Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. The rich history of Burnhead Grazings is enveloped in a love for God's creation. Dr. Gib and Emmy Lou McLaughlin purchased Burnhead, which is Gaelic for the head of the stream, from William H. Stevens. The once pasture for Hilltop Dairy's cows became a pasture for sheep. Gib and Emmy had been in search of land for years after getting their first border collie and falling in love with the Shepherd lifestyle. Gib trained dozens of border collies to work the sheep and did hundreds of demonstrations highlighting the herding abilities of the collie across the country. Their love for Scotland and the border collie took them Scotland on many occasions. Burnhead Grazings is a snapshot of Scotland, "in bye" or close to, the beautiful college town of Indiana, PA. Less than two miles from two hotels, three miles from downtown, and within minutes from Amish country, it is amazing that this respite still exists so close to civilization. Gib and Emmy's daughter, Moire McLaughlin Bridges and her husband Randy have endeavored to bring the sheep back to Burnhead Grazings and to continue the family tradition as well as to share in the experience. You can listen to an interview on The Christian Witness Program on this page for some history about Moire and Randy in Tennessee where they were residing before coming to Indiana. They are producing lamb, wool for spinning and felting, and hay and are opening up the farm for small events such as weddings or family reunions. Moire is also the author and illustrator of a children's book available for sale on iBooks called Sissy & The King. In November of 2014, with the help of Hilltop Baptist Church and many others, they began hosting an event, LIFE Nativity, the weekend before Thanksgiving, which benefits Life-Way Pregnancy Center. Moire is also a fine artist and gives classes on wool felting. Ask about signing up for a class or book a private felting party.

Just renovated for winter camping! Completely sealed up and draft free. Still a very primitive site, but the interior now keeps in the warmth from the fireplace. A set of bunk beds and a4 seat table as well as some could makes it work for up to 6 people. Plenty of tent area around of you have a bigger group! Sunnyday's farm and forest was a Christmas tree farm in the 1950's. I've owned it for the last 30 years and it is now a horse farm with pastures and woods. Rustic area of 25 acres of pastures and forest bordering a hundred of acres of railroad and municipal forest. Great for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking. 1.5 miles from Deer Lakes park which has fishing, hiking, mountain biking, frisbee course and a great playground. The Allegheny river, judged to be one of the cleanest in the country, is just 6 miles away. Harrison Hills park offers great hiking along the river and an occasional river otter. The Rachel Carson Trail and Baker trail are just a few miles away. It is a secluded log cabin in the woods on top of a hill overlooking a pasture. It is a very primitive cabin with a fireplace, brick floor, large porch, fabric interior and no chinking in the logs. We provide a bunk bed and cots and 2 picnic tables.. There is a large grassy area in front of the cabin for tents. There is no vehicle access, no electricity and no water at the cabin, but LOTS of downed wood for fires. There are horses, goats, chickens, ducks and a pig that roam the pastures. The cabin is about 300 yards from the parking area up a fairly steep hill, but the location is worth the walk! If you're stopping with an RV or trailer we have ample parking near the road and have overnight accommodations for horses Great place for a stopover.

Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land. The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river. If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. Take the trail to “High Bluff”, then cross the Snyder property line (Permission for trail access only – do not leave trail!), then descend down and cross the bridge across Herrington Manor Creek (a stocked trout stream!). Wild Yough property is to your right along the river and there is a great place for lying in the sun, doing some fishing, or just wading into the cool waters of the Yough on a hot summer day.Learn more about this land:The idea is simple- our glamping site will offer a true camping experience without all the hassles and fuss.
