Our 65 acre farm is secluded and peaceful. We have a small pond with catfish, bluegill, large mouth bass (catch and release only) and a gentle creek. We have chickens, sheep, a pig, cows and diary goats. Enjoy a walk down to the pond and take a picture by the old farm house (from the early 1800's) or explore history in the cemetery. You could also take the kids for a hike in the forest and search for mushrooms. At the end of the day you can kick back by the fire pit, stargaze and make some s'mores. Our cabin (converted shed) offers a queen size bed and a sofa sleeper, fire pit, charcoal BBQ, AC/HEAT, keurig coffee pot, Wood chip toilet and privacy!Farm experience tour available upon request by appointment.We also have an RV hookup with family campers about 100yds from the cabin.

Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

Staying at Walnut Cabin offers peace and nature connection. Located on a 7 acre homestead near the Blueridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail and Lynchburg, VA. The cabin is located on an old apple orchard and budding homestead. It is off-grid and powered by solar. It is a short walk from the parking area (75 steps uphill). The cabin is one room with a kitchenette, hot outdoor shower, and outdoor compost toilet. The cabin can sleep up to three people with a queen bed, futon, and pullout couch. The kitchen includes a gas range, mini fridge, a sink with running water, and basic kitchen cook wear. A propane heater is available for extra warmth on a chilly night. A shelf equipped with books and board games. A propane grill sits on the front porch, and a fire pit out front. The hot outdoor shower and compost toilet are 25 steps from the front door tucked into the tree line. The pond sits in front of the cabin, a picnic table sets by the edge. We love living simply, and immersed in nature, and have designed the space for others who also share this passion. We often see deer, turkey, bear, fox, and coyote. Maybe you will too! You will love reading your book by the pond while listening to the frog chorus, and taking your evening shower while gazing upon the ancient oaks. Our location is 15 minutes from the Appalachian Trail and James River access. The Jefferson Washington National Forest is nearby and offers opportunities for visiting waterfalls, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and paddling. Downtown Lynchburg is 20 minutes away with great restaurants, farmers markets and shopping. We are a growing homestead. We are planting fruits trees, cultivating shiitake mushrooms, raising ducks and tending gardens here and have farm fresh products that are seasonally available to guests just ask! This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.)  We also have a tree house which has AC, heat and electrical connection.     You may camp anywhere on the property.  There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there. What a lovely piece of land. Unique is an understatement. We loved all the bridges, short hiking trails, and the SUPER rare sulphudic cave right on the property. We stayed at "Top of the Rock II" and only have good things to say about the little cabin. You are literally camping at the top of the waterfall, just incredible. Toilet/Bathroom Situation: - there are two pristine portajohns just a 30 second walk away from the site - if you have a more urgent situation, they did outfit the cabin with a bucket toilet (honestly, it was about as classy as a bucket toilet can get) - it was hidden beneath a wooden toilet box with proper liners In the receptacle) Shower Situation: - They have a shared "lounge" in a small trailer where you can access an indoor toilet, running water, and a heated indoor shower. - The shower left a bit to be desired, the shower didn't drain particularly well, but at least the water was hot. Kitchen: - there is a private picnic table outside of the cabin with a wooden cupboard that contains a bunch of cutlery, plates, lighters, and even a butane camp stove

I needed a place to stay on my way to Tennessee from New York and Roni’s place was the perfect location. The sheets and pillowcases on the bed were freshly washed and it was such a bonus to have a small heater and air conditioner as it was hot during the day and got chilly at night. I met Roni on the day I was leaving and she is such a wonderful person. She made sure we knew how to get there before hand, as you don’t have service on your way to the site. It is worth noting that there is no service there, however, you can connect to the Wi-Fi near Ronnie‘s house and take a short walk to get a few bars. There are other dogs and people on the property in close proximity, however it still felt very private when we were in the treehouse and we even had one of the neighbors dogs be our guide when we took a walk would definitely stay again!

Thunder BRidge is such a cool spot. The sites are beautiful and you have tons of privacy. The pavilion by the bath house was a cool place to spend a rainy day. My kids absolutely fell in love with ping pong. Waking up in the screened cabin and feeling the breeze and hearing birds chirping restores the soul!

Weekend Trip to Thunder BRidge

This was my third or fourth stay at Thunder BRidge Campground and it’s been a great experience every single time. We stayed in one of the cabins this trip and loved it—plenty of room both inside and outside the cabin to spread out and relax. The trail along the creek is a great little walk, and the shower and bathroom facilities were clean and well kept. We also had a great time hanging out at the pavilion playing cornhole in the evenings. I do a lot of road trips, so I rarely stay anywhere for more than one night or visit the same place twice. Between Devil’s Marbleyard and Thunder BRidge Campground, this is the one place we make a point to stay for the entire weekend and come back to every single year. Honestly, we wish we had time to visit twice a year. Being less than 10 minutes from Devil’s Marbleyard makes it the perfect base camp for the area. This was actually the first year we bought campground t-shirts because we were so happy with our stay. Honestly, if they had stickers, I’d absolutely have one on my van already. Can’t say enough positive things about this place.

We stayed two nights in the treehouse while in the area for an event. We didn’t get to take full advantage of the property since we left in the mornings and arrived after dark both days, but enjoyed the time we spent there! We planned to camp at first, but the treehouse seemed like a better bet since the temperatures were cool in mid-April. It was at least ten degrees warmer inside than outside, which was perfect (so no need to even turn the heat on during our stay.) The mattress and bedding were comfortable and cozy. Everything was very quiet and peaceful. Roni was quick to answer questions and was very friendly and helpful. Neat little place and would definitely return!

Butterfly 1 was so clean and the camp beds are SO comfy! The privy had zero stink, no daddy longlegs, super clean and well-stocked; the bathhouse was clean and well-maintained- both kept my OCD in check 😉 We could hear the stream from our cabin and felt like we were in the middle of the forest with all the trees and space. Adam was the consummate host, friendly, helpful. It doesn't get better.

I didn’t really know what to expect from Thunder BRidge but this place is awesome! We chose the primitive cabin. But you can’t go wrong with anything here (cabin or camping) Having the pavilion and bath house nearby to use was helpful so you can either fully ‘rough it’ or have some level of home comforts. There’s plenty of room to run around in open spaces also a cool old school obstacle course. Cannot recommend this place enough! Adam is super helpful throughout your stay if you need anything! Need camping or cabins in the Natural Bridge area, look no further than Thunder BRidge!

Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls

If you love the wilderness, being alone, exploring, and being unplugged, this place is absolutely for you. I stayed in an A-Frame cabin that had a direct view of the large waterfall. The campsite was fully equipped with absolutely everything I needed. Three different ways to cook, firepit, grill, and little stove. All of the utensils, pots and pans to cook with and dishes to eat from. A little camping toilet in the cabin. The ceilings were so amazing and the bed was very comfortable. The hosts were very VERY responsive and accommodating. I would 100% recommend this experience to anyone who needs to find themselves. It definitely provided my soul what it needed.
