Harpeth Pass got its name from an old road that ran through the property, once used by area residents as a short-cut from Peytonsville to the Harpeth community that sits south of the ridge. As this area was famous for its colorful moonshiners, the pass was also used as a route for bootleggers to avoid the local sheriff and his deputies while transporting their goods to local customers. Legend has it that a cache of civil war era weapons was found in a hollowed Oak tree just off the pass, most likely hidden there by confederate soldiers who settled in the nearby area known as Little Texas after the war.
