See Canyon Fruit Ranch
in See Canyon Fruit Ranch, CaliforniaBeautiful land, great location
We really enjoyed staying at See Canyon Fruit Ranch! Susie and Paul were kind and inviting. It initially felt weird to be hanging out in the common area which is adjacent to their home, but Susie came out to chat a couple times and she clearly enjoys having visitors and sharing her beautiful property with others. Our kids enjoyed the kids âplayground,â sassy the goat and all the wild species (quail, turkey, deer, tons of bird species, raccoon). We agree with other reviews that sites are close together with no visual buffer, which is unlike other Hipcamps that space sites out more for privacy. However, we were there mid-week and before the height of summer camping season, and there was only one other Hipcamper during our stay. It sounds like they have weddings and events, and during those times the common area is off limits. Since we couldnât have fires, the common area was a large part of the quiet charm of this Hipcamp, so I recommend checking if there is an event scheduled before booking a site here. The location was perfect for exploring the central coast, just tucked off hwy 101 but on a rural road. There was some road noise just because the campsites are close to the road, but this was easy to overlook because the property was so peaceful. We recommend a visit to Kelsey Vineyards down the street â they have wild peacocks and delicious wines and hard ciders.

in Baby Banana Slug Farm, CaliforniaNewly renovated barn in redwoods
This quaint barn was a perfect retreat for my family of four. It was actually bigger then we expected, with 2 bedrooms (1 queen and 2 twins) plus a spacious loft area including futon and desk. Nathan and his multigenerational family were very welcoming, and we shared about 5 acres with them and 2 campsites, but the barn felt private. The family are working hard to improve the land, and you can tell a lot of thought and care went into turning this barn into a rental unit â efficient floor plan, beautiful woodwork and thoughtful vintage touches. Although the campsites are slightly removed through the trees from the barn, this would be a perfect situation to rent both campsites and the barn for a larger group that might have tent campers and folks that prefer beds and running water. We would totally come back here again!

Shasta View Treehouse
in ShastaView, CaliforniaPrivate and serene nature retreat
This site is amazing, and we look forward to returning in the future. Gary was very friendly in all interactions. The treehouse fit Our family of 4 with small children on the floor. The cooking stove was awesome. The sound on the trickling creek and hammock were relaxing. We rented only the treehouse, which means we were sharing the 5 acre area with those who rented the meadow tent platform. Shared facilities include the compost privy, fire pit and picnic table. The view of Shasta and stars from the meadow was spectacular, so next time, we will pay a bit more and rent the whole place.

(Dispersed site)
Cedar Bloom was just as amazing as we expected from the photography on Hipcamp. We were Open Camping, with our family of 4 with 2 children ages 6 and 8.
It was hotter in Cave Junction then we realized, so the river was definitely a mandatory feature and we spent hours a day in the water. The river access on this property is AMAZING â two different paths lead down to a wading rocky area ("family beach") and a large pool area ("mermaid rock"). We enjoyed both, but this time of year the family beach was only wading. Our family preferred Mermaid Rock, which was like a very large swimming pool including shallower entry areas as well as really deep areas. The flow is gentle enough to to swim and float in, and the combination of shallow and deep accommodates all ages. If you are modest Mermaid Rock might not be the right place for you because it is clothing optional, but seeing some nudes didn't bother our family at all. The general openness, acceptance and friendliness of everyone at Cedar Bloom enhanced the overall serenity and positive essence of our experience.
The only moment of hesitation we had was when we arrived and discovered there were A LOT more open campers then we expected. (Apparently they were at capacity for the first time ever.) We had anticipated having more privacy and space. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and stayed for 4 nights, and thankfully a lot of people headed out on Sunday and we had 3 nights with more space. This property still allows more space even when it's busy then most state or national campgrounds, but if you are looking for privacy this summer, I'd recommend planning to come mid week or choose a place that accepts less bookings at one time.
Past trip
in Jug Handle Creek Farm, CaliforniaBeautiful property, spacious sites
I've had Jug Handle Creek favorited for a couple years, and I was so excited to finally make it up here! It did not disappoint. Beautiful, well maintained property and each campsite has a lot of space. We were in site #3 which is on the edge of trees and the meadow. Our REI Kingdom 6 tent just barely fit in the cleared tent spot nestled into the trees. All sites have 2 picnic tables and a metal ring fire pit with BBQ grill grate. Because site #3 was on the meadow, we didn't have as much privacy as sites #5/6/7 which are tucked in the trees, but this allowed our kids to socialize with other kids in the meadow. Site #3 was still close to both pit toilets and the shared sink / kitchen area, so this was a convenient location. The actual Jug Handle Beach was spectacular and we spent a day there, and this was a great location to explore nearby areas like McKerricher State Park, Fort Bragg and Mendocino. We look forward to returning!

in Mill Creek Resort, CaliforniaStarry skies, fresh air, great folks
Second time at Mill Creek Resort, and we are in love with this place. It's the perfect balance of secluded nature with conveniences. Owners Joe and Jillian are super nice. The creek on the property is beautiful, the campsite is well maintained, AND we can get draft beer while our kids play on the playground in from of the general store. Our friend fly fished in the creek on the property and caught (and released) a few fish. We enjoyed exploring the areas around Mill Creek Resort, including Mount Lassen and Lake Almanor, and we look forward to coming back to explore some more off the beaten path lakes and hikes. The stars up here are breathtaking!

in Mill Creek Resort, CaliforniaMill Creek Resort is a treasure! We camped at site 17 which was at the end of the road. Because it backs up onto forest land, it feels more spacious and private then some of the other sites. The only negative was the pit toilet nearest our site, but we figured out quickly that the flush toilets with sink and showers adjacent to site #5 wasnât that much further and worth an extra few minutes. We spent 6 nights here, which wasnât long enough to explore the nearby creek, Lassen National Park and Lake Almanor. The best part about Mill Creek Resort are proprietors Joe and Jillian, who were super hospitable and enthusiastic. They have recently purchased the resort and are committed to making improvements to facilities and the property. We peeked in a few of the cabins, which are really quaint and well appointed. The restaurant was basic American fare but delicious â breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and best of all, milkshakes and local draft beer. We look forward to returning to stay in one of those cute cabins next time. Thank you Joe and Jillian!

Past trip
in Maple Creek Ranch, CaliforniaWe just spent 3 amazing nights at Maple Creek Ranch. What a beautiful property! The host, Ron and his wife, were so friendly and hospitable. We stayed at one of only 2 campsites on the property and it felt super private. The property is well maintained and the campsites each have a fire ring with adjustable height grill and a picnic table. They just recently added a VERY nice bathroom with flush toilet specifically for the 2 campsites. The mosquitos have been bad this season, so Ron already had a screened tent set up for us to use and we definitely needed it a couple evenings when the mosquitos were at their peak. The pond set up is really cool, and the kids LOVED seeing the tadpoles and turtles and paddling the canoe around. We hiked around the property and explored a creek and followed the train track. A fun adventure for all. We will definitely be back!

in Mill Creek Resort, CaliforniaThree G Familia Farm
in The 3 G Familia Farm, CaliforniaMy family of 4 plus dog just had a great weekend at 3 G Familia Farm. It was a very busy weekend there, and we had messaged in advance that our dog is really anxious. Bob was totally responsive via messaging with our concerns, and Chris even called us the morning of arrival to confirm and describe where our site would be. They placed us in an overflow spot tucked behind the other sites. It wasn't technically a spot but they brought in a mobile fire pit. We actually loved our site because it felt really private, and our dog barely saw anyone else and only barked a couple times with people walking past on the adjacent trail. There are definitely certain spots that are REALLY close to each other and others that are tucked into the trees a bit. The main clearing, with sites #1-10, doesn't provide much privacy. In addition to each site having their own fit pit, there is a larger group firepit in the main clearing, so the vibe in this area is a lot more communal. We will totally come back here â what a beautiful, unspoiled section of the California coast. The Coastal Access just south of the property was dog friendly and pristine. We drove and didn't hike the trail from the property with 2 smaller kids, and from the parking lot it was still about a mile through the dunes. Totally worth it because there was barely anyone there with us all day!
