There is also a launch in the city park for kayaking. The Zen Monastery is just 5 miles away. Long Beach, WA is across the Columbia River via the Astoria Bridge. Lounging about the homestead works too.

Sitting in comfy camp chairs on the covered porch can be magical during a spring rain. Outhouse with nightlight and composting toilet. Firepit with kindling and firewood in winter. (Summer fires are not allowed.) Short walk to the beach to the north. Short walk south to the edge of the Oro Bay as well. Kayaks can be rented on island. (Not related to the host.) Multiple hikes / walks within Jacob's Point, Andy's Marine Park, and 7 other parks on island. One wonderful little grocery store on island for fresh or incidental items along with one cafe, and one restaurant. The historic Johnson Farm and Museum can be a great place to sample island life from 100+ years ago. Pay extra for use of the twin electric bikes to ride the many quiet, scenic roads around the island. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. There is no smoking of any kind in the cabin or on the property. As the property manager and host for The Legacy Basecamp, I wanted to experience the space firsthand and it truly delivered. While I manage the bookings and guest experience rather than stewarding this incredible land long-term, staying here gave me a full appreciation for what makes this spot so special.
There is plenty of open space for the family to run around, play, and unwind. One of our favorite details was hearing the faint whistle of the train passing in the distance,it adds such a classic, peaceful touch to the woods. The large covered outdoor space was a lifesaver for escaping the midday heat, and it will clearly be the ultimate cozy refuge once the fall and winter rains set in.
Between the fully equipped indoor kitchen and the versatile outdoor cooking setups, meal prep was effortless with tons of options. After full days outside, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and everything we needed was right at hand. We left feeling completely refreshed.

Brian was very nice, he guided us through the cabin on our first night. It is quiet and peaceful there. We walked the trails with our dogs; it is a very dog friendly site. We saw deer several times in the cabin's front yard and on the road to the cabin. There was also a large rabbit living in a blackberry bush near the cabin. We did have our fill of wild blackberries there, they were delicious. It was a pleasant stay and we plan to book again.

Thank you for such a fun experience! The best part was all of the water toys we were able to use! Such a quiet and peaceful location. It’s our first time using hip camp and hopefully a bathroom is installed so we can return! That was the only issue the porter potty location. Other than that we enjoyed every bit of the cabin we even brought our projector so we had a movie night outside under the stars cabin is fully stocked Kevin literally thought of everything!

We loved our stay at Brian's cabin! Brian is very friendly and the space is beautiful. We enjoyed having dinner on the front porch and exploring the area around the cabin. No service or WiFi (but you have access to WiFi at the main house if you need it) which really let us disconnect and rest. We had everything we needed! Highly recommend.

Great location and wonderful hosts. Perfect launching off site for Mt Rainier. And a wonderful place to return to relax. We had so much fun on the lake.
Would love to see an indoor restroom, or one that didn't require a hike up a bunch of stairs and a hill to access (for my mom), but otherwise, truly a perfect stay!

This was such a cool stay. The location was perfect and we had an amazing time exploring the whole property. The different areas to relax were very thoughtfully placed throughout the property, and it was a nice walk to the lake. The bed was comfy and the space was clean. Loved having the fire pit at night. Would definitely stay at this magical place again!!

Our second summer visiting and it was great again. Very thoughtful and communicative host. Fun location with swimming, kayaks, fishing, brand new dock. Rooms were clean with lots of useful items. Terrific picnic/fire pit area. Great lighting. Look forward to returning

Weekend Trip to Cole's Cabin on Anderson Island
Perfect, quiet overnight get away for my spouse and I! We got dinner at the island restaurant and took the nice walk down to the beach access just in time for dusk. Sitting outside on the small deck into the night was super relaxing and we’ll definitely be back!

The cabin is beautiful, cozy, and private. Brian was delightful and eager to help when we needed it. You may want to bring a camp stove if you plan to do a lot of cooking and don't use the toilet right before bed. The incinerator is a little loud.

Weekend Trip to Alder Grove Retreat

Absolutely one of the best experiences we have had with booking a stay anywhere! Our children were able to pet the horses, visit the goats/lamb, and booked horse back riding lessons while we were visiting. Michelle is absolutely wonderful and SO sweet! HIGHLY recommend booking!

Weekend Trip to Alder Grove Retreat
Alder Grove Retreat was such a beautiful space! It was surrounded by trees and had a beautiful view of the forest. We really enjoyed the sauna and the peacefulness that the space offered. Dawson was very communicative and the experience felt well thought-out. Dawson and Gabrielle are also wonderful people if you happen to run to into them! Highly recommend and would come again

1 night at The Village at Rainier
We only stayed one night but it was such a lovely little cabin, fully stocked for a multi-night stay. It was easy to find and very clean! We would definitely choose to stay again if we're ever visiting Mt. Rainier in the future.
