Ironwood Trail & Private Campground

     It took seven years to carve this winding trail and two-level scenic  campsite into the wooded hill behind our home.  Now completed, I feel inspired to share their solitude and beauty with others who will appreciate it. From the top of a steep drive, a brief but precipitous hike leads you high up very quickly through a mature forest to some steps that lead the first of two camping locations leveled within clefts of rocks forming a pair of overlooks. A soft, level campsite awaits you there under a canopy of trees where you will find everything you'll need for a small-scale deep forest outing.      The lower level either stands alone (1-2 persons) or serves as a base camp for the Northwest Expansion area (3-4 persons) a very short hike away.  (Please inquire about additional campers.) The expansion features a roomy 13 x 15ft groomed tenting surface, a stone fire ring with steel fire pit, and plenty of extra space to spread out.  It provides an additional layer of privacy and a (leaf-permitting) northwest view that usually includes a sunset.      [Note: Reservations include use of both the lower level and the upper Northwest Expansion camping areas.  Keep in mind that the technical nature of the trail and terrain makes it unsuitable for most children under 10 years old.]      Hundreds of feet away, there are a few homes residing below the camps, but you are high enough above the world below to enjoy a sense of separation from it.  Were these camping areas part of any state or commercial campground in Pennsylvania they would easily be among the best tenting sites in the state.  Even among Hipcamps we were awarded a top-ten rating in 2018 and 2019+ - and we've improved since then. People love it here.       Guests will find a huge, well-stocked chest of supplies at the lower level to furnish virtually any extra thing(s) that may help you camp in comfort, from a Coleman cookstove and table, an air pump, a kettle, a 8x10 tarp, plates and cups and cutlery-there's even a Scrabble game and playing cards. You get the idea.  ** We ask our guests to arrive prepared with their own supplies and to use the supply box as a backup for items that may have been forgotten or to fill in for things they do not want to purchase for a single outing.** (Please do not depend solely on the camp supplies to meet ALL of your camping needs!)  We took items on most camping lists and tried to have them waiting in the box so you can visit without worrying about forgetting anything.        Firewood bundles can be purchased at any time during your stay. We try to keep an abundant supply in a woodpile at the trailhead that you purchase as needed via cash, Paypal or Venmo.  Wood can easily be gathered, there are even hatchets and hand saws in the supply box for cutting fallen branches down to size.  We also provide a two-person hammock, plastic Adirondack chairs, battery powered lanterns, citronella torches, etc.  Cell chargers and jugs of drinking water are available upon request.           The woods are teeming with resident species of woodpeckers, owls, warblers and more, and vultures and hawks and can almost always be seen riding thermals overhead. If you're lucky the turkeys will come to roost in the woods above the area as they often do. The best part is that no one else will know you are up there.      In addition to overnight stays, daytime and evening hours are available too for morning bird walks, lunch breaks, herbal retreats, sunset cookouts--whatever guests might imagine doing in the privacy of the outdoors. We purchased our dream homestead in 2020, and we would love to share it with others as we build it to become bountiful and as self-sustaining as possible. It is not in the middle of nowhere....it's in the middle of everywhere! Learn more about this land: Camp next to a peaceful trickling creek just outside Phoenixville and Kimberton. We are a suburban oasis, surrounded by a little bit of everything.  Our homestead has plenty of activity including kids, dogs, and chickens, bees and goats! We have a fully wooded area available to explore across the creek, and weather dependent- the creek is a great place to stay cool. You'll see lots of growing fruit trees in our developing orchard and we are happy to share our vision for this beautiful land! We have a cabin-like bathroom and partial kitchen you will have access to during your stay. We always have cold water available for purchase in the fridge. There is trail access easily accessible from our home (the closest is approximately 1 mile), for paved or natural trail exploration. We are are a great stopping point for cyclists enjoying the area. It's a short drive to downtown Phoenixville with some of the best breweries around. Phoenixville is home to a great farmers market on Saturday mornings and numerous festivals. Also, close-by is the lovely quaint village of Kimberton, home of the best organic grocery store and many opportunities for hiking and small farms.

Have camped here twice in the past month and really enjoy the setting. The creek is beautiful and there’s winding paths through the woods that are fun for all ages. We were completely undisturbed by the other group of campers. We saw a fox in the brush which was a major highlight. Also have seen ducks, birds of prey, snakes, and frogs.

Great trip! Kim's really cool - we set the world to rights over the campfire with Melvin, the sweetest cat you'll ever meet. The huge birdhouses and mass of purple martins are a joy to behold, and with incredibly close access to Bombay Hook (which is awesome), it's one of the best value Hipcamps I've come across, and just a nice place to come back to after birding/sightseeing. A bit gnatty, but the campfire, which Kim generously supplied wood for, worked a treat to deter them, and if you have working bug spray bottle (not the one I grabbed from home...) you will probably be good. In case anyone's looking for things to do relatively nearby, I also went to Prime Hook and Cape Henlopen, both of which were beautiful to drive/hike through, though I wish I had more time at Henlopen to do some biking and frisbee golf. If you get a chance, hop to the Rail Haus Beer Garden in Dover - a nice crowd there and good vibes (trivia night on Wednesday was fun). For a close, non-chain restaurant, I'll just shout out the staff at the Smyrna Diner for being super friendly.

Such an awesome welcoming property. From the start I received fast responses. The property had 1 site with full hookups and an amazing view. The owner had firewood for sale that he brought to the site with his tractor. He had a bin for our trash, and electrical adapters for the RV. We had a late arrival and that was no issue either. Would recommend 10 out of 10. This is also my first time using Hipcamp and the experience was simple and easy

Kimberly was very warm and welcoming. If you are a cat lover, you will feel especially welcome with her loving cats. The location was peaceful and beautiful. Very close to a beach. Lots of birds and wildlife. Kimberly was so sweet to bring water and firewood and checked to ensure we had everything we needed.

Amazing place to camp and explore a farm full of animals and crops. The host Andrea is also an absolutely inspirational person, her and her husband Michael are running a whole operation. I got a tour of the farm from Andrea when I arrived and it was immediately obvious how passionate, dedicated, and informed she was about every detail. And hearing about all the shenanigans the animals cause felt like getting a recap of a reality show lol. Also the bathroom amazing! It’s literally nicer than any hotel bathroom I’ve been at. Will definitely be back with friends!

If you’re looking for a quiet and totally private spot to chill out, this is it! We stayed in site #2 with our 31’ class C RV. We did have a little difficulty finding a spot that was as level but after pulling up closer towards the fire pit, threading the needle between two trees, we got pretty close to it and really enjoyed the serenity this spot gave us. We had all kinds of bids flying around from a big blue Herron who greeted us upon our arrival to woodpeckers hanging out while we enjoyed the fire. The site is equipped with an outhouse, two picnic tables, two fire pits, deer stands and hamkocks-which was our favorite part. We can’t wait to come back again! Thanks for having us 🤩

Our group had a really good time on this land and would definitely visit again. There was no one staying on the other site while we were there, so it was very private. The camp keeper was communicative, responsive, and patient with us as we got what we needed and our group arrived / departed. We saw cutie water snakes, lots of crawfish, minnows, and MANY birds. This is a great site for the Merlin app. We appreciated the proximity to Philadelphia, as well. Note that there is no communal table at this site and you would be best served to bring your own chairs as well. The toilet was rustic, but average for the camp toilets we've experienced. It was super nice to have access to potable water! This was a laidback experience overall that would be great for folks who are generally self-sufficient.

Welcome to creek-side camping on our picturesque 16 acre farm! Here are a few ground rules to help with your stay -PLEASE READ SO NONE OF THIS IS A SURPRISE-: -Dogs are permitted if they are friendly and are trained well enough to listen and stay at your site. Again, they must stay at your site unless walking with you on a leash. If your dog inflicts damage to the sites (digging holes, chewing up piles of sticks, chewing up toys to bits etc. please clean up after your dogs. We will provide shovels, rakes if you need!) - OVERLANDERS: You can bring your overland camper if you want, but you must park your vehicle in the parking spot across from your site at sites 1-3. It is a safety issue to block the entryway/exit lane. Site 4 is large enough to accommodate your vehicle and these rules do not apply there. -This is a place for relaxation and reflection by the creek. No loud groups, or partying allowed. If your neighbor can hear your music it is too loud. If your host can hear it, you will be asked to turn it down or off all together. -This is a pack it in, pack it out site. This includes food waste, dog waste, and any garbage produced. Please respect that :) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BURN ANY WASTE IN THE FIRE RING BEFORE CHECKING OUT. -There is NO FISHING, kayaking or boating. Go for a swim and float, no prob! But please float in the vicinity of your camp, so as not to disturb other campers. - Please do not invite visitors to your campsite. This is an insurance issue, no exceptions. If you want friends and family to experience our beautiful spot, please have them sign up and book a site, wouldn't that be more fun anyway!? People coming to our land who are not booked at a site will immediately be shown off the property. -Due to virtually every booking asking for earlier arrival and later departure times, we are strictly adhering to the posted check in and check out times. You can enjoy the following on our sites: - Free, unlimited wood for your campfires. Each site comes with a fire ring. - Seating arrangements (picnic table, wrought iron loungers and chairs and wood benches). - Charming outhouse situated over a septic certified holding tank with toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
