formally used as a 1950's Boys Scouts of America campsite. Our Mom purchased the family property over 40 years ago, and my siblings and I grew-up with weekend trips exploring and camping on the property.

We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available.
In addition, our SHARED amenities include an outdoor kitchen that includes a sink with hot water, 2 mini fridges,(full at times, extra coolers available) coffee maker, a two burner stove, a griddle, a toaster oven, blender, tea kettle, and a few pans, plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. Also here to SHARE is a Propane fire pit and BBQ area. The bathroom now includes a flush toilet, sink and shower. We are continuously making improvements.
Fun Fact:
Harbison Canyon was named after John Stewart Harbison - aka the King of the Bee Keepers. He arrived with over one hundred colonies of bees in 1874 and within 7 years he became the world's largest honey producer!

About the property
Our property is in the high desert above Borrego Springs at 4,300'. We border Anza Borrego State property which means you’ll be adjacent to plenty of beautiful open spaces. There are many trails in the park which lead to the desert floor from our fence line. On a clear day you can see the Salton Sea from the bottom of the property.
We have great access to nearby points of interest including Borrego Springs which is 20 miles away, Anza Borrego State Park which is adjacent to Julian at 40 miles away, Palomar observatory which is 40 miles away and Cuyamaca Lake which is fantastic for fishing only 45 miles away. If you need to pop into town for any supplies or services you can access Borrego Springs (20 miles away), Julian (40 miles away), Ramona (45 miles away), and Temecula (50 miles away).
We have 3 horseshoe pits and 9 frisbee golf baskets for recreation onsite and we have incredible dark skies for excellent stargazing. You may see many different forms of wildlife including mountain lions, coyotes, foxes, bob cats, racoons, badgers, and rattle snakes. You will see many rabbits, squirrels and tons of birds of all kinds! We are really the perfect location for those who love the outdoors!
Owners live on site but we like to greet, meet, and then leave you to your stay! Please reach out if you have questions or concerns though.
About the listing
Our listing is for tents, vans and truck campers, trailers, or RV’s and we can accommodate rigs up to 25ft in length. A few of our 5 sites are pull through sites on dirt and may require some leveling. All sites are dry camping only as we do not have any hookups, though there are two bathrooms and water available in a centralized area on the property.
You can expect High desert and scrub brush environments. Any vehicle should be able to access our property but 4-wheel drive vehicle might make it a little easier to access areas on the outside perimeter of the property. While staying with us you can expect some noise from coyotes, raven….wind and a little highway traffic on s22.

Our property is 5 acres of flat land with a well and solar system. The house is the old FBI communications building from the 1950's with a flat roof for people to see views in all directions. The Cleveland national forest is less than a mile away and Black Mtn is in the distance stands at 4000 feet. We hike it with the Llamas and feel blessed to live in a beautiful place. We want to share this wonderful location with our community.

This is a beautiful property with very nice hosts. The grass is lush and green with trees draping over the landscape like a glorious frame. Truly a peaceful and breathtaking property. Cows and chickens and lots of bunnies hopping through.
The hookup spaces are perfect and large. They each have their own picnic table and are separated by more beautiful trees for some privacy between camp sites. A very thoughtfully designed camp area with very welcoming hosts. I actually extended my stay by a few additional nights because I got lucky with availability and didn’t want to leave that beautiful property. Even the drive to the property is serene and amazing. Thank you for allowing me and my fur baby clan to rest on your land. 🙏🏻

Adil is a very helpful host and Coyote Moon is exactly what one would hope for. The bonus with Coyote Moon is the feeling of solitude yet with the convenience of being near so many things to do. 20 min drive for everything from great hiking to good beer. Very dog friendly as well.

A relaxed farm setting with steers lowing, chickens cackling, roosters crowing, and Hosts Bernie and Hoa cultivating gardens, moving soil with a tractor, sharing eggs and homemade beef jerky, also inviting us to sit by their fire.
Wonderful hosts and a great place to stay. The sites are level, private and offer hook ups. Return visitors!

We really really loved our stay at the camp for the first time to celebrate Valentines day. It was really private, quiet, with beautiful surroundings (nature), interesting trails.for adventure. Host's are very kind, feels like family with a sweet dog that will lead you to your campsite, lol. Best place for a weekend getaway away from city life. We will definitely return.

Beautiful property-lots of room to spread out and enjoy the terrain and night sky. Our little terrier loved exploring and just cruising around the property. We used the cabin which allowed us to set up a bed and seating area. Great outside area to cooked and sit by the fire at night.
Adil communicated with us before our available and met us upon arrival to give us keys and portable toilet instructions. We will be back when possible and we will definitely recommend Adil’s Hip Camp site to friends and family.

2nd time on Bernie's and Hoa's property. It was just as peaceful as the first time. Lots of space (there were at least 2 other campers there) and being surrounded by palm trees is pretty cool too. And it is tough to beat the hospitality. Bernie responds to any requests and tries to make sure you feel welcome. I will definitely be back when I am in the area again.

Bernie was an attentive, convivial host. The RV sites were level and full hookups with nice foliage privacy inbetween. The farm was interesting and lively with naturally beatiful views and a peaceful quiet place at night. The only regret was we were not able to stay longer and enjoy more great conversation with Bernie.

Stunning land with so much to explore! The hosts were incredibly kind and helpful, showing us hiking trails and bringing us water twice during our 4-day stay, which really came in handy. There’s no service at the site (Wi-Fi near the host’s house for emergencies), making it a great place to disconnect. The hosts’ dogs were friendly and made us feel safe throughout the stay. Can’t wait to come back when the dam is full!

About
Strap on those hiking boots—four peaks over 5,000 feet await in San Diego's backyard at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. With granite hills, oak woodland forests, waterfalls, and lovely meadows, this 24,700-acre park offers a nice alpine break from SoCal’s deserts and beaches. Hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders can explore over 100 miles of trails, including a summit trail to the 6,512-foot Cuyamaca Peak. Boating and fishing on Lake Cuyamaca are other popular pastimes at Cuyamaca, a popular camping destination offering sites for tents, RVs, and cabin campers. Part of the greater Cleveland National Forest, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park borders Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for lake trips: Paso Picacho Campground is just two miles from Lake Cuyamaca.
- Best for waterfalls: Green Valley Campground is right next to the Green Valley Falls.
- Best for cabin camping: Paso Picacho Campground also has rustic cabin options.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- All Cuyamaca Rancho campsites are reservable 6 months in advance online or by calling 1-800-444-7275.
- Sites may book out on weekends during spring, summer, and fall, so reserve ahead.
- If you have trouble finding a site, expand your search into the surrounding Cleveland National Forest.
When to go
Thanks to its elevation, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park’s mild summers offer a reprieve from sweltering SoCal temps. Summer highs are generally in the mid-80s, while winter lows in the 30s can bring snow and locals for sledding and snowshoeing. Spring is the best time to come for waterfall viewing.
Know before you go
- Lake Cuyamaca has a restaurant, store, and tackle shop. Boat and kayak rentals are available.
- Wildlife watching is popular—keep an eye peeled for woodpeckers, red tail hawks, Pacific tree frogs, rattlesnakes, foxes, bobcats, and mountain lions.
- Although Cuyamaca Rancho State Park has cooler temps than other SoCal areas in lower elevations, the sun is strong and it’s important to bring sun protection and hydrate.
- Most park campsites are pet-friendly and feature picnic tables, fire rings, restrooms, and shower access. Individual campsites do not have RV hookups, but dump stations are available.
- Double-check road and trail conditions before winter trips, as snowfall is possible. The park’s rangers can be reached at (760) 765-3020.

Stayed here for two nights. Pretty basic campground with some nice trees. For local San Diego camping it was decent. The area we were in was very smokey and dusty. We had a tough time with the air as the wind wasn't blowing. Once we drove over to the lake it was much nicer. Campground itself is fine if you aren't sensitive to smoke.

We love Cuyamaca in the spring. Always stay at Paso Picacho and visit Green Valley during the day. The short hike to the creek is great and lots of fun to cool off in the water, but staying at Green Valley looks rough. Not much shade and out in the open. Paso, on the other hand, is much woodsier. Bathrooms are well maintained. Bring quarters. Sites range from amazing (secluded and just the right balance of shade and sun) to barren squirrel infested wasteland. The sites get renumbered pretty often, so it's a bit of a coin toss. Still, we go every year. Good for kids and they're not too strict about noise- as we prefer.
