Mckinney Falls State Park
This 700+ acre park is beautifully equipped for all kinds of adventures—and you guessed right—has two sets of falls. Combine natural swimming pools formed by the falls (best after a rainfall) with some of the best climbing in the state and you have a recipe for the best afternoon ever: cliff diving!
If jumping off of cliffs isn’t your forte, visit “Old Baldy,” one of the oldest bald cypress trees in Texas (with like, the coolest name). Try angling 101 at Onion Creek with the Tackle Loaner Program (like a library for fishing gear). Bonus: you don’t need a license to fish from shore in Texas state parks. Show off your treasure hunting skillz at a park-hosted Geocaching Challenge.
With an abundance of activities and history to boot, this state park is great for swinging by after work or for a long weekend of expanding
