This is our second visit to this property. We stayed at the Maple Knoll last time and were delighted to see that the Creekside spot was open this time. The space is pretty buggy, so wear your repellent. But we absolutely loved being able to swim in the creek. It’s cold, but you’ll get used to it. Just take the plunge! We also really enjoyed the syrup we purchased.
What a wild place to be! Steve was an excellent host. We found a great spot a little bit away from the pond up in the woods. I felt very private and the dogs kept his company. If Steve offers you a four wheeling tour of the property, take it! It was quite a ride to see all of the campsites and all of the things that are happening at Wiley‘s Last Resort. I would definitely recommend this host and this property. We will come back if we’re ever in the area again.
We enjoyed our two nights at Kelli’s primitive campsite. Probably not ideal for rooftop tent campers like us, but sleeping at the parking site while setting up cooking and hanging back in the woods was pretty great. We used the canopy and chairs they keep at one of the sites, so we didn’t have to haul our own. The wagon Kelli left for campers was really a great idea — other hosts should do this!
The parking area is right on the road, but we probably saw about the same number of pedestrians (three) as cars. Kelli and her dog were two of them. She was very responsive and friendly.
A beautiful spot with lovely sights and sounds. We felt safe in our outdoor oasis next to the big oak tree. The sounds of the river behind us was the perfect sound track for our overnight stay. Daisy the dog may look ferocious but she is a sweetheart and kept us company for much of our day. She likes catching rocks by the river!
What a lovely space! The yurt exceeded our expectations for a romantic and intimate getaway. We loved the little touches provided by Jodee. Our plans to explore the beautiful surroundings were all set aside because we couldn’t seem to get ourselves to leave this cozy and comfortable oasis!
Nice host - Gary gave a great recommendation as we were leaving to check out Salmon River -- a nearby state park with a beautiful, crystal-clear river. HIGHLY recommend making this detour during your stay.
The campsites were just in an open field and not spaced very far apart. There were only two other campers in our area and we had a great time hanging with them. But if you're looking for something secluded, this is not the place. My camping buddy did the wine tasting while I was making camp. He said the flights of wine were VERY generous pours, so he came back pretty snockered. Whether this is a bug or a feature depends on your perspective!
Stuff that was not so good:
The portajohn was still not fixed -- it's big and the door is lying beside it. We had to let other campers know when we were heading there so they wouldn't walk in on us.
The firepit rings were not really installed -- just there on the grounds and not "dug in" to the ground at all. So we had to watch constantly for embers coming out from under the ring to the very dry ground surrounding. Please be careful with your fires - these are drought conditions right now!
Overall a nice time, but not really because of the campsite.
Wow - this was just a spectacular place. My camping buddy brought his camera gear and four lenses. We will be posting some of the amazing photos we took of this place. It is an expensive site, but the tent site #1 is simply a beautiful setting and is by far the best site in the quarry -- overlooking the quarry from a perfect vantage point.
We brought our guitars and the acoustics were amazing -- especially in the "drum circle" area in the back.
We spent one night here and one night at another site to save a little money. The other site was okay, but I would have been fine staying here another night. Definitely add it to your list of experiences.
Dean and Darlene were very accommodating hosts.
Can't say I have a downside comment about this place other than the price. But you will spend more than that at a Marriott and won't have nearly as memorable an experience.
We stopped here on our way to the Outer Banks. Arrived very late at night and found our spot just as expected. Our host was very accommodating and the large, well-appointed bathroom was a welcome bonus. We loved being surrounded by the animals on the farm. The half-dozen fresh eggs were wonderful! Thank you!
