Hickman Family Vineyards – A Wine Country Escape in the Sierra Foothills
Our love affair with wine began in the late ’90s, surrounded by the vineyards of Sonoma County. The tasting rooms, the people, the passion—it was contagious. Alyse found herself working for a boutique winery owned by Korbel, gaining an inside look at the magic behind the bottle. Inspired, we began dreaming of our own place—a vineyard built from the ground up with family, heart, and hard work.
In 2002, we found that perfect piece of land. Set at 800 feet elevation with rolling hills, majestic oaks, and wide open skies, we planted our first acre of Zinfandel in 2005 and officially opened Hickman Family Vineyards to the public on Mother’s Day 2011. Since then, our family—kids included—has been hands-on with every aspect of the vineyard, winery, and tasting room.
Now, we’re excited to share that experience with you. Our campsite offers a peaceful retreat in the Sierra Foothills, just a short drive from three nearby lakes and under star-filled skies free of city lights. Come relax, sip wine, and soak up the quiet beauty of our land. Whether you're here for the wine, the view, or the warm family welcome—you’ll find all three waiting for you.

The site sits on the edge of a beautiful 70 acre meadow where you can explore the historical Olsen barn, complete with barn owl. Follow the trail a short walk from your site to get epic views of Mt. Lassen,hiking, and fishing. Watch wildlife, birds, and the moonrise while relaxing at the table with built in fire pit. Getting There
Property is located ~9 miles down a dirt road in the bottom of a canyon with the North Fork of the Feather River at the bottom of it. Normal sedans should be OK getting down to the property if you drive slowly and are careful. Travel trailers are also fine but you should be cautious taking anything larger than 30 feet. Once you start down the road there is no place to turn around until you are at the bottom of the canyon.

* I have used Starlink here in the past and it works great.
* A fire in 2021 burned much of the tree coverage. Campsite 1 has very little tree coverage. Campsite 2 is nestled among trees.
* The property used to be an operating gold mine. There is old equipment onsite. DO NOT climb or touch any of the old equipment!

Large pine, cedars and oaks surround the living areas and we have done clearing for fire safety without compromising the environment. There is an airconditioned bedroom inside, a sleeping loft with queen bed, a bath house with shower, connected by a deck in back and a small front covered patio. Access to the vegetable garden is included. We are happy to share summer vegetables. There are great night time sky views and sunsets as well. A new addition is a swamp cooler in the main room. The yurt is a lovely space.

Peaceful, quiet spot backing up to open space and a historic barn. Loved looking out over the grassland at about sunset. Electricity, sewer, and water are all available. Love the well behaved dog.

We had a great stay at Mimi’s! Our dog loved playing with Indie. Indie was so kind, well-trained and respectful. Mimi was very helpful upon arrival. The outdoor set up and yard was beautiful . We stayed for 2 night as we were making a visit to Burney falls. After a full day out it was nice to come back to our RV with the full hook-ups. Would recommend and hope to visit again in the future!

The spot is at the end of a driveway next to her house and backyard. The view of the field, barn, and water are beautiful and it was very peaceful. Having hookups was a convenient bonus. Mimi was warm and welcoming, and we really enjoyed chatting with her about the area and her background and travels. Her dog, Indy, is amazing, and our son loved playing fetch with him in the mornings and evenings (as far as he was concerned, Indy was the highlight of the trip). The location is right by Lake Almanour and 40 minutes from Lassen Visitor Center; while we found it more convenient to camp inside Lassen to see the park, if you don't plan to spend all your time in the park (and even if you do), it's a great option. In fact, we loved Mimi's and missed it as soon as we relocated to the Manzanita Campground. We can't recommend it enough!

Mimi is an excellent host and generally great person to converse with, but she’s also good about giving guests personal space if desired. The site was level with an electric hookup and waste dump. While it’s essentially in her side yard, we were free to use the deck and yard, especially to toss balls to her border collie. We also faced a huge land trust meadow and 1800’s barn with a distant view of the lake. Overall, a wonderful experience!

Mimi is a delightful person and the site was lovely… right on a large meadow w/ a view of the lake. We spent hours chatting with her, watching the baby birds in her many birdhouses, and walking around the quiet and peaceful meadow.

Mimi's Hideaway is lovely, and so is Mimi! After selling our cabin years ago, we had a wonderful time reconnecting with Chester, CA. We walked to the North Fork of the Feather River, rode our bikes down First to Lake Almanor, and walked the meadow each morning and evening. Our dog was in frisbee heaven, but was a little jealous of Indy - Mimi's well-mannered/behaved Border Collie. Indy was so tolerant of his grumpiness! Mimi has created a peaceful, relaxing spot adjacent to her home. She and her neighbors are friendly and welcoming. I will be back! Oh, and that freshly squeezed orange juice was delicious. Thank you, Mimi, for sharing your little bit of Chester beauty. It was such a pleasure getting to know you.

Weekend Trip to Mirabella
The yurt is in very well kept condition and can be very warm in there with the fireplace warming up the whole house. We personally loved spending time by it and preferred sleeping in the loft that gave us a nice morning sky view through the ceiling window. The yurt is also close to Nevada city, grass valley, south yuba park.
Judith is also very accommodating and very friendly. We would love to stay here again and would like try it in the spring or fall season.
