Looking for some peace and quiet? Up for an adventure with rustic camping? Our property was once part of a much larger business farm. It has not been under a tractor since 2010, except for mowing. We have been hosting for HipCamp since 2019 and we are eager to meet you and hear what you think of our acres.  The gorgeous sunsets over Lake Ontario are world renowned, and our primitive camp sites are just one half mile from the lake.  The terrain is hilly, elevation ranges from 320' - 380'.  Due to the location on the hill, great views of the spectacular sunrise can also be seen (from the ground) and pretty much most of the sunsets. Excellent opportunities for bird watching, we have seen everything from goldfinches to bald eagles, with sightings of indigo buntings, sparrowhawks, snow and Canada geese, according to season. Wildflowers, berries and herbs are in abundance, when in season. Being right near the fourth largest Great Lake the campgrounds is a great spot for cloud watching, kite sailing and star viewing - there is no light pollution.  Fresh water divers?  There are dozens of sunken shipwrecks in Lake Ontario and, NOAA national marine sanctuary in eastern Lake Ontario to protect historically significant shipwrecks and maritime heritage resources. Oh, and did I mention the world class fishing? Co-owner, Valerie, is a permaculturist and welcomes conversation about anything environmental.  The flattest part of the hill was once under cultivation but since 2010 has been allowed to revert to woodlands.  I farm trees, the only animals here will be the ones that Nature sends (or if you bring a pet). Fruit and nut trees have been planted, as well as some berries, so since 2010 they are not very large.  My trees are very important. Please take care not to injure them. Seasoned firewood is plentiful from the prunings as well as from deadfall and extra can be purchased at the farm - $6. per bundle.  (Per New York State DEC regulation, untreated firewood may not be moved over 50 miles.)  There is a working rocket mass heater in the barn and it will be fired up and roaring between October and April.  Knitting and crocheting lessons are yours for the asking.  Co-owner, William, may also be persuaded to show you some guitar licks.  Children 12 and under are discounted 50% off. Children under 2 are free. At the edges of the property you can see neighbors' houses but campsites are secluded from the neighbors as well as from each other. All campsites are drive in but you may be driving across a mown field. Sterling Nature Center (Great Blue Heron rookery!) and Sterling Renaissance Festival are each 4 miles away.  Gas station and farm store (Ontario Orchards -- great home-baked pies there!) are each 3 miles away. Sterling Creek Canoe- Kayak Launch - 3.5 miles.  Fair Haven Beach State Park and Little Sodus Bay - 7.5 miles.  City of Oswego and NY State University - 6 miles. And, if you are of that persuasion, the nearest McDonald's and Subway are 7 miles and Walmart is 10 miles away. Because I could be anywhere on the property and I would like to be available when you arrive, please advise me if you know you will be arriving after 5 PM.  All revenue from camping goes back into the property to continue to improve your experience. While we are open to winter camping, the farm road is on a hill that must be navigated to reach the campsites. In snowy or icy (or extremely muddy) conditions this may prove impossible for a typical vehicle and even give some 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles some trouble. There is room at the bottom of the hill for off road parking for one vehicle. It would then require hiking up about 500 feet to reach campsites. Also, when the weather is dropping below freezing (which could be between late October -- early May), you are advised to bring your own water as water left overnight will freeze. Please take responsibility for the energy you bring to this space. Campfires are encouraged but bonfires are not allowed. If you are unsure, just ask. This is also a 'leave nothing but footprints' campsite. We do not have trash removal. Thorndon Meadows acknowledges we are on native land originally inhabited by the Cayuga (Guyohkohnyoh – The People of the Great Swamp) of the Haudenosaunee  Confederacy who were scattered by European settlers in the early 1800’s.  We honor their stewardship and those who care for the land generations after.  This land is not ours, it is our turn, and we are grateful to share it with our guests.  We are committed to learning and protecting the land as its temporary caretakers.  We invite you to appreciate the land with us, all are welcome.

There is a dock, fishing, picnic table and deck, and fire pit, you will have the entire area to yourself and can set up camp whenever you would like. About the Property: Our unique property boasts peaceful camping on a beautifully manicured MotoTrials Riding and Obstacle Play Course. 2025 marked our first year offering camping to the public, and we look forward to HipCampers joining us in our unique venue. All 4 camping sites are nestled into the Obstacle course. Trials riders and non-Trials Riders alike will find much to enjoy here. Campers unfamiliar with Trial are welcome to take advantage of a Lesson on one of our Rental Bikes, while the Obstacle Course is also super-fun on foot (for walks or runs), mountain bike, trials bicycle, or for playing with your RC toy! We have night lighting to turn on at your request, even if just to sit in the evening and enjoy the lights reflecting off the pond-We surely do! We are located on NY 38 but our traffic is not obnoxious (Log and Milk Trucks, Farm Tractors and Commuters). It is very peaceful here. Your camping can be as private and leisurely as you wish. The views and big sky are gorgeous in our corner of farm country. Our small pond (tho not suitable for fishing or swimming) provides entertainment w/ turtle sunbathing raft and lots of nature's visitors. Pets always welcome off-leash with your guidance. About the Trials Riding: Sundays are a practice day or Event day. We host 4 Mototrial Events each season (see below) and if spectating appeals, you can plan your trip to coincide. You're in for a treat if you've never seen these nimble motorcycles do their 'thing'... up, over, and around the obstacles. Events are busy and exciting, but no worries (!) trials bikes are not loud. Riders are friendly and considerate. If spectating not your thing- no worries. Non-event/non-practice days are quite laidback. If Trials riders come here for additional practice (or instruction) it's not loud or invasive, nor interferes with any camper training or play on the course. When riders are here (barring Events or Sunday Practice ), it's typically only 2-4 at once. Multiple activities co-exist nicely, as there is plenty of room for all. The property is in perfect condition and has all of the amenities. You can tell that Ken takes enormous pride and operating a high-quality facility. I forgot to mention in my last review that I bought some filet mignon at the farm Market, and we grilled them the next night. They were awesome, tender, and delicious.

Very large site. Level pad. This is by far the best rv camp we've stayed at. It's fairly new and well groomed. I'm reluctant to gush how great it is because once it is well known it will be hard to get reservations. :)

Beautiful property, well maintained. Great, easy hiking trails. And, the baby goats! Our full hookup site was spacious and easy in/out. The owner, Ken, even stopped by to make sure everything was alright.

The site was clean, flat, and beautiful open space. We had water, electric, and sewer hook up. There was a picnic table and a fire ring. The weather was beautiful, one day of rain and what a blessing that was since it is so very dry here. We did not get to have a fire due to higher winds. We had a wonderful vacation!

This is my second stay at Yost Ridge. Nice view of the sky for stargazing down by the fire pit. Water and electricity are well placed and work perfectly. EASY to maneuver my teardrop to exactly the right spot. Looking forward to staying here again. Dawn is very friendly and responsive.

Weekend Trip to Yost Ridge in the Finger Lakes

This was our second time staying here. It is a lovely place. We appreciate the available electric hookup, drinking water and rv sewer dump. The site is level and could fit at least two moderate sized rvs. The view is beautiful and peaceful. There are houses on either side but both neighbors are quiet. There are dogs, goats, ducks and roosters at the one house, which can make for some occasional animal sounds, but we enjoyed the variety. The stars and sunset and sunrise are beautiful from the property. Both stays here were quite windy, but both stays were also in spring. We love the mowed trails through the tall grass as a nice place to walk the dogs.

Weekend Trip to Tilden Hill Farm

Ken was a wonderful host at Tilden Farms. It was our first time staying there, and our first time using HipCamp so we really didn’t know what to expect. Our 2 year old LOVED seeing the miniature goats. We went for a nice walk around the property and purchased some black angus from the freezer. Steaks and ground beef were DELICIOUS! We travel to NH usually once or twice a year. We will definitely be using this as our halfway point for all future travel. Thanks again Ken! Ashley, Andrew and Everett

We loved Dawn's property. It has beautiful views and a nice fire pit. Great to find someplace remote with full hookups too. We also saw Amish with their horses pulling farm equipment down the road several times. I highly recommend this site.

We loved camping at Yost Ridge. The site was beautiful and easily fit two travel trailers. The views were amazing and it’s very peaceful and quiet but still close to multiple wineries and breweries and other activities. Dawn was a fantastic host and we’ll definitely be staying here again! Highly recommend.

I Enjoyed my weekend at the farm. The trails were really easy to get to, well marked and pleasant to hike on. There were other campers nearby but overall it was very quiet. Would definitely go there again.
