it into somewhere magical and we appreciate your understanding until this occurs.

Confirming there are no water connections to these sites, please fill your tanks prior to coming, however; fresh water is available for drinking. Select Powered, do not add as an extra.
In addition there are 7 large family sized unpowered sites with a firepit available for each, overlooking the river flats - Septic flushing toilets, Shower room (solar bag not supplied), Drinking water, Camp kitchen area, Firepits - bring your own wood or purchase from the owners (please do not source firewood from the roadside due to animal habitats). Park your caravan or pitch your tent by the creek, Stockyard Creek. On our 28 acre property you have access to an extremely large dam for your water toys ( non powered) and mowed walking tracks all over the property. Campers must be self contained with their own toilet.
Kangaroos are everywhere and an abundance of birdlife have the 2nd very large dam all to themselves. The site provides complete privacy and peace and quiet except for the bird song.
The Heritage township of Childers is 5 minutes away by car, Woolies, restaurants as well as a main street that is very worth while walking down. Great coffee shops and interesting old Hotels. A great place to stop over if you are heading north or south.

This camp is truly exceptional with level grassed sites for powered and unpowered rigs. Right on the bank of the Kolan River, it's peaceful and the toilets and showers are new and squeaky clean. There are portable firepits which function safely but impressively. Mid-week, we were all alone. Just 800 m down the road the Bucca Pub provided us with an excellent meal. Our host Sarah was very welcoming and provides us with camp chairs when we had left ours behind🤗

Gorgeous quiet spot. We stayed at Hanoi, so we were tucked away near the dam, which was perfect for us. Jess is a wonderful host, we were gifted with some delicious strawberries, and she has a little shop with more.
We were travelling without kids, and there is plenty of space to camp if you'd like somewhere quiet.
There a playground and lots of friendly farm animals which are great if you are travelling with kids.
Highly recommend a trip to VietJess for all travellers.

We had a great time at the campground! The views of the dam were beautiful and the sites were nice and grassy. It was perfect for the kids to be able to feed the animals, too. Plus, the host was super accommodating and helpful throughout our stay.

We had such a fantastic weekend stay! The kids were entertained the entire time; they absolutely loved kayaking and swimming in the dam, meeting all the farm animals, and making full use of the playground and toys.
To top it off, cooling down with a delicious Vietnamese iced coffee and strawberry shake was a total treat. We had such a wonderful experience that we’ve already booked our next visit! Highly recommend this spot to families looking for a fun, relaxing getaway.

The farm was very interactive and a lot of animals to see pat and feed the views were amazing beautiful sunrises and sunsets to be seen very clean and tidy great spot for kayaking and the owner was so approachable and lovely coffee and strawberries were delicious we will be back for day trips and camping

This Hipcamp is AMAZING! The “pool room, men’s shed” is extremely creative and worth a see. The host is exceptionally accommodating, the facilities were clean. I went to Bundaberg for a wedding and I was so happy I booked where I did, this hipcamp. I arrived back to the property late and the host had a light on for me to make it easier to set up my rooftop tent. If you park in the right spot, you get the shade all day. This is amazing for caravans, rooftop tents or even swags. I will definitely be going back with the van next time for a longer stay, enough time to see the sites of Bundaberg! Thanks again!

Beautiful grounds to camp on with tent with view of the pond.
Our two small children loved all the farm animals and playground equipment.
the Vietnamese coffee was delicious definitely worth the treat!
Toilet well looked after, we didn’t use shower so can not review it.
Already talking about coming back next year for extra time. Thank you.

We loved staying at Sunrise Horse Stud. The owners were very friendly and the kids helped feed the farm animals including horses, highland cows and geese. The site was level with easy power access. The property was very quiet, especially at night. The kids also got to see a few horses working in the arena which was a real treat for them.

It was peaceful with a bit of extra than just bush camping due to the shed and ensure. Nice position for day trips to other tourist spots like 1770, Bundaberg, Lake Monduran and boating / fishing spots.

Thank you Dennis and Sue for a great stay. Having the fire ready for us was really appreciated. We love the little touches, the seat to sit and reflect by the dam and the hammock at our Camp-site, which we used. Your very well cared for property was just a lovely relaxing stay for us and the dogs.

Very friendly welcome by Jennifer, and she escorted us to the camp area, directing us to a great spot to set up. Camped right by the river and were surrounded by beautiful bird song. A fire pit was in place to burn some logs for the evening.
