Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

Harbison Canyon is surrounded by rocky peaks, with a CREEK! We have multiple species of song birds, owls, hawks, and other wildlife that live in this Riparian Habitat. There is a chorus of frogs throughout the spring nights, and crickets year round!
It's a very short walk to the neighborhood park- equipped with several types of playground equipment and public creek access, a five minute drive to a Crestridge Ecological Reserve or 20 minutes to the entrance of Cuyamaca State Park and Cleveland National Forest.
We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available.
In addition, our SHARED amenities include an outdoor kitchen that includes a sink with hot water, 2 mini fridges,(full at times, extra coolers available) coffee maker, a two burner stove, a griddle, a toaster oven, blender, tea kettle, and a few pans, plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. Also here to SHARE is a Propane fire pit and BBQ area. The bathroom now includes a flush toilet, sink and shower. We are continuously making improvements.
Fun Fact:
Harbison Canyon was named after John Stewart Harbison - aka the King of the Bee Keepers. He arrived with over one hundred colonies of bees in 1874 and within 7 years he became the world's largest honey producer!
Today there are just a few bees in the area.

Nopalito Farm has been in operation since late 2014, but the property itself has been a working farm for over 50 years. Lemons and avocados were the primary crops from the 70’s through the 00’s, and are still prominent throughout our 15 acres. Our predecessors then diversified the growing operation by planting a wide range of fruit trees ranging from guavas and passion fruit to peaches and figs. For a decade, hops were grown on 2 acres and were sold to breweries throughout southern California. We’ve since replaced the hop yard with perennial flowers, but continue to cultivate a wide variety of delicious fruits.

People that stay with us love our views. The view from our large driveway where you'll be parked faces north where you will see the 3 largest peaks in the region, and at the top of our driveway you can see the ocean and downtown San Diego. The sunsets are unreal! Our guests also love the recommendations. As avid travelers that fell in love with San Diego, we can offer recommendations for the best restaurants for any dietary situation, beaches, breweries, bars, surf spots, distilleries, coffee shops, hikes, or whatever you are into.
When you submit a request or message, please let us know what kind of vehicle you have, especially the length. Please note that if the total length of your vehicle (for those with trailers that includes the length of the truck nad hitch) should be under 33 ft. This is a general guideline since we've found some people with larger vehicles struggle to turn around in our driveway. Also please let us know if you plan to use electricity or water, and add on the electricity since this costs us a lot of money. San Diego Gas and Energy charges the most for energy than anywhere else in the country (our average electricity bill is over $700 per month) so we unfortunately have to pass on some of these costs if you decide to plug in. Wifi and water are free. Last, if you tell us a little about yourself and what you're looking to do in San Diego we can try to make your stay more enjoyable with conversation and recommendations.
A little about us: After spending a few years traveling around the world (mostly in a 20ft converted sprinter campervan) and working remotely, we chose San Diego to settle down and start a family. Our house is a fixer-upper with about an acre of land. We recently added a garden, citrus trees, grill, patio, and plan to add more amenities for campers. We love our home and the land around it, and we hope you do too! We are open to both short-term and long-term stays. This Campground was first opened in the early 1930"s as the Base Camp for the Contruction crew to build Route S6 "Road to the Stars" top of Palomar Mountain. The Road needed to be built wide and smooth in order to transport the Hale Telescope. The construction had to stop due to the start of WW2. Once WW2 had ended the work was completed 1948.
The Base Camp first name was Palomar Gardens, Then Oak Knoll Camp and is now being rebranded back to its Original Name Basecamp Palomar.
The property is rustic, a little dusty and very old school. If you're looking for a new type of camping with 5-star amenities we recommend Pala or Pechanga Resort RV Park Casino RV Park.
We are just plain and simple.

Welcome to a peaceful 11-acre hilltop sanctuary tucked into the chaparral-covered hills east of San Diego. This rustic retreat offers wide-open space, deep quiet, and a private hiking trail leading to a mountain summit with breathtaking 360-degree views of rolling mountains, valleys, and endless sky.
From fiery sunsets to crystal-clear night skies, this is a place to slow down, unplug, and reconnect with nature. On clear nights, enjoy exceptional stargazing and luminous full moons—no city glare, just stars.
We offer two thoughtfully spaced camp sites, ideal for couples, friends, or small families of up to four. We do offer a pool and hot tub for an additional charge. These are reserved in 2 hour time slots to ensure you have complete privacy.

Nestled beneath majestic oak trees on a secluded 40+ acres ranch. This fabulous site combines the beauty of a North County San Diego picturesque park like setting with the convenience of nearby downtown Fallbrook, approximate 5 miles away. This ranch is private and serene with a roaming heard of 20+ goats of varying breeds and ages. Come hang out with the goats! We only have 3 sites, and they are all spread apart to offer you privacy. What a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking for peace and quiet!
Local near by attractions include Monserate Winery, Grand Tradition Estate and Gardens, Kenny's Strawberry Farm, Fallbrook Winery, Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Museum, Los Jilgueros Preserve, and Santa Margarita River Trail Preserve.

Very nice and peaceful spot. The host kindly gave me an upgrade to their trailer with a beautiful view of the valley, since they were doing work on a building near the campsite, which would have been noisy.

This was a little piece of paradise! We really enjoyed our stay here. The spot was spacious and we enjoyed using the outdoor kitchen & eating dinner as the sunset! We got to see hummingbirds, butterflies, and the frogs croaking at night was the cherry on top! Bathroom was clean and easy to find. We were greeted by the co-hosts that were sweet and informative! A great escape from the city, will be back.

A truly wonderful spot and can't say enough good things about Bernie and Hoa as hosts. They were so welcoming, graciously offered lemons, tangerines, and cucumbers from their garden. Even invited me over to join the neighborhood potluck they were hosting, having known me for 30 minutes!
RV hook ups were easily accessible, and spot was exactly as promised.
10/10 would recommend. Will definitely be returning myself!

We absolutely loved camping at Bernie's and Hoa's. It was beautiful, peaceful and the hosts were hospitable. We enjoyed the tour of the property and excited for the new bathrooms they are building for their guests! We had a family emergency so we did not get a chance to say goodbye and thank you for being so awesome! We look forward to coming back.

We had an amazing time camping here. It was peaceful and beautiful. The vibe of the entire property was great. Vicki was so kind of welcoming and we could tell a lot of pride and love has gone into this place. My only advise is to make sure you are prepared for an unpaved drive up and down the mountain - I'd recommend only taking a vehicle with higher clearance and good traction.

I purposely booked something away from the city, I wanted to visit the city and be able to step away from it. This was exactly that. They had to move me to accommodate another camper with a giant RV but I was not bothered by that at all. I actually stayed at what I believe is listed as mountain view. It somehow feels more private, even though it isn't. There is cell phone signal if that matters to you. The bathrooms are clean and stocked. They are a far walk and if you have mobility difficulties or incontinence this may not be the place to camp. It was quiet at night, despite what it sounds like during the day. When it rains it gets really muddy. If I ever find myself out that way again I will totally stay here again.

The whole family loved camping here and we are already planning another trip with friends! Lots of space for the kids to run and play. We camped at the redtail rock campground. There were lots of big boulders to climb on and block the wind. No shade so bring a pop up. There are goats roaming around which was really exciting to see them cruising by.
The campstore doesn’t have much… firewood, fuel, some snacks. No ice, no beer or wine.
I didn’t feel like the $10 extra baby goat experience was really worth it. There’s plenty of opportunities to see the goats without paying. And I guess I didn’t explain to my children that we paid to be in the pin with the goats (to feed the baby goats) because they got in trouble for letting themselves in to the goat pin the following day. There are also some private residences scattered throughout the property. My children also got in trouble for getting off the main road and walking near one of the trailers. They were following the goats lol. So just make sure you review the rules with the kiddos. It’s a quick 5 min trip to the river. Lots of nice shady hikes there.
