I've always wanted to have a vegetable farm. So, when our vacation spot, the "Jesus is Lord Family Campground", became available for a fraction of it's worth we packed up our bags, moved out of the city and took the offer. We quickly got to work converting the sunny field over to healthy veggie crops. Kale is king here! Soon there after a greenhouse and two high tunnels were erected, enabling us to start seeds early, grow 10 feet tall tomato plants, and keep greens alive all winter.
We recently acquired 12 cabins and are now offering farmstay packages, where folks can book a vacation on a working farm. You can get your hands dirty planting organic veggies, take a sustainable homesteading workshop, stay in a cabin, or tent if you like. In between take a dip in our Spring fed mountain lake or a walk around our lake trail.
We ( 3 kids , my wife Dawn and I) have been homesteading here for 9 years, and we've learned allot, namely that God is the provider of all. This has become more clear since loosing two of our three children to "going away to college." It's amazing how new people show up to help out and pull weeds, can tomatoes, and paint buildings. They become part of our family.
We are, like the owners before us, unashamedly Christian. This does not make us right wing fundamentalist, but beggars who have found a loaf of bread. Jesus is the Bread of Life, and his love and forgiveness is a healing balm, making its receptors humble, not proud.
Speaking of healing balms, there are many healing herbs used in the Bible.
I am currently studying herbology, and hope to incorporate medicinal herbs into our farmstay workshops.
We are all about earth stewardship and practice organic sustainable living. We have even incorporated a deep mulch, no till method on our farm, ensuring the least disturbance to the soil and it's tiny life forms.
Our goal is to be completely sustainable, off grid, organic, with others that share our values.
