I purchased this property in 2016 from the estate of Robert Masters. Mr. Master's and his family lived on this property since 1957 in the small red brick house at the road, Green Shutters Cottage, an Airbnb/VRBO. He raised chickens and cattle. The cows are the reason this property looks the way it does with it's magnificent trees. I suspect this piece of property has had cattle on it for 100+ years. Mr. Masters worked at the Historic Habersham Mill down the road as did many of the locals. I have named the farm, Sole Farm. (Sole is Italian for Sun) The house on the hill, my home, is the Villa del Sole. I look forward to having you come and enjoy this beautiful piece of land I call home. Learn more about this land: COVID-19: None of the camp sites are even in sight of one another. The sights are large enough so that you and your fellow campers can social distance from one another. I certainly respect your wishes and will social distance while packing you into your site with the tractor.  You will pull into 495 Habersham Mill Rd, Green Shutter Cottage. There is a gravel drive that goes down behind Green Shutters Cottage. There is a Hip Camp sign pointing the way. I will pick you up there with the tractor to pack you in and I will pack you out as well. Vehicles are NOT allowed on the property. You WILL get stuck. Please be courteous and respect my time and let me know when you are going to arrive so that I can be available to assist you. A breathtaking view of the distant mountains greets you as you come on to the property as well as the majestic Villa del Sole, a Tuscan style villa on top of the hill, my home. The land drops away into rolling pastures dotted with ancient trees, some 300+!. The woodlands are filled with wildlife that surround the property where you are completely isolated from the world. There are two creeks that border each side of the property and join together and flow into Lake Habersham then into the Soque, the top trophy trout stream in the southeast. The water in these streams is pure. Please respect this and bring Earth friendly soap for washing dishes. I recommend Dr. Bonner's Pure castile soap. There is a creek by each camp site. The Woodland sites and the Meadow both have streams, fire pits, benches and latrines. I will pack you into and out of your site with the tractor. I do not allow vehicles on the property. You can walked to the sites if you like. I do welcome well behaved dogs. I have two that live here with me, Buster and Rufus. They will probably come pay a visit at some point.  Depending on where you want to camp there are three possible campsites to choose from: The Meadow, 2 to 24 campers and, The Woodland site, 2 to 8, The Head Waters, 2 to 6 campers.  The Head Waters site is down next to the creek and next to a meadow, very secluded, no latrine. The Meadow is best for larger groups of 8 or more. It is is a medium size meadow with flat ground suitable for spacing a number of tents out. There is a fire pit, grill/grate and three benches. It also has a creek and a latrine. The Woodland site is suitable for 2 to 8 campers but is a bit limited on places to pitch tents. It too has a fire pit, grill/grate, benches, and a latrine. It is by far the prettiest site. It's possible to sit in the creek in areas during hot weather(shallow water and COLD!. You are not completely disconnected from the world here(WIFI) but far enough away to feel isolated and private. In the bottoms, you are nestled in the woods and can see nothing around you but forest, not even the Villa and not the other campers in the meadow. You see no neighbors, houses, lights, etc. Stargazing from on top of the hill is not to be missed. I recommend Sky Watch app. Clarkesville is close by. Ingles is close by for forgotten supplies or a Starbucks fix. Yonah Cafe is great for breakfast and specialty coffees This is a small town, rural area, quiet and slow. There is plenty more to do if you just want Sole Farm camp as a base. Tallulah Gorge is 20 minutes to the north and hiking at Panther Creek.  Alpine Helen is a 20 minute drive Many good hiking opps are close by, waterfalls, thrifting. The Chattahoochee is good for canoeing, kayaking and swimming. There are several stables that offer trail rides close by. You are allowed to walk all over the property using the mown paths but please respect the other campers and my privacy. I will be respecting yours.

Private end of road property in the Cowee Valley of Franklin NC, which is the first resupply stop along the Appalachian Trail through the Smoky Mountains. Cowee Valley is a gorgeous scenic valley with farmland and winding roads and mountains on all sides. Idyllic drive in with plenty of cows grazing, deer and wild turkey running around and amazing sunsets. Cowee Campground has newly been made into a campground, previously undeveloped. We have left most of it undisturbed to maintain the natural and peaceful nature vibes. This land is a short distance off the main roads and small/private. All tent sites are in the shaded forest and RV hookups are just a few steps away with hardwoods filling out and providing partial shade. It's a quiet area with the sounds of nature and leaves rustling. We hope you'll appreciate and enjoy the beauty and tranquility as much as we do. If you want to car/truck camp without hookups we have space for that too. Just let us know. We have a beautiful 4 bathroom bathhouse, with ADA shower and another bathroom with clawfoot tub/shower and private back deck. 2 large firepits with Andirondack chairs and a separate picnic table and grill area. There is a large communal Yoga/Event deck and covered Bar/Hangout area beneath - hammock, bar top, darts and it's own firepit as well. Plus Corn hole and Horseshoe pits for your enjoyment. We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. My wife and I had a great time in our 30 foot Class C in site 1 which was located right on the creek which was crystal clear. Saw 3 deer both days. It was very relaxing with no rd noise. There was a beautiful view looking south up into the mtns. The host Mellissa was great and offered us their local honey and fresh eggs from the chicken coop. It was fun cooling our feet in the creek and watching the stars at night. There were very few bugs and a few short hiking trails in close proximity. They also have a fishing pond. Would definitely stay there again.

If I could, I would literally live at this place. The property is gorgeous, and my site (4) was PERFECT. The site is next to the river and beautifully maintained. It’s the only tent site so it’s a separate from the RV hookups while still having access electric and water. Melissa and her husband could not have been more hospitable and attentive hosts. I was OVER THE MOON to get some fresh eggs and honey (They also have firewood). No one was checking in the day I left, so they even offered to let me stay a bit longer and chill. If you’re lucky enough to book this place, DO IT. 10/10 no notes!

Peter’s place was absolutely fantastic. Mountain view was immaculate, and the communication was top-notch from start to finish. The property had everything we needed and all the amenities you could ask for. It was the perfect balance of feeling like we were truly camping while still having the comfort and convenience of electricity. Easy access to the lake made it even better and was definitely one of the highlights of the stay. This is currently my favorite campground in North Carolina. The location is free of traffic sounds, full of stars, and hosted by great folks. Not far from Highlands, Dillard, and Franklin do plenty of options for things to do. The creek in the summer is awesome where you may see rainbow trout, Great Blue Herons, river otters, and other fauna. The eggs, honey, and firewood are perks! Full connections and great WiFi?

My wife and I came up and stayed a week. I can't imagine a better place to relax in the mountains. Melissa is a great host, very nice and helpful. It has everything I look for while camping, beauty, serenity, the sound of water, a chorus of katydids at night, wonderful shade trees (Tulip Poplars), sites far apart and private, water, electricity, sewer, no views of houses, no road noise, clean bathrooms and showers, I could go on and on. The view from the site is the creek with a lush green hillside and the opposite view is this tiny valley homestead with gardens, chickens, beehives, old barn, log cabin. A visit to Georgia’s highest state park promises cool, fresh air and some of the best scenery in the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can take in the views from roadside overlooks or by following some of the 11 miles of hiking trails that lead past wildflowers, streams, waterfalls and forests. Circled by an easy walking trail, the park’s small lake is popular with anglers who fish for rainbow trout, catfish, and bream. Black Rock Mountain State Park Campground has 44 pitches under oaks and rhododendrons for tents and RVs, while four tent-only walk-in backcountry sites offer next-level privacy.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Reservations can be made at the Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites website or by phone.
Booking in advance is recommended for weekend campers. Reservations can be made 13 months ahead of time.
Campsites that have not been reserved in advance are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

When to go

The park is open year-round but, due to its elevation of 3,640 feet, temperatures are typically cooler than in other Georgia parks. That’s good news for summer visitors looking to escape from Georgia’s heat and humidity but, in winter, snow and ice may force some sections to close and the trails can get muddy and slippery. The park is known for its many spring wildflowers, including violets and flame azalea; early summer mountain laurel and rhododendron, and rich fall foliage.

Know before you go

RV drivers should be comfortable and experienced driving on very steep and narrow roads with tight turns.
For supplies, stop in Clayton, a 15-minute drive away.
Wi-Fi is available in the visitor center and Mellinger Center.
All pets must be on a six-foot leash and continuously attended to. Pets are not allowed in any buildings.

Don’t try to bring a travel trailer or RV longer than 20 feet, or you will have a very difficult time getting 1. To the campground itself and 2. Navigating it into a campsite in the 2nd loop which is on narrow grade.
