Laureleye Farms

Even if the campsite was a dump and the host was a gremlin I would still come back here 100 more times just for the hiking. As it is however, the site is beautiful, and the host is lovely. The Brandywine Conservancy that preserves the rolling hills and patchwork forests is a true gem of Pennsylvania. I so thoroughly enjoyed my hike through those open meadows of talk golden grass that I just kept walking for close to 5 hours. And as the moon came up over the hills and the fog depended on me, and the fireflies lit up the night, I knew I was in a very special place. The horse farm was beautiful. The campsite along the river was very private with plenty of space to set up and spread out. And, the host was more than happy to share info about hiking, and the local coffee shop, and English pub (can attest... both worthwhile). I would recommend this place 10 out of 10 times.

One of the best camping experiences

What a beautiful property! The host left us detailed instructions and we had a blast exploring the river and fly fishing. This is a unique site as it’s private with no neighboring campers but you’re still close enough to town to drive and grab something. We felt off grid but also very safe. I highly recommend this site if that’s what you’re into!

Absolutely gorgeous spot to stay and camp at. The surrounding area couldn't be more beautiful and I really enjoyed my time here. I was lucky enough to experience a summer thunderstorm too. Definitely bring extra lighting and candles than you think you may need for nighttime. My only comment would be to add some sort of lock for the door as a precautionary measure for self and for things left inside while exploring the area. Already looking forward to another future stay here!

Camping with kids and a pup!

We had an absolutely lovely time at this campsite. It was remote and beautiful! The dog loved playing in the creek (as did the kids) and the beauty of the property blew us away! Bathrooms were a trek for kids- but I was so thankful for a flushing toilet. We had a really great time and would recommend it to anyone looking for a very peaceful camp site.

It was one of the coolest camping experiences I’ve ever had. I didn’t take them up on any of the farm activities or lovely horse horses that they had but everybody seemed nice and happy to be there and it was peaceful and quiet and beautiful.

A nice peaceful spot right by the river. The fire pit and picnic table are well placed. There are plenty of areas where you can put up your tent in shady spots. It is close to the roads/tracks but traffic is few and far between. Not many amenities but that’s the point - a peaceful back to nature experience.

Sleeping in a Chapel!

This chapel was AWESOME! Very unique, set in an incredibly peaceful and serene valley in rural Pennsylvania about an hour outside of Philly. As long as you are prepared with plenty of food and water, and what you need to sleep comfortably, and are prepared to use a pit toilet, you should have a fantastic stay. It was so fun to light candles and wonder about all the history that had happened in the chapel over the years. Plenty of space for a few people to sleep (we had 3). Susannah was open to us coming across the river to their property the next morning to meet some of the horses :) I only wish I had more time to explore the hiking. 10/10 would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Secluded Riverside

We really loved this campsite. Secluded from others and right on the river. We did underestimate the walk to the site though. I’d recommend this site for more primitive campers so you don’t have to make multiple trips to the car with your gear like we did. Or bring a cart for all your items. Lovely site! Will be back.

I enjoyed my stay. The babbling river put me right to sleep at night. The nearby trails are great for walking and enjoying the scenery. And of course the animals enjoying the landscape as well. I would definitely stay again.

This was such a great space. We came for our anniversary and it was a beautiful, romantic setting. The farm is idyllic and the chapel is set nicely by the creek. Highly recommend!

Magical creek-side chapel

I absolutely loved the chapel in the woods! It was so magical and the surrounding areas were just gorgeous. We really enjoyed our time walking on local trails, birdwatching, and dipping our feet in the creek. The chapel itself stayed cool all night. It was beautiful waking up to the sun coming in through the arched glass windows. Thank you, Susannah! I’d love to come back.

I was supposed to stay at Susanna's farm for 2 days unfortunately I got called out and had to go home after only an overnight stay. I didn't even get a chance to walk really around the whole property. All was pretty good except where I was staying I was kind of in between two driveways and there was quite a bit of traffic up and down the driveways all day. I think I would have preferred somewhere a little bit more private in that aspect. But like I said I was in the field by the creek and I didn't get really to walk around and go see everything. looked beautiful from where I was at! the creek was lovely! I I could hear the horses in the distance .

I had a great time camping in this adorable little chapel. Perfect weather for it in mid April. Make sure to bring enough lanterns/candles etc. I'm definitely not used to such dim lighting at night and found myself wishing for another lantern. I also took the farm tour and Susannah was absolutely lovely.

Camping in the cutest chapel!

The chapel is such a beautiful historic building that was such an extraordinary warm experience. The land is beautiful, the chapel is in fantastic shape, the horses are a majestic touch!! It’s exactly as listed: no water, no electricity, so as long as you come prepared you will absolutely have a memorable time! I think this would make a great solo, romantic, or friend group outing. Our host Susannah is a sweetheart, and is a great point of contact for any recommendations or questions! Will definitely be back (:

Susannah’s site was a great spot to tent camp. We spent the weekend exploring longwood gardens and winterteur, and it was convenient to both locations. Some folks mentioned it being noticeable being close to the road. We experienced this as well - headlights did come into the tent from time to time, but it really wasn’t bothersome. We would gladly return. Waking up to the horses running in the nearby pasture was a treat, and I enjoyed birdwatching in the field.

Beautiful, peaceful, basic camping

Really enjoyed our stay here, it's such a beautiful and peaceful place to stay with excellent walks by the river and into the woods. It's about as basic as camping gets with no easily accessible amenities but this is made clear in the listing and actually what I wanted. The site itself is not entirely flat so you need to spend a little time to find a decent spot to pitch the tent. Also I arrived too close to dark which was my own fault but did it a little more difficult to set up but....that was all on me. The instructions from the owner were great and I really appreciated how it was just turn up and get on with enjoying the area. As long as you come prepared for having everything covered xyou need to camp and firm in the knowledge that theres a 3-4min walk to the site from the parking spot you'll have a wonderful stay here. Also to add that I took an ebike with a trailer to take everything from the parking spot to the site which made everything so much easier. A gorilla cart or similar would be great also if you have one. Thanks Susannah for sharing your wonderful piece of Pennsylvania countryside with my young son and I, it was just what we needed to get away from the hustle and and bustle of Philadelphia.

Feb winter stay

Lovely little chapel, with beautiful old wood floors. Was a little cold at first and definitely need a bunch of wood and time to heat up. So make sure you have the right sleeping gear. Was able to cook with our pans directly on the cast iron stove. Dogs loved it and slept comfortably. Would stay again.
