D&amp;J Stables

We stayed here with our three horses, a living quarters trailer, and our dog, and had a fantastic experience. Yes, this is a working stable, but it doesn’t negatively impact the camping or overall stay. The grounds are spotless, and both the boarders and horses are friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The owners, Suzanne and Scott, are amazing—helpful, hospitable, and great to deal with. If you’re traveling with horses, this place is outstanding (10/10): -Plenty of space for your rig -Access to an arena, wash stall, and round pen -Spacious paddocks right behind your trailer so you can easily keep an eye on your horses -Feed store just down the road -Direct access to beautiful trails to the beach through Tijuana River Regional Park -Very dog-friendly Amenities include a porta toilet and outdoor shower. Laundromat, groceries, and restaurants are all within 5–10 minutes, and there’s lots to explore nearby. A couple of notes: -The facility is beside the road, but we had no issues with noise - You’ll see Border Patrol in the area—they were polite and unobtrusive -The valley has had significant flooding and is still recovering, so you’ll notice some cleanup and debris, but it doesn’t affect the trails -The nearby Tijuana River can occasionally cause an odour if the wind shifts, but compared to all the positives, it’s easy to overlook Overall, a clean, well-run, and thoughtfully set up spot—especially for anyone traveling with horses. Highly recommend.

Amazing Experience @ D&J stables!

Scott and Susanne were so kind and such a pleasure to meet! The property is beautiful and not far from some beaches. They allowed us to say hello and meet all the boarded horses on their property and we were surprised by the beautiful shed Scott built and decorated as well as surprised by the hot water shower! This all really elevated our camping experience and I would 10/10 recommend camping here regardless if you bring horses or just yourself and some friends!

Site 4 - Beachin' ranch camping w/ horses

Loved this place and Scott and his wife were amazing. Facilities are great and they have a wonderful staff if you want anything for your horses! Even mules, donkeys, and a camel :) Can’t wait to come back!!

Horse Ranch in Regional Park

A handful of grassy tent sites, partially shaded by jacaranda trees, on a private working horse ranch in the middle of the Tijuana River Valley Regional Park, a couple miles inland from the beach, and a stone's throw away from the border wall with Tijuana. There's a porta-potty as well as a porta-shower, and a 'hangout,' which is a small barn-like structure with a front porch and a sink with running water, and a propane BBQ on a back deck. Hosts Scott and Suzanne were accommodating and friendly.

I love Horse camping at DJ Stables. First of all it has improve since the owners are now living there and running it.. The place is clean, the owners are so kind and they make sure everyone is happy and comfortable. Riding from the Staples to the beach is only mile and a half, and it’s a fantastic ride. The Stables offer a shower and an outhouse, and they are kept very clean. The horse stalls are big clean and they offer feeding and cleaning as well.

Perfect Family Camp Site!

We loved D&J Ranch! My son Wes and I spent last weekend camping down at D&J ranch for my birthday and we had an absolute blast! Everyone on the property was respectful, kind and Knowledgeable. We were supposed to just camp on the property but both were able to find riding Lessons with Lauren:m. One of the horse trainers! We will definitely be back 🤙

Awesome Experience

I was pleasantly surprised by this peaceful camp spot. The hosts were so kind and friendly. Brought my 7 month old puppy who also had a great experience with their dogs, Koda and Tucker. I am looking forward to my next trip to San Diego and hopefully there will be a spot for me. I would say, don't hesitate to give this ranch your business. It's rustic and peaceful!

We stayed for 3 nights with our 2 horses. Our 3 horse LQ with 12ft short wall fit once unhooked in the space. We actually set up in space 4 as that was easier access to the gate into the stable area. Very clean, secure location with access to trails. Mostly we stayed here so we could leave the horses and visit our grand daughter at San Diego State. It worked well. Hosts were very accommodating.

Beautiful shady location my dogs absolutely loved running around and meeting other camping dogs they all had so much fun. It was a nice quiet location nice people not too crowded at all. We had plenty of space nice green grass and the horses and the birds just a little beautiful location

The most unique camping experience

Overall this was a really great and fun experience. However, I must be honest in my review. This sight was not quite as advertised. It is quite far from the beach, and the closest beaches are experiencing a sewage crisis, so we had to travel further than we thought to a beach. The campsite is quite small. We were the only campers at the time, but it would be quite cramped if there were other campers. You are sleeping directly next to horse stalls. However, they are kept very clean and the smell was something we only noticed a few times. It was very cool to hang out with the horses, and you can pet some of them. However, this sight is not very private as business continues as usual on this horse ranch. We witnessed a horse dental cleaning and many owners riding their horses. We did not mind this at all, but if you’d like a private sight, this isn’t for you. You can see the Mexico boarder from here, and the ranch is next to a road where boarder patrol and other cars are frequent, so it is not too quiet at night. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. The portapotty was kept very clean and there was a shower, which was a pleasant surprise. In the shower were snails and little frogs, which completely made this trip worth it for us. Overall, we loved our time here and would stay again. If you’re up for the adventure, i 100% recommend. If you like a more quiet, private sight or something with more amenities or closer to the beach, this is not for you.

The people here are super nice. However, the spot leaves a lot to be desired. It's not so much as a camping site as a patch of grass next to a large horse paddock. The only bathroom is a porto-potty that is inside the horse enclosure. There is no specific water source, though there are hoses around. The sprinkler system started before dawn and woke us up. We were in the middle of enjoying a fire outside when a worker came and put a tall metal ring around the fire, explaining this was "necessary for the horses," making it impossible to see the fire. No one was there to greet us when we arrived and were given literally no information about anything whatsoever. Again, the people are very nice. We were booked for 5 nights but realized right away that the spot wouldn't work and we were refunded 4 nights without question, after leaving the next morning. If you love horses and you don't mind a lack of facilities, then this spot could be great for you. The guy that takes care of the horses is super nice as well. The horses are wonderful however it would be nice to have a separate area to camp in, away from the horses (who can be very loud at times), something with an actual bathroom that has it's own dedicated area.

The pictures are not accurate. This place is a working horse stable. Be prepared to sleep next to horse stalls if you’re in a tent. It’s a busy area and it was loud through the night. Host is very nice. If you’re into horses maybe check it out.

Sleeping in horse stables

Sites 6-4 are small patches of grass in a dirt lot sitting directly against metal fence horse stables. Site 5 has porta potties sitting directly next to its picnic table, which were pumped at about 8:00-9:00am. Porta potties aside, the entire area had a pungent smell of sewage runoff due to its close proximity to the Tijuana River, and horse stables. I would not recommend this site to tent campers or rooftop tent campers, but sleeping in an RV might reduce the smell somewhat, and noise from the busy road sitting directly next to site 6. Although the owner was extremely friendly and allowed our 5-year old daughter to pet her horses, I would not stay here again and would not recommend it.

The owner was sweet and location is very nice. We enjoyed being nature so much. But restroom, shower and sink outside, it was not clean and we saw so many ants inside of restroom. The restroom smell was not good. If owner can take care of cleaning or invest for amenities, it would be wonderful!

Camping near Tijuana Rver Reserve.

Love this location, generous grassy area, fire rings, porta-potty, portable shower with hot/cold water, wash basin next to both. The boarding managers are very friendly, made me feel like a family member. Lots of wildlife in the area, Bluejays, Harris hawks, owls, raccoons, crows. There are many, tall eucalyptus trees across the street from the camping spots, homes to lots of birds.

Amazing place. Love the horse vibe. The smell is not as bad as some of the reviews state. Actually brings me back to my childhood. The process was super simple and directions were great. There’s also plenty of room to maneuver when coming into the spaces. All the people were super nice and although I didn’t get to personally meet the owners, their communication was great.

amazing stay ..great customer service and excellent tending to our horses .. they had optional power which was great so i didnt have to bring the big generator . only thing i would suggest if your going to trail ride on beach make sure to call ahead to see if the trail is flooded or not only one way in and one way out of trail to beach and it could be flooded out

Camping grounds were grassy parking spaces fairly close to each other. Did have fire pits, benches, a shower, and hand washing sink. Owners were friendly when I met them but did not have anywhere I could contact them and did not respond to hipcamp messages. Horse stable is rented out to private owners so they could not be ridden - but down the street theres a place you could rent and ride. Did not meet the owners when we first got there - had to talk to one of the other campers to know what was going on. Beach is a 50 minute walk aways. Not bad, not necessarily what I expected or was advertised.

This campsite was so great! Sites 4-6 were grassy which was great. There’s a port-a-potty that was clean and even a portable shower with heat which we weren’t expecting. Fire pits were nice, although we didn’t end up using them. Super easy to find the location, however we were never greeted when we arrived which is totally fine. We ran into a couple of people on the property who were very kind and helpful when we had questions, but we had no idea if they were the owners. The only downsides of the site were how bright it is at night because of the border wall lights and how noisy neighbors and through traffic is. Other than that, it was great! Seeing the horses was a great addition! We’d stay again!

Is a great spot for horse lovers, there are trees for shade, park benches, pots for campfires. The tall trees by the adjacent roads harbor crows, finches, and falcons. Camp hosts are great, made me feel welcome and even brought fresh baked items to enjoy.
