Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

Nopalito Farm has been in operation since late 2014, but the property itself has been a working farm for over 50 years. Lemons and avocados were the primary crops from the 70’s through the 00’s, and are still prominent throughout our 15 acres. Our predecessors then diversified the growing operation by planting a wide range of fruit trees ranging from guavas and passion fruit to peaches and figs. For a decade, hops were grown on 2 acres and were sold to breweries throughout southern California. We’ve since replaced the hop yard with perennial flowers, but continue to cultivate a wide variety of delicious fruits.

SAN DIEGO CANYON CREEK is a SMALL PATCH of WOODS, NEAR a ROAD, in a NEIGHBORHOOD. In the midst of the trees we have a great view of the stars at night. Harbison Canyon is surrounded by rocky peaks, with a CREEK! We have multiple species of song birds, owls, hawks, and other wildlife that live in this Riparian Habitat. There is a chorus of frogs throughout the spring nights, and crickets year round!
It's a very short walk to the neighborhood park- equipped with several types of playground equipment and public creek access, a five minute drive to a Crestridge Ecological Reserve or 20 minutes to the entrance of Cuyamaca State Park and Cleveland National Forest.
We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available.
In addition, our SHARED amenities include an outdoor kitchen that includes a sink with hot water, 2 mini fridges,(full at times, extra coolers available) coffee maker, a two burner stove, a griddle, a toaster oven, blender, tea kettle, and a few pans, plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. Also here to SHARE is a Propane fire pit and BBQ area. The bathroom now includes a flush toilet, sink and shower. We are continuously making improvements.
Fun Fact:
Harbison Canyon was named after John Stewart Harbison - aka the King of the Bee Keepers. He arrived with over one hundred colonies of bees in 1874 and within 7 years he became the world's largest honey producer!
Today there are just a few bees in the area.

People that stay with us love our views. The view from our large driveway where you'll be parked faces north where you will see the 3 largest peaks in the region, and at the top of our driveway you can see the ocean and downtown San Diego. The sunsets are unreal! Our guests also love the recommendations. As avid travelers that fell in love with San Diego, we can offer recommendations for the best restaurants for any dietary situation, beaches, breweries, bars, surf spots, distilleries, coffee shops, hikes, or whatever you are into.
When you submit a request or message, please let us know what kind of vehicle you have, especially the length. Please note that if the total length of your vehicle (for those with trailers that includes the length of the truck nad hitch) should be under 33 ft. This is a general guideline since we've found some people with larger vehicles struggle to turn around in our driveway. Also please let us know if you plan to use electricity or water, and add on the electricity since this costs us a lot of money. San Diego Gas and Energy charges the most for energy than anywhere else in the country (our average electricity bill is over $700 per month) so we unfortunately have to pass on some of these costs if you decide to plug in. Wifi and water are free. Last, if you tell us a little about yourself and what you're looking to do in San Diego we can try to make your stay more enjoyable with conversation and recommendations.
A little about us: After spending a few years traveling around the world (mostly in a 20ft converted sprinter campervan) and working remotely, we chose San Diego to settle down and start a family. Our house is a fixer-upper with about an acre of land. We recently added a garden, citrus trees, grill, patio, and plan to add more amenities for campers. We love our home and the land around it, and we hope you do too! We are open to both short-term and long-term stays. Currently we don’t have any creek and pond water on the land. Mild seasonal temperature swings, fresh air,
clear evening skies for
star gazing, the property is in a valley surrounded by the Cleveland National Forest and it
was
formally used as a 1950's Boys Scouts of America campsite. Our Mom purchased the family property over 40 years ago, and my siblings and I grew-up with weekend trips exploring and camping on the property.
With love and respect that all that Mother Nature designs be left wild and free, the more than 100 acres is dispersed with groves of old oak trees, mountains are
covered in chaparral and manzanita shrubbery, and seasonal waterfalls, streams, a lake with a dam, dirt roads, and hiking trails. Our family's wish is to share our little bit of heaven on earth property with others who will love it as we do. We are happy to share more about the history of the more than 100 acres when you come up to the property for your next camping adventure.

Descanso is located east of Alpine and west of Pine Valley. Descanso is a small census-designated place in the Cuyamaca Mountains, within the Mountain Empire area of southeastern San Diego County, California.

Canyon Creek is a lovely little getaway and has wonderful amenities. We normally like to camp in areas further displaced from society, but as we camped with our newborn, this was an optimal experience.

Tami and Robert were wonderful hosts, they were attentive with all needs and very kind. Their property is a perfect stay with full hook ups and many farm animals to tour and less than 30 minutes from the coast! We will definitely stay here again.

3 nights at Lake Henshaw hideaway
Absolutely amazing 5 stars. Tom is a gracious host giving you snacks, water, tv, wifi, bbq, and so much more. He goes above and beyond to make you're camping trip the best one and stress free. Also, his communication was great whether you have a question about the trip or when you are there. It also was completely peaceful, nobody around. 10 out of 10 for my weekend getaway. Will definitely be coming back.

I recently stayed at The Cove #1: OakTree Shaded Campsite at Hideout Mountain Lodge for the 4th of July weekend.
The entire campsite was incredibly clean and well-maintained. True to its name, the massive oak tree canopy offered wonderful shade, making it a perfect spot to relax after a day of exploring. Another huge bonus was the connectivity—the Wi-Fi was surprisingly good and kept us connected without any issues.
What really set this place apart, though, were the amenities. The bathrooms were spotless and featured real, flushing toilets, which is a massive upgrade for a camping trip! They also have excellent shower facilities that were a lifesaver. There is nothing better than being able to wash off the outdoor dirt and feel completely fresh and clean after being out and about the campsite all day.
The moo-ing cows were entertaining as well. Highly recommend!

The location had soft wood chips that were great for tent camping. Everything was as expected from the listing and reviews. The kitchen area was even better than we expected and was nice and cool even in the heat of the day.

Camp Meadow was huge. Despite other campsites on the property, I did not see another person the entire time I was there. As a single female, it was also a little unsettling. But I highly recommend it to others looking for a relaxing time in nature. The only drawbacks, which I wouldn’t call deal-breakers, are that a high-clearance vehicle is needed to get in and out, and it’s wise to have a spare just in case. There is only one way in and one way out, and the outhouse... is exactly that, so prepare for that.

This was a great spot! Definitely recommend site 6. It was along the creek and was further away from the road, spacious, and flat. Our kids especially loved the 2 donkeys and turkeys. And we were so glad we could have a fire since several sites do not allow. The host checked in both nights as well which was appreciated.

Where do I start? This place was off the charts awesome. The service was top-notch. The views were spectacular. No bugs to speak of. Awesome weather. Killer campsite with power hook ups. The bathrooms and shower were immaculate and functioned really well. Can’t say enough good things and can’t wait to go back.

We loved our tent camping experience on Vicki’s land! The view was spectacular, the night sky - incredible, and the weather perfect for the few days we spent there. We were fortunate to have a perfect spot for our camping experience, large enough for our large tent and a site where we could set up our outdoor gear. We had a blow up couch that was really comfortable and if you can bring one with you we would highly recommend it! It made our outdoor experience really comfortable. But of course it isn’t necessary lol. The flush toilets and shower were a bonus, definitely liked that. The land was fun to explore and we will definitely be coming back! Rick was helpful when we had questions, and we were greeted when arrived shown to our campsite, and Solo the camp dog was sweet to have around when we saw him. Definitely recommend this campsite, we felt safe and were comfortable, will be coming back again!
