Chattooga Belle Farm – They Built It! By Tracy McCoy I wonder if when standing on the sprawling in upstate South Carolina, just a short hour trip from Greenville, Ed and Kitty Land heard a small still voice say, “if you build it, they will come.” While there isn't a baseball field on the property, that's about all that is lacking. Chattooga Belle Farm began as an event building set on 138 acres with a small seasonal retail store. Soon people found their way to the soon-to-be full-fledged farm and they felt it; that feeling that you've found a very special place. Peaceful, majestic and unlike any other, Chattooga Belle Farm is quite possibly the perfect place for any event and most certainly an ideal place to pledge your heart and life to another. Since the Lands opened their doors in 2010 they have come. They being families, couples, groups, the media and visitors; and they return year after year. Having been written up countless times across the southeast, US and more recently featured on The Today Show, the farm just keeps growing and getting better. With a history of growing sweet juicy apples, the soil in this part of the world has proven to be excellent for peaches, muscadines, scuppernongs, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. The farm also grows exotic fruits like persimmons, paw paws, Asian pears, figs, and more! Today, the farm offers tours for visitors which offer incredible views and a visit to their horseshoe lake. Educational in nature, the tours leave guests more in love with the land than when they arrived. The landscape is picturesque and the mountain views are truly breathtaking in every direction. The farm hosts farm to table dinners that sell out year after year. Their U-Pick fruit opportunities evolve throughout the season with something always coming in from early summer through fall. A list of available fruit is updated often on their website as is farm tour info, upcoming events and information about cabin rentals on Horseshoe Lake. The recent addition of a distillery on the farm means the fruit is grown, fermented, distilled and bottled on the farm. The distillery is open year round Monday – Saturday. Brandies, Bourbons and Whiskeys are aged in oak barrels and aged to produce some of the finest liquors made in these mountains. The farm also boasts a challenging 18-hole Disc Golf course. The course is open to the public and the cost is $3 per game or an annual pass offering unlimited games is available for only $25. The holes are placed throughout the farm enabling play even when private events are taking place on the property. The farm store is complete with fresh produce (in season), canned jams, jellies and bottled ciders. Grass-fed, natural, antibiotic-free Black Angus beef is sold in the store. The cattle are raised on pasture which produces some of the healthiest beef you can buy. Using only natural, humane and environmentally sustainable practices, the Lands and their staff raise beef as nature intended. Bringing the best to your family has never been easier. Beef is offered in a variety of cuts boxed ahead for you when you call to order. A complete list of options is offered on their website with ordering instructions. Belle's Bistro at Chattooga Belle Farm serves salads, sandwiches, burgers and soups made with the freshest ingredients possible. The bistro is open for lunch Tuesday – Sunday from April – October. Their menu includes Certified South Carolina Grown food which makes for an outstanding menu, also which can be viewed on chattoogabellefarm.com. When it comes to weddings, Chattooga Belle Farm has it all! With all-inclusive packages that offer rental items, catering, a wedding coordinator, the minister or officiant, photographer, flowers, music, bar service and even the wedding cake. The couple can customize a package or choose from their Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum packages. Getting married has never been this easy, you bring the dress and your partner and you enjoy the day! Some of the area's loveliest weddings have happened in this remarkable place! The 2017 Eclipse Festival event planned on the farm August 21 will include music, camping, great food, distillery and farm tours, craft vendors and astrology talks and it will be unforgettable. Get your tickets today at SolarEclipseFest2017.com. Ed and Kitty and the outstanding farm team welcome you and we guarantee that if you come, you'll find that you want to stay forever! Southern hospitality
The farm was so beautiful. We enjoyed lunch in the bistro and drinks at the distillery and a round of disc golf. The hosts were so kind and even gave us apples. The guys at the distillery made us feel like part of the family, true southern hospitality.

A favorite spot
This is a beautiful place to camp, and an easy trip from Atlanta. Just made our third visit, and this time only for one night. The l kids love it because of the animals, and fields to run and play. You will see visitors there to pick apples, or eat lunch, and everyone we’ve ever met on property is always friendly. Zip lining, rafting, hiking all nearby. We couldn’t ask for a better spot that’s off the beaten path, but not too far from anything!

We were supposed to stay 2 nights but unfortunately only got to stay 1. I will definitely be back and recommend this site to friends. The site had lots of room, nice picnic tables and great campfire spots. Lake was beautiful, leaves were beautiful, all around great time.

Ed and Kitty were amazing hosts! They made navigating a big place very easy and we loved every second of our stay. The farm itself is in a breathtakingly beautiful area, and we visited in October so everything was so colorful. The bistro right outside the farm had amazing food and even better views. And the distillery on the farm was the cherry on top. We stayed by the dam and we will DEFINITELY be back, I can't say enough good things about this place.

RV Site # 1 - full hookup
Great Views but Difficult to Set Up
The staff at the distillery (the site is in the parking lot of the distillery) was very friendly and attentive to our needs. The site had a beautiful view of the apple orchards and we had the place to ourselves after 6pm. It did require a great deal of maneuvering and extra leveling blocks/wood to get the camper level. It also required 3 lengths of power cord and 3 lengths of sewer hose to reach the hookups. Between their supplies and ours, we were able to make it work. Beautiful views and privacy (after 6 pm), but definitely not an easy setup. Due to the steep hill, there wasn't really a place to set up a cooktop, but we were gone a lot and ended up eating dinner out every night. So for us, that wasn't a huge deal. We noticed on day 2 of our stay that the sewer line connector (in the ground) was broken and we were not able to use the sewer hook-up, as advertised. When it was brought to the owner's attention that it needed to be repaired, he said he didn't have time to deal with it and told us to fix it. When we explained that we were on vacation and paying for the full-hook-up site and didn't feel that it was our responsibility to fix his equipment, he got rather unpleasant with us. He did end up fixing it and all was good after that. We just felt like it was an unprofessional reaction as a host. To be clear, the rest of the staff was friendly and helpful. We would probably stay here again, as a place to crash and enjoy the scenery in the evenings.

We loved staying here! We setup right by the treehouse which provided hours of entertainment for the kids. Chattooga Belle Farm is a gem of the upstate. The views are stunning, the property is beyond peaceful and the staff is incredibly friendly. The distillery is a must visit where Ben and Eric will have you laughing and enjoying your afternoon in the SC hills. We will definitely be back!

Camping with the whole famdamily
We absolutely LOVED it! We got a spot right by the tree house and the kids played so hard my daughter was telling me her legs were sore when we got home. We met up with our friends and their two kids for a little weekend getaway. It was nice to pick apples and figs. When we headed to the distillery the kids were able to play there too on some fun swings which made time with friends feel almost like we had a babysitter because the kids were just having so much fun on their own. We also had our two dogs and they have been slugs since coming home after all their sniffing and running around. We will be back for sure!

Best campsite!!
We absolutely adored this location, and I honestly couldn’t say enough wonderful things about these people and this property. The surrounding scenery was gorgeous, there was plenty of privacy, and the location options for camping were wonderful! Also, our battery died the morning we were supposed to leave, and Eric from the distillery who is the most friendly, personable, and helpful human was so kind to give us a jump as well as provide us with some much needed knowledge about our own vehicle..haha! We truly appreciate him so much, and the fact that these beautiful sites are shared with the public. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Perfect campsite
We stayed at Creekside site number 4, it was a perfect campsite. Plenty of shade, firewood, picnic table and nice flat tent sites. We never saw another person, which is just what we wanted. The creek and tree swings were a huge hit with the kids, we just let them explore the land . Directions and instructions were clear. You will definitely need 4WD on the road, which is different than the lakeside site access.

I paid $40 for a potential spot in a field. Lake almost inaccessible. You cannot play disc golf as you will loose your discs in the tall grass. No grill. Just stick to the distillery.

Such a beautiful spot to camp! The dock was lovely, and though we didn't swim in the lake the water was perfectly warm :) Felt very safe, location was quiet and clean. Would definitely recommend.

Stunning! Amazing! Can’t say enough good things! My husband was dragging his boots when I booked camping during the Georgia/South Carolina game. The second we arrived, I could tell he was intrigued. Our campsite was private, but easy to access. It was clean and came equipped with a picnic table and existing area for fires. We stayed on property the entire weekend and had plenty of things to do including apple picking, lunch at the farm store, climbing and swinging at the treehouse, grabbing a delish & perfectly strong slushy drink at the distillery, and strolling back to our tent while the sun set over the farm animals.

Second Stay-Here’s What We Learned
Second time here and were surprised we were able to get the dock site! These sites are first come first serve. Not all of the sites are near the lake so just beware you may end up next to the pasture or somewhere other than the lake. I wasn’t able to grab this site my first time here so I was excited it was open when we arrived this time! There is some road noise over the lake so if that’s an issue for you, just take note. It’ll die down after dark. Oh, make sure you take a flashlight to the outhouse even in the day because once the door is shut it’s completely dark in there! Lol! As far as local stuff, we took full advantage of the homemade bagel breakfasts at “The Gauge” coffee shop/outfitters up the road. (“Humble Pie” next door to coffee shop has amazing pizza btw!…think Mellow Mushroom but better!) The C.B. distillery is always a fun way to kill time and spend way too much money which we did! Lol! The location of Chattooga Belle is stunning and I was sad to leave. We didn’t make it to the Chattoga Belle restaurant for lunch so maybe next time. The community in Long Creek is amazing as they all seem to want to support each other. Make sure to visit “Willies Restaurant” up the road for live music and drinks if you can, too. Beautiful building and patio with a cool fire pit and a bit of history! Loved our stay at Chattoga Belle. Definitely didn’t have time to do everything we wanted so we will be back!

Awesome - even in the rain!
We found Chattooga Belle Farm by accident a few years ago and have come back at least twice a year ever since. We camp on the sites down in the woods - and honestly, don’t try to get down there without 4x4 - our friends learned that the hard way this last time around. A very appreciative shout out to Ed himself for coming to their rescue! We couldn’t have done it without him! We got monsooned on the whole time we were there - at one point the creek rose to about 6 inches from overflowing into our site. But despite it all, this little slice of heaven never disappoints. Between the bistro, distillery (shout out to Ben), Humble Pie, and The Lodge, we always managed to find shelter nearby, meet fun new friends, and our entourage of 5 huskies was always welcome. We never had any issue escaping the rain and staying close by. Finally when it did clear, we had the most amazing campfire and laughed all evening down by the creek one last time. Many good memories! Even in the rain! Thanks Ed and Kitty!

This was our second trip out here, and had a great time again! Although the weather didn’t cooperate, we got to spend some time at the distillery which was fun for the whole family. The children played on the swings outside and there’s a nice covered porch with rockers and tables. We got to see lots of animals, and pick some fruit. We will def be back again

Great time but rained out
Overall we had a great time. We made the best of the trip. Lots of rain! I think if it was not raining we would have had a way better time. We brought fishing gear and couldn’t get to the lake lots of briars wished we would have brought our small boat then again (Rain) lol 😂. The farm is beautiful, it’s quiet, the cows, horses and the alpaca were like being at home for us. We walked around the property some of course it was raining. We couldn’t make a fire but left some wood, and other fire related items for the next campers. We wished their would have been a way to have some sort of additional cover especially with it raining and needing to cook, we definitely did some primitive camping this weekend. Would have loved someone to guide you through everything before you just “found you a place” to set up camp. We got water from the distillery and wished we could have gotten some honey, ended up walking the apple fields picked us up some took it back to base camp. Next time we will bring a canopy or two for additional shelter and a Better shower tent lol ours didn’t make it in the rain. Bringing our dogs was great they enjoyed it. Again we all got soaked lol we need to upgrade some of our equipment to be prepared so that doesn’t happen again. But overall we had a wonderful stay and will be back!
