Tucked into a quiet corner of our working farm called Heritage Farm, Holly Forest offers a peaceful retreat with easy access to shared amenities. Guests have access to water, electricity, and our centrally located Bathhouse, which includes showers, restrooms, and parking. Each day, we provide battery boxes for running a fan or charging small electronics.
Heritage Farm is rooted in natural, sustainable practices and hands-on learning experiences. Back to the basics, come and experience Tar River Life’s primitive camping on the Tar River.
Enjoy being on the river and listening to slow running sound of the Tar River. Bring your own tent or rent one of ours. You can drive your vehicle to all of our campsites.
The drive to camp is about 1/2 miles. Each site includes a fire pit, wood and trash bin. Cook your own meals or try and catch your own fish from the river. Campsites can be secluded or grouped.
Each site comes with a picnic table, 1 bundle of wood and trash can. Stay for a night or longer period of time, come and enjoy the outdoors with us. We have lots of walking trails, fishing access, wildlife, kayaking and tubing (must be purchased through us). 2WD vehicles are ok except during wet conditions.
There is also the Vollmer Farm, with seasonal produce a Full Coffee Shop with breakfast goodies and baked goods and not to mention their fabulous ice cream. They have goods from around NC including, eggs, honey, meats, beers, wine and more. There is a grocery store (Food Lion) about 15 minutes away. So you can stock up on supplies on your way to your next adventure.

Saint Anne's Chapel and Oak Grove Retreat Center is a unique historical venue for your next camp site in the Tarboro area of North Carolina. The farm was originally established in 1832 by the Pender Family.
On the current 25 acres is a
restored 1920s Episcopal Mission Church with parklike grounds that is maintained year-round and has a rich and interesting history. We have host a wide variety of events over the years, including weddings, receptions, meetings, retreats, drum circles, sound healing's, festivals and more. Welcome to Oak Grove - a property with a 100 year old de-consecrated Episcopal church, beautiful woods, and amazing grandfather oaks. A common site for weddings, drum circles, and other metaphysical and spiritual happenings, the property has a labyrinth, a free expression chalkboard, a Zen sand box that are free to use.
A short walk down the wooded trail brings you to a small clearing with a central fire pit and several areas suitable for a tent. Situated close to a road, traffic can be heard but easily tuned out, particularly as the road gets much quieter at night. The woods are next to a large open field that is great for star gazing. Bring your hammock!

About the Wi-Fi:
Wi-Fi is limited even with Starlink RV system. Guest will have the Wi-Fi password inside the dome upon arrival. T-Mobile, Verizon, and other networks have limited reception so plan ahead as we are an off the grid experience. Disconnecting is part of the adventure!
Each guest will have access to private parking area and wooded walkway, dome, deck area, fire pit, barbeque grill, hammock, and 3-acre pasture with pond.
Entrance codes will be shared to guests on the day arrival.
Guests will receive entrance codes for the private parking pad, gate after walking bridge, and dome red door.
Once you park in the private gravel parking area, guest can use our cart to haul all your glamping getaway items from the parking area through the wooded entrance and pasture to the dome. The dome is approximately 500ft away from the private parking area.

This was my second time at Holly Forest- stayed in two different units and had a great experience both times. Jim and Becky are so welcoming and attentive to details. Even on a cold December night we were warm in The Lodge with the heated mattress pad. Thanks for having us!

We stayed at this cabin at Holly Forest for a few nights over thanksgiving. The cabin held our little family (2 adults 2 young kids) well on the loft bed and the pull-out couch. The grounds are beautiful and we had a ton of fun at the basketball court and the field next to it. We cooked food in the provided toaster oven/air fryer but could have easily used the common area equipment too (grill, griddle pan, pizza oven). Hosts were responsive to our needs. Bathrooms were clean and close to our cabin. We would come back!

It was quite cold at night but we were given a space heater and the mattress had heating pads on both sides of the bed. The common areas had large space heaters and the showers gave us super nice hot water. It was so very cozy. We enjoyed fishing on their pond. The bathroom was so close to the lodge, we really didn’t need the golf cart they gave us, but it was fun to have anyways. They had huge jackery batteries that they made sure were full daily. This was genuinely a glamping experience. I loved it because we still definitely felt like we were “camping” just with high end amenities. We envisioned the entire space would be so perfect for any kind of weekend event just with all the different facilities within the sight.
We stayed with our pups and they loved seeing the cows in the morning!! First time we took them camping and they did so great. We had a great stay :)

We stayed at the screen house for one night and wish we could have stayed another night. The screen house itself was top notch… secluded yet close to the main area, clean, well maintained, and cozy. Jim and Becky did a great job of adding conveniences to the experience with heated beds, battery for charging, lighting, cooler with ice, bathhouse, cooking area with seating, and more. There are a few different options for accommodations including glamping tent, screen houses, and a cute little cabin with a loft. This is a great place for a group. They can cook together and enjoy the community space, very cozy. We will be back.

I loved the little screen house "The Retreat" that my wife and I stayed in! It was amazingly beautiful from the clear roof to the full open concept. Don't get me wrong there were privacy and blackout curtains to draw for privacy lol. Jim and Becky and their family are just amazing, and so is the property. Everything is so easy and convenient not to mention your own golf cart to wonder around on and get back forth from your place to the bathroom's, and the gathering place. They have a bull that is a BBQ grill and the smoke comes out of the nose, a long with a pizza oven a gas grill and flat top at your disposal. They also have some items there that you can purchase like pizza kits and wood, ect. They also host events and weddings!! All of their rentals are spread out for privacy of each other.

Oak Grove Retreat is truly a special place!!! I feel a profound sense of happiness and tranquility when I am there. The hosts consistently provide friendly service and create a welcoming atmosphere. The grounds are always well maintained, featuring beautiful moss covered trails, seasonal gardens and a lush forest. I have also enjoyed participating in several events there over the last few years and look forward to my next visit.

The Lodge was fantastic. Rustic but comfortable. It was nestled in the woods and close to everything. The property is beautiful. There are plenty of views and things to do. The hosts have thought if everything. Battery packs provide power for phones, fans, etc. A filled ice chest was provided for us upon arrival. Complimentary water, coffee, and tea. A large area for parties, a charcoal grill (In a steer sculpture, lol), small gas grill, and a pizza oven! Outdoor games, basketball, horseshoe pits, cornhole... They even have bamboo fishing poles for the pond!

Amazing! My daughter and I had SUCH a fun, relaxing experience! The property has lots to do, is beautiful, cabins are awesome and clean, and we felt safe! I loved “The Retreat” on Jim & Becky’s land. This site is like a “camping venue” I can envision a small wedding or a couples trip here. They have a gas grill if you don’t know how to charcoal grill and the shower gets really hot. I like how they also inform us if there are others staying anywhere else in any of the other cabins so it helped give others privacy and not explore “too far”.
