Fifteen thousand acres - not of forest, of LAKE! This is not a Tennessee-style April Fool’s joke. After some mondo earthquake-age in the early 1800s, the Mississippi River actually flowed backwards for a time creating a flooded forest of sorts. Enormous Cypress trees jut out of the water, with roots buried just beneath the surface. It’s a prime spot for boating and fishing, but you’re not gonna want to swim here (nor are you allowed to). Swap your swim trunks for some binoculars - the bird watching is insane. If you go in January or February, there will be thousands of American Bald Eagles at the park, and hundreds of pelicans in the fall.
