This beautiful high desert retreat is a working artist's property with several stone and steel sculptures of the late artist,  Norm Hines,  available for viewing on the property. The guest cabin sits secluded on the southern ridge of Montezuma Valley, with spectacular views of Earthquake Valley and the distant mountains of Baja California and a short hike to Anza Borrego State Park. A gas fireplace in the cabin will keep you warm on those chilly winter evenings. Ideal for 1-2 people looking for solitude, stargazing and high-desert nature.  Cozy guest cabin with propane fireplace on 30 acre artist's retreat at 4000 feet elevation.  One mi. hike to NW boundary of Anza Borrego SP. Four mi. to PCT. Hiking trails to large plutonic rocks, breathtaking view south into Mexico. Private portable toilet, outdoor cold water sink, outdoor grill, small camping stove, teapot, full size bed,  Norm Hines sculptures on property for guest viewing. Great for bird watching, stargazing, desert solitude. 13 miles to Borrego Springs. 28 miles to Julian. Guests love staying here: "Tom’s cabin was the perfect weekend getaway to decompress and detach. The site offers all the amenities you need. There are multiple trails located around the property if you’re looking to get a little activity in. Otherwise just sitting and hanging out is about as peaceful as it gets. A great place to go if you don’t want to venture out too far. This place just might be my monthly weekend hideout. Thanks Tom for sharing such a beautiful place."

Crickets Cabin
What a lovely place! So perfect for just me and my dog. Lots of space to roam freely and safely. Stayed in December, it was cold!!! But the little propane heater does an excellent job! Just a heads up, the cabin does come with 2 grills, but it was so cold even water wouldn't boil. I brought my newer camp stove with a high BTU. Very glad I did otherwise I wouldn't have been able to cook. Tom is LOVELY! Come in the daylight, I got lost at night. Would 100% come back. Great spot

Crickets Cabin
My husband and I wanted a quick getaway from the noise. We ended up at Crickets Cabin and had a lovely stay! Its wonderfully appointed and has pretty much everything you might need. Tom is a fabulous host who met us upon arrival. He had just installed an outdoor shower, so one thing to note, is bring a bath towel if you plan on showering (yes there is hot water). It’s about a 30 minute drive to Borrego Springs/ Anza Borrego State Park and we spent most of Saturday hiking and exploring. The port-o-potty was spotless and there are plenty of soft lights so that you can see where you’re going if you need to find it at night. I was extremely peaceful and we hope to come back next time with our dog. We brought our own food to cook and stored our food in coolers. Definitely check the weather before you head out there as it was in the 80’s/90’s during the day but pretty cold at night and this was the 1st weekend of October. I was prepared but wished I had packed a beanie.

Perfect camping trip for two!
Wow! We were very happy with our stay at Tom’s cabin. I went with my husband and our dog Guinness. Guinness doesn’t get along well with other dogs so we were looking for a place that would be the only site. There is no one else around you and you have amazing views both day and night. Tom has also provided many extra amenities such as a folding table, headlamps, lantern, pots, pans, cooking grill, butane stove and more! so you’ll be fine if you don’t have your own supplies! We can’t wait to go back. If you are deciding on this place, choose it! You won’t regret it.

Gorgeous Dessert Escape!
Wow, what an amazing spot that has all you need. It has a comfy bed, electric outlets for charging your phone, grill to cook on, head lamps and plenty of solar powered lights. It is walking distance (about a mile) to the local market on the main road. But the cabin itself is set off the main property and overlooks a gorgeous area. Lots of boulders, mountains in the distance, and has quiet solitude you are looking for!

Peace
Our stay at Crickets Cabin was peaceful and relaxing. I spent so much time staring our at the scenery. Tom was very helpful before and during our stay, sharing details on the cooking equipment and tips for using the shower. I wish we had brought some warmer clothes for stargazing, but the bed inside the cabin was warm and comfy. We traveled to California from the east coast, so didn't come with much gear, but the cabin had everything we needed! It was handy to have cellphone service to plan hikes and a day trip to Joshua Tree.

Nice Meditative Space
Crickets Cabin was a wonderful stay! M We loved the variety of books to read, the wildlife, and the amenities Tom provided. He was very personable and attentive to our needs. The location was quiet and gave a nice isolated feel for relaxation. Would definitely book again. Next time, we’ll make sure to check the weather to dress appropriately but the mini fireplace was a life saver.

Perfect for us!
My partner and I stayed in Cricket's cabin for four nights and really enjoyed it. The cabin is set in a beautiful spot overlooking mountains and gorgeous scenery all around. It's perfectly equipped with everything you will need for a comfortable and peaceful stay. Tom did a really great job with the details. He's a great host, very responsive and really cares about your experience. My partner and I had plans to wake early each morning for hikes, but it was just so difficult to leave such a peaceful atmosphere. If you don't mind a little scenic driving, this is a great spot to use as a base if you plan to explore the PCT trail and Anza-Borrego nearby. We would definitely stay here again! Thanks again, Tom.

Serene Birthday celebration
If you are wanting a serene , quiet getaway , this artist cabin is the place to go ! It is a stunning sight to see , sunrise , sunset . I came here to celebrate my 30th birthday with my gf and my dog . We brought a cooler full of food / ice/ beverages . We stayed for 3 nights . I brought my own propane fueled camping grill ( there is one on the property ) . There is a porta - potty and it’s kept super clean . We used the outdoor shower which is open and you get a view of the mountain ( has hot water ). The cabin has a small propane fireplace and it kept the cabin warm enough , we had warm layers on . Tom is a great host and made us feel welcomed and safe . He guided us when we drove in at night ( which I don’t recommend ) it’s easier to see the path and way in daylight . I drive a Prius c , it’s super low to the ground and it had no problem making it . There are also a few games like dominos , cards ... etc .. there are so many fun sculptures around the property and a meditative path on the property . There are plenty of hikes around the area , we went to one that was dog friendly montezuma valley trail 11 miles but relatively easy ( no major inclines ) highly recommend it ! I had such an incredible time and can’t wait to come again !

Cricket cabin is the place if you are seeking desert solitude! You will be the last people up the ridge, facing an undisturbed view of the mountain lines. We were surprised to see the cabin equipped with all the amenities we needed and more. Tom is an amazing host and artist - the scriptures on the property are beautiful and the walking trail so meditative. Hoping to come back again soon.

Crickets Cabin was absolutely amazing. My partner, myself and our dog, Heath, had a fantastic trip. Tom is a lovely and gracious host, eager to share his beautiful property and thoughtful amenities. The site is private and the views are stunning. We were comfortable, sleeping in a heated cozy cabin while it snowed and waking up to snow capped mountains backed by the high desert colors. We can't wait to come back when Tom has his ceramics workshop up and running! We are definitely recommending this place to all of our friends. Perfect getaway for 2 (plus a pup).

Cozy cabin with stunning views
It was an absolute delight to stay at Crickets Cabin. Tom is a gracious and generous host, he went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. The views from the cabin are sublime, both of the nearby mountains and of the stars. Bring a heavy jacket so you can make it to the outhouse without freezing in the regular cold nightly winds. Be sure to explore the fascinating art and impressive display of craftsmanship across the property, as well as the meandering trails wandering below!
