Sierra Nevadas to the east, Sacramento River to the west and scenic, rolling farmland in every direction? It's no surprise that the camping near Chico wins big points for natural beauty and adventure potential. In addition to its natural splendor, this region has a rich Native American history, and remains the home of the Mechoopda tribe. Head just a few miles into the stark Sierra Nevadas for lakeside camping, boating and fishing; spend the night in Lake Oroville State Recreation Area for a truly unique camping experience on a floating campsite equipped with grill, restroom and plenty of shade. Or journey deeper into this impressive mountain range, where the Plumas National Forest offers rustic, secluded camping beside lofty falls and an impressive web of hiking trails. The Chico region is famous for its fertile land and agricultural abundance, and farmers far and wide are eager to share their land with campers. Book your trip for a cabin by the creek, or pitch your tent beneath the shade of an olive tree.

The best thing about this campsite is the host! He is generous and full of amazing stories.
Enjoying the meadow view. You can take your tent out here to get away from it all and hang with the Alpacas.
A beautiful farm that houses many farm animals. It's a great place to stay if you are looking for a place to camp with your horses or if you want to get that farm feel for the weekend.
Feeding time for the alpacas.

The nearby Sutter Buttes, known as the world's smallest mountain range, is a small ring of eroded volcanic lava domes.
View of the reservoir from our campsite on the lake front. Note: No swimming allowed, but it makes for a beautiful site. You can also drive down the road not too far to Lake Oroville if you want to swim for the day.
We were able to ride our mountain bikes around the large property. The property was huge and had plenty of space to roam.
Picnic tables were all around the property. Plenty for large groups of people.

The cabin has a great little deck that gets tons of sun. (And at night it makes for a good stargazing platform!)
The big cabin windows get direct sunlight in the afternoon. You wouldn't expect there to be as much light as there is, considering you're in the middle of the woods.
The loft sleeps two people comfortably, and has a great view of the site.
The Pioneer Trail is a 5-minute walk from the cabin. It's 25 mile long trail that weaves through dense forests and ice cold rivers, with sweeping views and complete privacy. On our 10-mile run, we didn't bump into a single person.
Towering trees make the cabin look miniature.
