Having been written up countless times across the southeast, US and more recently featured on The Today Show, the farm just keeps growing and getting better. With a history of growing sweet juicy apples, the soil in this part of the world has proven to be excellent for peaches, muscadines, scuppernongs, and blueberries. The farm also grows exotic fruits like persimmons, paw paws, Asian pears, figs, and more! The landscape is picturesque and the mountain views are truly breathtaking in every direction. The farm hosts farm to table dinners that sell out year after year. Their U-Pick fruit opportunities evolve throughout the season with something always coming in from early summer through fall. A list of available fruit is updated often on their website, upcoming events and information about cabin rentals on Horseshoe Lake. The recent addition of a distillery on the farm means the fruit is grown, fermented, distilled and bottled on the farm. The distillery is open year round Monday – Saturday. ged in oak barrels and aged to produce some of the finest liquors made in these mountains. The farm store is complete with fresh produce (in season), canned jams, jellies and bottled ciders. Grass-fed, natural, antibiotic-free Black Angus beef is sold in the store. The cattle are raised on pasture which produces some of the healthiest beef you can buy. Our 19 acres on Brushy Mountain is nestled away in the Ellicott Rock Wilderness Area of the Nantahala National Forest, the largest of NC's four National Forests with over 500,000 acres of pristine wilderness. The famous Iron Bridge over the headwaters of the Chattooga River is just a short drive away down Bull Pen Road. You will find some of the best trout fishing and hiking trails in all of North Carolina at your doorstep. This temperate rain forest is enjoyable in every season and is exceptional in its ecological diversity and abundance. If you are interested in hiking to beautiful waterfalls, fishing in native trout streams, bird watching or star gazing, this is the place for you! And if you need supplies from town, Cashiers is the closest and is about 25 minutes away and Highlands is about a 45 minute drive. Both have great restaurants and shops to check out. Our gated, gravel driveway is steep and a half mile long. You will need an all-wheel or 4 Wheel drive vehicle to get up the driveway without spinning. There is ample space to turn around to park, but due to the nature of our driveway we limit the length of RV's to no more than 20 feet. FREE FIREWOOD FOR LIMITED TIME: I have more split oak firewood than I know what to do with. While it lasts, campers can take as much as they need for free. The wood is piled at the site. Our homestead is home to our family, chickens, and a livestock guardian dog. We also have a small orchard and a garden. Most of our 12+ acres are wooded and our property backs up to thousands of acres of public forest land owned by Clemson University. A trail connects our backyard to the main network of hiking/mountain biking trails in Clemson Forest. For those familiar with the forest, our property is in the vicinity of Wildcat Technical, Wounded Road, and Chainbreaker trails. As private and wooded as our property is, we are only 10-15 minutes from downtown Clemson and less than 10 minutes from the small towns of Central and Six Mile. Lakes Hartwell and Keowee are also short drives. We currently offer a single campsite, which can accommodate several tents or a camper van. Our campsite features a composting toilet outhouse, and water is available from spigots at our house. Though fairly close to our house, the campsite has a very private feel due to being completely surrounded by a hardwood forest.

6 nights at Coweeta Creek Campground

We stayed here for 5 nights with our kids and dogs in our pop up camper and everyone loved it! The creek is amazing and great to explore--its not too fast and shallow enough to wade in. If you're visiting the area from out of town, it's very convenient to many local towns and attractions. We made frequent trips to Franklin, Clayton, and a number of waterfalls. In the evenings, the kids chased fireflies and we saw a lot of whitetail deer. Melissa and Adam were responsive and helpful. They have firewood, honey, and eggs for sale on site. Looking forward to a visit in the fall!

Weekend Trip to Coweeta Creek Campground

This was an ideal campground for our group of 16 (8 adults, 8 kids). The setting was gorgeous, creek access was superb, and the bathhouse was clean and conveniently located. There was plenty of space to run around for group games, and the pond was a hit for the fisher-folk among us. The orchard and chickens really added to the charm, too. All in all it was a lovely, well maintained site that we all agreed we return to (even despite a very soggy weekend!). :)

Weekend Trip to Coweeta Creek Campground

Second time at Coweeta Creek Campground! This time we had tents and a bunch of kinds ranging in ages from 1-8 years. The kids stayed busy exploring, fishing, biking, and playing in the big field; despite the rain. Melissa is a fabulous host, always available, and is a great reference for what the surrounding area has to offer. We will be back.

We loved our stay at Pap’s glamping! Our weekend was quite rainy but were completely dry and comfortable in the tent. We enjoyed the cooking setup, the lake access, and private walking trail. Highly recommend!

It’s an absolute treat every time I get to stay at Coweeta Creek. I swear time stops here and it’s very relaxing. This is what camping and campgrounds were like in the 80’s and 90’s. Great eggs and honey as well!

Weekend Trip to Wildcat Outpost

We loved camping here! Hiked the trail to wild cat falls which was perfect. Strenuous enough to feel like you got a workout in but easy enough for a 6 year old! The site was private, super woodsy, free wood and plenty to source from around the site. The composting toilet was clean and super cute haha My only issue was the amount of leaves around, which is really a non-issue. I’d blow all the leaves off the site before visitors, but other than that it was a GREAT spot! *A bonus was the owners kids occupying my kid all weekend and being the sweetest little guys ever! We’ll be back just to play again :) Thanks for a great time!

Absolutely loved Site #3! So quite, beautiful sunsets and was so fun watching the cows and the horses and the Llama! We also particpated in a tasting at the Distillery. Eric was great and I also got to chat with his wife. We had a great time and will most definitely be back!

Perfect little spot. The water is nice and cool and the sound is perfect for sleeping. Bathhouse is very clean and water pressure better than some hotels. It has that classic old farm feel and I wouldn’t change it 🥰

About

In the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the wooded slopes of Oconee State Park provide a year-round mountain getaway. Spend your days hiking the park’s six nature trails and fishing for bass, bream, and catfish on the two lakes, then check into a rustic CCC-era cabin or pitch a tent by the lake and cozy up around the campfire by night. If that’s not enough fun for you, you’ll also find watercraft rentals, an 18-hole mini-golf course, and a swimming hole. Alternatively, use the park as a basecamp for a whitewater rafting tour along the nearby Chattooga and Chauga rivers.

Tips for snagging a campsite

You can reserve one of 140 RV/tent campsites, 19 cabins, or 15 walk-in tent sites at Oconee State Park via the South Carolina State Parks website. Campsite reservations require a minimum 2-night stay.
Online reservations open 13 months in advance; same-day reservations must be made directly through the park.
Campsites can book up fast, especially for summer and holiday weekends. Book a minimum of three months in advance for the best chance at a spot.

When to go

Camping is possible year-round at Oconee State Park. Come in the summer months to swim, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard, or rent a pedal boat at any time of year. A bonus for fishing enthusiasts—the lakes are stocked with trout in winter. Look out for seasonal events, such as Fourth of July celebrations, a holiday light show, and Friday night summer square dancing.

Know before you go

Oconee State Park is 11 miles north of Walhalla, or about a 20-minute drive away.
All South Carolina state parks require an admission fee in addition to camping fees.
Facilities at Oconee State Park include a park store, rental concession, fishing pier, picnic areas, playgrounds, and restrooms. Wifi is available at the park office and cabin area.
You can bring your own boat and watercraft to Oconee; a South Carolina fishing license is required for fishing. Swimming is permitted in the designated area only and at your own risk—there is no lifeguard patrol.
