The cabin is an authentic, historic structure, made of hand hewn logs, but with modern conveniences. 15 minutes from Smith Mountain Lake, the area offers swimming, hiking, kayaking, and fishing. We’re also 15 minutes from Rocky Mount, Virginia, and 40 minutes from Roanoke. You will have the site entirely to yourself. About the listing Made of hand hewn logs, the cabin is an authentic, historic structure while also offering all of the modern conveniences you’ll need to relax and unwind. We offer three bedrooms total, including an east-facing main bedroom with king size bed. Access to a full bathroom in the cabin -- including clawfoot tub and hot shower -- ensures a comfortable stay. A washer and dryer are also provided. Take advantage of the fully stocked kitchen with oven, range, microwave, pots and pans, then enjoy your meal out on the screen porch that runs the length of the house. Additional details to note - Wood is available as a Hipcamp Extra upon checkout. - Pets are allowed, also for a modest Extra fee upon checkout, but please limit to two animals. The cabin is fully fenced in, so your animals should be fine roaming the property off leash. - There is limited cell reception for some carriers but internet is provided.

Shirley was very responsive. The property was amazing! The picture don't do it justice. There is another house near the cabin as the pictures show but the cabin is private and they are very respectful of your privacy. Like others have said, this cabin is stocked with everything you need. Don't hesitate to stay here!!

Perfect Family getaway

With kids

The absolute beauty of the property is first and foremost. From the drive up the driveway to the walk around the grounds you do not go without a view. Family with two kids and grandparents enjoyed every minute even during the rainy day. The pool did exactly as we expect and gave the kids the thrill of the weekend next to rolling down the hills behind the barn. The owners were very friendly and have a beautiful federal style home which just adds to the experience. They gave us advice on local attractions and local events. Not only are we looking forward to going during a different season but also thinking of having our wedding there. The venue barn which was available for us to view and enjoy on our trip is perfect for a destination wedding.

I had a beautiful pool all to myself! The weather was beautiful! I enjoyed a campfire one night, complete with s'mores! My little dog got to run free in the large fenced lot! The cabin was really cool! They even shared some tomatoes from their garden...I loved it! I'm planning on going back!

This is my second time here. This time, my husband and four legged child came along. It's a great place to bring a dog with the fenced in yard. Cabin is always clean and has essentials needed for a weekend stay. Hope to be back soon, perhaps sometime in the fall.

Don't Hesitate, Just Book It!!!

Amazing place!! We fell in love with this property. Shirley is definitely a super host. The cabin is stocked with everything you could need during your stay. We cooked in the kitchen and on the Weber Spirit grill. The pool was super clean, had nice lounge chairs as well as pool rafts and floaties. We had the pleasure of using the barn space and what a view for puzzling while watching thunderstorms roll through. We didn't have any trouble with cell service, but appreciated the Wi-Fi just the same. The property upkeep was excellent! The host was communicative and able to assist when needed. Looking forward to returning!!! Can't say enough nice things about this spot.

The pictures do not do this place justice! It was even better than we expected. Shirley was extremely responsive and helpful throughout the whole process. Our dog loved the freedom of being off leash for the entire stay and did not want to leave. The rustic cabin was offset by all the modern amenities, so we did not have to worry about bringing every little thing. It was very well stocked not only in the kitchen, bath the bathroom and laundry room. The king-sized bed was very comfortable, and there was plenty of pool furniture and equipment to enjoy the outdoor. We definitely recommend and will come back again!

Beautiful land and scenery. Pool well kept even thought it was too cold to swim. The log cabin is perfect, too. We had a small issue in the kitchen and Shirley was on top of it. Responded almost immediately and took care of the problem. Hope to be back soon!

My friend and I had a relaxing weekend at Shirley’s log cabin- the views are incredible. The blazing fire pit at night was the most relaxing experience. The kitchen and bathroom had plenty of supplies and the screened porch was fantastic for sitting with morning coffee. Excellent!

Nice rustic, yet well appointed place to stay. The pool was a huge bonus. Plenty to do on site and plenty more within a short drive. You won't be totally secluded, but we didn't mind, and the host was friendly and readily available. We would stay again, thanks!

Old Time Relaxing Experience!

Great place! Very rustic log home and it has an inground pool! Fenced in yard great for my two dogs. Beautiful property! Quiet area with moo of a cow sometimes in the distance. Screened in porch with ceiling fans is nice! Very comfortable king bed. My wife loved the large claw foot tub! Relaxing experience!

This was a wonderful stay. We were a group of five - two small kids, two parents, one grandparent - plus a small dog, on a two-night trip from Charlottesville, around two hours drive. We were all easily accommodated in the rustic cabin, which is in a beautiful setting with extensive views across the surrounding countryside. We appreciated how tastefully the cabin was decorated and furnished. The pool area is enclosed by a small fence so we didn’t have to worry about the dog running off. Everything that we needed for cooking, grilling, swimming, lounging etc was provided. The instructions for finding the place and getting set up were clear. The host came to check in on us and introduce herself, and was friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this site and would definitely visit it again.

Incredible homestead! We had a blast disconnecting for the weekend and relaxing by the pool. Our dogs loved running around the fenced in yard. In close proximity to Rocky Mount for shopping and dining. Will definitely be back!

Our host Shirley was super friendly and always texted back promptly. Everything was as described and pictures doesn't do it justice. Such a spacious log cabin with everything you need. Stayed nice and cool. And the pool was clean and clear. I can't wait to go back to this wonderful property to stay. Bed was super comfortable. Firepit was perfectly placed to see all the stars and mountains of hills. Anything needed in town is only 10 min away. I can't brag enough on the host and this beautiful place.

Log Cabin Getaway

What a true gem in beautiful southwest Virginia! My girlfriend and I visited the Hollands home place with my golden doodle dog. We were blessed with a beautiful fall weekend and sunny skies. We spent most of our time at the farm for our trip. The log cabin is a wonderful getaway and back to simple times. The living room has a nice gas fireplace. Perfect for relaxing and playing some board games. The cabin has two nice sized bedrooms. The master has a window with a beautiful view of the sunrise over the mountain hills. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch swing and drinking coffee in the mornings. Immediately behind the cabin is a beautiful barn and fireplace. We enjoyed a fire most nights out by the barn. We also enjoyed a candlelit meal out by the barn. To top things off, I was able to set up a proposal inside the barn for my now fiancée. Couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful location. It was a special weekend that we will not forget. Shirley and her husband were excellent hosts. They checked on us a few times when we needed something but otherwise left us to enjoy the weekend and the scenery. 10/10 recommend and will definitely be back again.

Shirley’s cabin is wonderful! Beautiful surroundings, great pool, lovely screen porch that we enjoyed during afternoon storms. The kitchen is well-equipped, and the beds are comfy. We were concerned that the window AC units and fans might not be enough to keep us cool since there was record high heat during our visit, but it was just fine (the historical building style regulates the temperature nicely). Also, the Barn on the property is beautiful (and has amazing acoustics, if you’re a musician!). We had a great time and would not hesitate to book again!

Family camping at its finest!

This was our second time visiting the cabin and we brought another family with us this time. There was plenty of room for the 6 of us (4 adults, 2 kids), and we spent most of our time splashing around in the pool, relaxing on the screened porch, and hanging outside the barn listening to the cows in the distance and catching fireflies. Since our last visit (Aug 2020) wifi has been added, but we only used it to look up local wineries and breweries for a mini outing one afternoon. Everything was as lovely as we remembered it and I hope that Shirley will have us back next time we need a getaway.

Beautiful and interesting historic cabin. This cabin has character there’s so much to discover just inside. The pool is amazing and the views are stunning. We were here during the strawberry super moon and we had the perfect viewpoint to watch it rise. I would definitely recommend and would love to visit again.
