This spot is best for a van camp location but plenty of space for tents and hammocks. You'll find a drive-up deck if you wish to park there. Firewood is available providing you use downfalls as kindling in the stone fire pit. A 8x20' deck and picnic table are 20 feet from the fire for stargazing. When the ferns are full grown they are 3 feet tall and everywhere. A 10 minute walk takes you through a dense pine forest with large rock formations and a nice creek with many gurgling fall areas. If there looks like a cave amongst the large rocks, then it probably is a bear den. There is a lot to do near by. Some note worthy locations : Cranberry Glade Lake (good for kayaking or fishing), Ohiopyle, 7 Springs, Fallingwater, Living Treasures, Caddie Shak, and Hidden Valley are all about 25 minutes away. This property also borders Laurel Ridge State Park. There is a Dollar General and a gas station about 15 minutes away for convenience needs.

Our property was once an overgrown field that in the past was strip mined for coal. This area was purchased by a local church congregation and has been transformed into a fun, peaceful picnic/recreation area. We enjoy using this area for picnics, birthday/graduation parties, family reunions and other fun, meaningful events. We have even had a few weddings here. Recently we decided that we want to give more people the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful, serene area. My father tells stories of it being filled with guests all summer long! Over the years there was few upgrades and now it's in need of a facelift. Landscaping, electric upgrades and bathhouse remodels were completed Spring 2021. We will continue to renovate in phases it's been a labor of love, but you can still see the beauty of this rural location and enjoy the peace and quiet. Hope you enjoy your stay. Lots of trees, shade and nature. It's located near New Germany State Park, 1.5 miles by car, less than a mile by foot. The state park has a lake and hiking trails. It’s a short drive to the Susquehanna River and other parks. You can also enjoy the cows, goats, peacocks, chickens, ducks, and turkeys at the farm. Contact the host and set up a time to visit and feed the animals. Learn more about our family farm and the animals. We also have a sawmill and wood shop. Nearby is Bilgers Rocks, Rock Run Atv Park, Prince Gallitzin State Park, the Susquehanna River, and many other fantastic outdoor activities. It’s a place to unwind and relax. And connect with nature. This is in a very rural part of Pennsylvania and camping in the winter weather can be difficult. So please prepare yourself with additional sleeping bags for winter. The tent is heated but because of the unpredictable and sometimes dangerous weather you need to be prepared. The bathroom is also outdoors so there will not be a shower provided till after the freezing weather. And the loo is not heated. It is also recommended that you have all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive to get to the campsite in the winter. It is possible to walk from road to site. But you should consider this when booking. RTR is a very beautiful place in the winter but it can also be dangerous if you’re not prepared.

Robert is a great host. He knows the perfect balance of checking on his guests and giving privacy. The spot was exactly as described and in a convenient location to bike the Ghost Town Trail. If you like dive bars I highly recommend going to the Grove for dinner. We already booked our return stay this summer!

My grandson, daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Paradise at the Pond. This large camping area has wonderful vista’s of the farmland as well as the mountains behind. The owners keep firewood stocked and the grounds is well manicured grass. It’s a great place to relax and is just 15 minutes to Raystown Lake where we keep a boat. We’ve reserved 6 visits this summer and fall—just love the setup.

The site was quiet and secluded. There were other campers in the other site, but I couldn’t see them through the trees. The sites are separated by a small pond, trees, and a ravine. Tommy is super nice and checked in on his bicycle a few times to make sure I didn’t need anything. I’ll definitely be going back.

I had the pleasure of an extended stay at Jeff's camp so I am taking the opportunity to write another review! Jeff is super kind, flexible and an awesome Hipcamp host. If you get to talking to him, he will share some incredible history and prior photos of the campsite area. He's put a lot of time and dedication into making this an amazing and relaxing retreat for folks. I was fascinated to learn some historical details! The space is tranquil, private and has all of the basics anyone would need at camp. Not to mention there's plenty of room for a large group or for kids and/or pets to run and play (with staying cautious around the train tracks). For anyone passing through on the bike trail it is not far at all and would make a great overnight stop. There are very nearby provisions in town (Smithton) at a little market. For travelers there is an RV dump and hot showers (towels/washcloth provided) right up the road at Flying J truck stop. Walmart and groceries are about 10 minutes away in nearby Belle Vernon. Some nearby attractions include Smithton Beach for swimming, Bloom brewery in West Newton (with some great pizza shops, Fox Pizza being my favorite), Vinoski winery, Round Hill animal park in nearby Elizabeth (good for kids), and if you're up for the trip, Kennywood amusement park or the city of Pittsburgh.

Jim’s campsite was awesome. Just a short walk to a beautiful creek, and the whole site felt private and peaceful. Everything was clean and well kept, which made the stay even better. Our doxin loved running the paths that were cut through the property. My wife and I had a great time and will definitely be back!

Very excellent campsite we loved our stay clean, welcoming, and peaceful. We found a cute turtle with a missing limb the owner assured us that he is a strong turtle who has been around for a long time if you see the turtle say hi for us! The owner was nice enough to check on us after some wildlife was spotted nearby we really appreciated the concern. Overall a safe campsite that we would recommend every time.

Very beautiful place to spend the night! Arrived late in the night and still had no issues finding where to go(thanks to the YouTube orientation video). Campsite was very clean and well taken care of. The common area was fantastic and the coffee was super convenient after I realized I forgot to pack my own.

2 nights at Cheat View Outpost

Absolutely loved camping here even in the snow. The property was gorgeous and T1 was very private. Location was great for hiking with Snake Hill wildlife management area right down the road. Tommy was an excellent host, replied very quickly and was very generous. Would recommend, definitely going to return in the summer for the swimming hole.
