This is a 3rd generation "Family Farm" of a different sort I suppose. Seems there's a bit of everything here, and arguably not enough of anything. At least for conventional farming. So we've learned to do things a bit differently.Our main crop is wine and juice grapes since our topography, climate, and soil type makes it a premier location for that. But with 30+ acres of forested hillsides, low ground, and natural areas we've evolved into a mixed farm and forest enterprise. Our goal is to utilize the productivity of all our property while still retaining the basic character and usefulness of the wild areas. Letting each thing be what it wants to be and does best on it's own. Flow, not force.So our year starts early with tapping maple trees and making maple syrup. Plus there's grape trimming about this time as well. When the forest floor starts to green up a bit later, we start digging Ramps, or Wild Leeks in the woods. Most of these will go to the more trendy Chicago restaurants, but we also have some local sales. Next comes inoculating winter-cut logs with Shiitake spawn for next years mushroom production. This year we also conducted a few hands-on workshop seminars on mushroom growing as well. Then it's on to our raised bed herb & veggie gardens. (Fresh herbs are just so much fun to cook with!) We grow enough for our own yearly use, as well as some for direct sales. Summer keeps us busy tending all the different crops here and trying to keep up. But there's that steady progression of fresh veggies to eat. Yum !!! Fall brings our annual Grape U-Pick in September and October. And we try to time related crops like mums, pumpkins, and gourds for this same time frame. Makes the place a bit more interesting. Late fall is when we bring in firewood to heat the house and workshop. Stacks of wood everywhere. Hopefully before the 1st snow. In winter it's time to fire up the woodworking shop and be a bit creative. Build furniture, equipment maintenance, who knows what next years projects will include. I like to keep everybody guessing.So, that's what goes on here. You're welcome to check it out, lend a hand, relax back at camp, walk the vineyards and/or forest, or just breathe and relax. That's up to you. But I would recommend visiting a few of the fine local wineries. Seems there's a festival going on at one or another of them just about every weekend. Good music, good wine, good times. And there's the Lake Michigan beaches a few miles down the road.Yeah, this is a pretty casual place here, love meeting new people, very open to civil discussions of all sorts.However, rude, ill mannered people will probably enjoy staying elsewhere. Thank you for stopping to look at our Hipcamp, The Mannex — short for the Man’s Annex, since I have a pole barn with my tools and toys on this property. This is my second year hosting campers, and my first year was such a hit that I decided to raise the bar for our guests. We really enjoyed meeting everyone who came through and helping them visit the beautiful Indiana Dunes National Park, which this campsite sits right inside of. Because of our prime location inside the Dunes National Park boundaries and how nicely this camp is set up, I’m confident this is one of the best Hipcamps in Northwest Indiana by a long shot! The Mannex is a couple-acre property located between HWY 12 and the South Shore Tracks (an electric interurban train). There’s a station just 0.4 miles to the west for quick day trips to Chicago! We are 1.4 miles from the beach. Bring bikes so you can lock up at the beach and skip the parking hassle — spots are tough to get in summer, and you’ll need a National Park parking pass. We’ve upgraded the site with an improved firepit, two Trex chairs, and a side table. There are two 13’ Pawleys Island two-person hammocks, string lights on a timer and dimmer, running water, 30-amp RV service, and 110v power. A lockbox has amenities: area guide, bug spray, extension cords, fire starters, matches, lanterns, Frisbees, footballs, and bean bags for cornhole. Seasoned firewood is included (please use the wire mesh dome on the pit). We also have a Trex octagonal picnic bench, and new this year — a deluxe flushable outhouse with sink so you don’t have to fill your holding tank. Because of that, we now welcome tent campers too! Aside from hiking the dunes and enjoying the beaches, the Mannex is centrally located to lots of great spots. Beverly Shores is an Official Bird Town USA and a hotbed for birdwatching — you might even spot our local celebrities, a mated pair of Bald Eagles and their eaglet! Good eats nearby at The Goblin and Grocer (family-friendly with a great bar and outdoor seating) and Joe & Freddie’s to the east with excellent bar food. We hope you come enjoy a stay at The Mannex and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore!

We are 13 minutes from South Haven and Lake Michigan, 30 minutes from the city of Kalamazoo and just under an hour from Grand Rapids. Those of you who have visited in the past will notice that we significantly downsized this year. Due to Township and State regulations, we are now limited to offering only four campsites unless we get licensed, which at this time is cost prohibitive. So, we have selected the four most highly rated sites and upgraded them, to truly make your experience here special. About half of the 20 acres is wooded, with walking trails around the property, to include our fish stocked pond and a little tributary of the Black River. All sites have a fire ring, or metal fire pit, and picnic table. We have an outdoor propane shower that provides both hot and cold water. A free refreshment bar is available 24/7. Feeling a little peckish before breakfast, or after dinner? Help yourself to a snack and a hot or cold drink. You are welcome to collect eggs for breakfast and fresh produce from our gardens (for a fee). We are a working farm and registered as two Non-Profits. One an animal rescue, primarily working with cats. At any given day we have 20-30 cats roaming around the farm. All are under the care of our vet, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and treated for fleas and ticks. All important because they will want to interact with you. Some will want to sleep with you. Our 100 plus flock of poultry, comprised of chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys, free range during the day, so leave the Prada's at home. If you are staying at Sam's Place, your closest neighbors will Penelope and Petunia, our two female sister pigs. The prevailing winds are down from your site, but you may hear them squabble. Our herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats will love your attention and treats we can provide. Arriving in March is Jack, a miniature donkey...we are very excited! Please try to check-in by 8pm. The hosts went above and beyond during our short stay. Assisting with camper issues, recommending a mobile repair tech (that we used and was very professional and timely), and just generally being very nice and accommodating. Earl & Lisa are caring hosts, that checked on us and made sure we were set and had what we needed, including restocking our firewood and picking up some ice for us. The full hookup site was large enough for our 32’ pull behind toy hauler & 3/4 ton pickup. The bathrooms and shower (hottest water) were clean and well supplied. The site is nestled into a lovely area on the back of their property. There was some highway noise, but not enough to bother our sleep. We enjoyed campfires and gazing at the stars. We would definitely stay here again!

Great site and all of them looked amazing. We stayed at the one electrical site and worked great. It’s next to the restrooms and shower. Very clean and the pond is wonderful. Earl and Lisa were great and keep a very tidy camp. Highly recommend staying here

2 nights at Forest Haven RV Park and Campground

Very nice RV camp with full hookups. We brought our teardrop and two dogs. Picturesque lake that we definitely would have paddled on if it was warmer. Bathrooms are very nice and clean. Good walking trails in the woods. The camp had a variety of seasonal RV campers, some short term, and a few tent campers in the separate tent area closer to the lake. Will definitely stay again!

Oh man! What an amazing place. Great private spot, great host, very accommodating and friendly, would 100% stay here again. Definitely a back in site as advertised we had a 30 foot travel trailer. But It was not too bad to navigate. Concrete drive and level. Very quiet the whole week. Duck hunting season was happening during our visit so the mornings but I actually enjoyed listening to that in the morning while walking the dog. Great outdoors experience, quiet neighborhood

Weekend Trip to Sleek Acres

Was a wonderful place to rest our weary bodies after 12 days on road. Last stop before home. Earl and Lisa's place is wonderful. Park like setting with duck pond, stacks of wood waiting for us, and cute out house with shower and toilet. We were only ones there due to end of season and had full hook up site and it was perfect. Little road nose but really didn't really bother us.

Lovely little campsite in a park like setting with duck pond and deer. Located very close to US 30 yet reasonably quiet. Hosts are accommodating and helpful. Stayed at the full hookups site. Host mentioned more hookup sites becoming available soon. Sites have ample space between them which is welcome.

We absolutely loved our stay. Earl and Lisa are very sociable and want to guarantee that you have what you need while also having a great stay. They provide you a lovely stack of wood, a food grate to cook your food on, stocked pond for catch and release fishing, games, food for feeding the fish and ducks and a bathhouse. Glow sticks and popsicles were provided during our stay which brings out the kid in even us adults. There is a bit of road noise…but it’s too enjoyable out there to complain about that.

Tammy greeted my dog and I upon arrival and was very kind. She gave clear instructions and had a very nice area for us to camp. We were woken in the morning by the rooster which my dog was very amused by. The road is near enough the campsite to hear at night but the noise offers nice ambient sound.

can't say enough good about this amazing place!! quiet,secluded, beautifully landscaped, there's a small pond full of fish that you can feed, hosts supply plenty of feed!! there's ducks to watch as well. they offer a very nice shower house to use as well. the hosts are absolutely the nicest! they dropped off fresh cucumbers and cherry tomatoes from their garden. ran into a small problem with my rig and they were more than willing to pitch in and lend a hand. 100% recommend!! 5 stars!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had a very pleasant experience at Forest Haven Camping. The grounds were clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by beautiful nature that made it easy to relax and unwind. The atmosphere was peaceful, and it truly felt like a little getaway from the busy city life. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the facilities were convenient and tidy. It’s also a wonderful place to bring a dog — plenty of space to walk, explore, and enjoy the outdoors together. Highly recommend.

I was a little skeptical seeing a place with “100%” satisfaction across 77 reviews. However, having spent two nights at Earl and Lisa’s private campground, I understood why. Earl and Lisa are very welcoming. Checked in with us every day to see if we need anything. They gave us cucumbers and tomatoes, as well as popsicles for the kids (asking me first if ok). They provided food to feed the fish, which was a pleasure for our kids. They had a very clean bathhouse. Everything was amazing. Absolutely worth visiting.

Nice place for the family. There’s a large lake/pond with water toys and a swimming pool and jungle gym for the kids plus a ping pong table, fuze ball, and pool table. There’s shade where the RV’s park and picnic tables and firepit The management staff is very helpful and friendly.

Highly recommend this stay. The dunes were so amazing and the sites were a little close together but we were there when they didn't have many reservations so it didn't bother us but I could see that being a problem.

Stayed here for the Apple Cider Century. We also stayed at Site 20 in the Rustic campground; which really is the best, but the bar is pretty low here. Not impressed with the location. VERY noisy traffic and trains all night! Hard to enjoy the wilderness with traffic nearby. The park does have a beach, but I've seen much better in northern Michigan. Probably will not be choosing this campground again.

Just a 5 minute drive away you, will find the small town of Sawyer, MI which is home to Greenbush Brewery (fantastic craft brews and food) and the excellent Sawyer Garden Center located behind it (they share a parking lot).
