Weekend Trip to King Creek Campground

Beautiful location and friendly host, we’d definitely stay here again! There were nice trails and it was so quiet and private. The drive on the dirt road to the campsites is a bit steep and uneven in places, which was fine for our SUVs, but we had friends with smaller cars (Prius, Mazda 3) who couldn’t comfortably make it due to their low clearance so we just shuttled them in our SUVs. We’d recommend making sure you bring a car with higher clearance.

Loomerland is a great spot for kids and adults alike. The hosts are very accommodating, the amenities make camping easy, and the farm is beautiful. This trip was our family’s second time here and hopefully won’t be the last. I’d recommend it to anyone!

3 nights at Loomerland Ranch and Retreat

This is our first Hipcamp experience and it was a pleasantly unique one. We were greeted by the sweetest pack of dogs and our sites were clean and easy to find. Our group of 12 booked sites 3 & 4 to be close together. The hot shower & toilets were just a few mins away fr our sites. The camp hosts, Joel & Jessica, were very helpful and showed us around. The owner, Sean, communicated thru the website and answered all my questions in a timely manner. The kids (ages 6-17) loved visiting all the animals: feeding the goats, holding the kitties in the cathouse, petting the calm big dogs, hiking on the trails, playing at the obstacle course, & they really loved the zip line. There are trails on the property ranging fr easy to difficult. On our night walk to stargaze, there is a beautiful view fr the Hilltop site. Having the dogs around left a big impression as we’ve never had guard dogs at a campsite before. Even though there were times (late in the night) where there was a stretch of barking at something in the hills, it felt very comforting to know they were out there doing their job. It was interesting to hear them communicating to each other from end to end of the property and it was actually not a bother for any of us. It became almost like white noise to fall asleep to. We felt honored to have most of them hang out with us and at the end of the trip we were all saying “We miss the dogs!” So we definitely look forward to coming back and we recommend this place for families.

Rugged and remote location with lots of space to explore. The old dam is super cool. I spent two nights there and had fun adventures. Hosts are very cool with an interesting backstory. The dirt road is pretty steep in parts, so you gotta know what you're doing with a heavy vehicles.

Davida’s Happy Camper was my wife and I’s first Hip Camp experience and it was just perfect. The modern and cozy Jayco RV is just as described, the land is peaceful and inviting, and Davida is a sweet and thoughtful host! We loved the Apple Walnut bread and honey she gifted us. What a great touch! We only wish we stayed longer. But that’s why we plan to come back :)

Weekend Trip to Santa Ysabel Dark Sky Retreat

Camping on Jeff’s land was the perfect peaceful weekend getaway. Stargazing was exceptional (even w/ a bright moon). I think we caught the end of the Southern Taurid meteor showers—saw my first meteor fireball! In the past, I’ve always camped at campgrounds shared with others so the level of privacy provided by being the only campers on Jeff’s land is absolutely incredible. You take a small set of stairs down to the campsite, which is right off the main dirt road. The campsite is right alongside the road, but it’s at a lower level and never impacted our sense of privacy. I rarely noticed cars going by and when they did, they drove respectfully slow so it wasn’t very noticeable. We felt comfortable letting our dog roam freely and he had a blast exploring the grounds. The porta potty is a short ~1 min walk further down the same dirt road so it’s super close by (also the cleanest porta potty I’ve ever been in which was greatly appreciated). At the campsite itself, there is a table, a few chairs, two hammocks, a putting green (but we didn’t set it up), water tank, gas stove (we brought propane), and a gated pet pen. Note: 3 tents could fit but a large portion of the campsite is slightly sloped. We ended up moving our tent to the flat concrete slab the 2nd day which made for a much better night sleep. I also highly recommend hiking the Eagle Rock Trail that Jeff suggests. Six miles round trip but definitely worth it. We will definitely be coming back!

About the property Our property is in the high desert above Borrego Springs at 4,300'. We border Anza Borrego State property which means you’ll be adjacent to plenty of beautiful open spaces. There are many trails in the park which lead to the desert floor from our fence line. On a clear day you can see the Salton Sea from the bottom of the property.  We have great access to nearby points of interest including Borrego Springs which is 20 miles away, Anza Borrego State Park which is adjacent to Julian at 40 miles away, Palomar observatory which is 40 miles away and Cuyamaca Lake which is fantastic for fishing only 45 miles away. If you need to pop into town for any supplies or services you can access Borrego Springs (20 miles away), Julian (40 miles away), Ramona (45 miles away), and Temecula (50 miles away). We have 3 horseshoe pits and 9 frisbee golf baskets for recreation onsite and we have incredible dark skies for excellent stargazing. You may see many different forms of wildlife including mountain lions, coyotes, foxes, bob cats, racoons, badgers, and rattle snakes. You will see many rabbits, squirrels and tons of birds of all kinds! We are really the perfect location for those who love the outdoors! Owners live on site but we like to greet, meet, and then leave you to your stay! Please reach out if you have questions or concerns though. About the listing Our listing is for tents, vans and truck campers, trailers, or RV’s and we can accommodate rigs up to 25ft in length. A few of our 5 sites are pull through sites on dirt and may require some leveling. All sites are dry camping only as we do not have any hookups, though there are two bathrooms and water available in a centralized area on the property.  You can expect High desert and scrub brush environments. Any vehicle should be able to access our property but 4-wheel drive vehicle might make it a little easier to access areas on the outside perimeter of the property. While staying with us you can expect some noise from coyotes, raven….wind and a little highway traffic on s22. Each site will accommodate up to 6 people. Mild seasonal temperature swings, fresh air, clear evening skies for star gazing, the property is in a valley surrounded by the Cleveland National Forest and it was formally used as a 1950's Boys Scouts of America campsite. Our Mom purchased the family property over 40 years ago, and my siblings and I grew-up with weekend trips exploring and camping on the property.
