We are located in southern Oregon near Crater Lake NP, just off of hwy 62, part of the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, more commonly known as the "highway of waterfalls" and near the little town of Prospect on what is known as the beautiful side of Crater Lake NP. Three waterfalls, the Prospect Cafe, and the Historic Hotel are all within a two-mile radius. If you're after that famous pie at Beckie's Cafe, you are 10 minutes close.
Our 100 acre ranch allows us to host guests in their own RV's, at camp/tent sites, or in our new A-frame Cabin all located in private, and even secluded, sites. Several well maintained trails wind throughout the property and can be enjoyed by guests. Nature enthusiasts enjoy the hiking, wildlife viewing, and the beautiful ponds and woods.
Crater Lake Woodlands is part of the historic Katydid Ranch. Once owned by Boise Cascade who used it both for growing seedlings to replant logged mountain sides and as a vacation getaway for their executives, the story of Katydid Ranch goes back to the early 1900's when it's owner named "Katy" used it as the "half-way" overnight lodging for horse & buggy guests traveling to Crater Lake from the Rogue Valley. Leaving the valley at the crack of dawn, they could arrive at "Katy's" by nightfall, in time for a meal and sound mountain sleep. They'd hitch up at dawn and make it to Crater Lake by nightfall.
Historically, the first residents were the Rogue River Takelma and Latgawa native Americans. Latgawa lived in the Rogue Valley of interior southwest Oregon. In their own language "Latgawa" means "those living in the “uplands," though they were also known as the Walumskni by the neighboring Klamath tribes. Specifically, Ha-ne-sakh. The Latgawa were one of two peoples who spoke the Takelma language. They were hunters, gatherers, weavers and fished the Rogue River. They were known to have a stationary settlement and trading post at the Katydid Ranch location. Their tribes lived in the upper Rogue River area extending beyond Prospect and Union up to Crater Lake.
Since we've owned the Ranch, we've maintained the custom of welcoming overnight guests and at the same time, we continue to honor the protected wildlife designation given to it back in the 50's. Wildlife viewing is one the delights we share with our guests. Please be mindful of native wildlife keeping dogs on leash so as to avoid chasing and barking at wildlife. Thank you.
The animals here include, but are not limited to black tail deer, elk, fox, coyote, ringtailed cat, raccoon, skunk, and also typically farther up the mountain are the elusive mountain lions and black bear which we have never spotted on our property. The ponds and surrounding area are home to migratory to the Oregon Pond turtle, Canada geese, quail, wild turkeys, various owls including the great horned owls, hawks, cranes and eagles. Our pond bird watcher friends spotted Common Mergansers, Ring Necked Ducks, Canada Geese…and a Loon. The bull frogs orchestrate the evening and can be heard at times throughout the day. Katydid Ranch is a wildlife sanctuary.
The flora and fauna of the forest is abundant and diverse. This land is home to many native grasses, ferns, and berries, wild flowers, as well as many other edible and medicinal plants and numerous varieties of mushrooms. If you are visiting during blackberry season, feel free to pick, pick, pick and indulge.
Katydid trees include old growth Douglas Fir, Ponderosa, Sugar, and Jeffrey Pine, various Cedar tree varieties, Incense Cedar, the majestic Pacific Madrone, Alder, Big Leaf Maple, Black and White Oak, Dog wood, and Vine Maple. NOTE: Please be aware that the mosquitos can be very bad here at times.
Power has recently been going out more frequently due to the Pacific Power's "advanced safety settings". When the power is out the well pump is out, so there is no water. I am happy to provide buckets of river water for "flushing toilets" and pay for showers at the Klamoya Travel Center. I will not be giving refunds for a situation over which I have no control.

Our property has been in business in one way or another for over 70 years. The stick built cabins are pre 1950's and no one really knows for sure how old they truly are. We are located on Fort Creek named after the creek that ran through Fort Klamath. Fort Creek is a beautiful 30' wide meandering creek that runs the length of the property north to south. We offer free use of our Old Town Canoes to paddle along it's extent and on up creek to a beaver damn. There is a fun hiking trail that runs over two bridges that span the creek, one covered and one floating. We also offer free catch and release fishing, there are Rainbow and Brown Trout in our waters.
Fort Klamath is the birthplace and home of the US Army 1st Cavalry and our property is located on the the Forts Southeastern grounds. We are 9 miles from the southern border of the National Park and 23 miles from the southern Rim and Rim Village.

Welcome to ten acres of open pasture and mixed forest tucked into the hills just outside Glide, Oregon. The land feels spacious yet protected — bordered by trees and crossed by a spring-fed creek that runs year-round through the property.
The creek is shallow in most places, clear and cool, with smooth stones along the bottom. In one bend it widens into a natural swimming hole that stays refreshing through the heat of summer. You can hear the water moving from much of the property steady and calming. A rustic wooden suspection bridge crosses the creek and leads to four tent sites on the far side. Once you cross the bridge, it feels separate — quieter, more tucked in, with filtered light through the trees and a sense of being immersed in nature.
The tent sites are spaced for privacy and simplicity. You wake to birdsong and bubbling crrek sounds. Evenings bring shifting light across the pasture, frogs near the water, and a wide, dark sky once the sun drops behind the trees.
On the main side of the property there is a designated RV site with easy access and open sky above. It sits comfortably within the landscape while remaining separate from the tent sites across the creek.
There is an outdoor shared living room modified carport and one communal fire-pit, where social interactions can be curated with ice breakers and treats.
The 199 sq. ft. yurt sits in the garden area. It has its own small yard space, a short porch, a queen bed, and a simple table and chair. It is uncluttered and comfortable — a quiet place to sleep while still feeling close to the outdoors. The surrounding garden changes with the season, bringing fresh green growth in spring, warmth and fullness in summer.
Friendly horses, goats and chickens live on the property and are accustomed to visitors. They often come near the fence line, curious and calm. You may hear them moving in the pasture or calling softly to one another in the early morning. Their presence adds to the pastoral rhythm of the land without interrupting the quiet.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5-Star Review for Umpqua National Forest Resort Campground
I had an excellent stay at the Umpqua National Forest Resort Campground. The location is one of its strongest features—it's perfectly situated near some of the most beautiful and iconic spots in the area. Within a short drive, you can visit Watson Falls, Toketee Falls, and the incredible Umpqua Hot Springs. Having such easy access to these destinations made the experience even more enjoyable and convenient.
The campground itself is well maintained, peaceful, and offers a great balance of comfort while still being immersed in nature. The cabins and facilities were clean, and the overall atmosphere made it easy to relax after a full day of exploring.
One improvement I would recommend is creating a more clearly designated and easier-to-follow path to the bathhouse, especially at night. Additionally, it would be great if the exterior lights around the cabins and common facilities were dimmed or turned off earlier in the evening. The bright lights stayed on late into the night, which made stargazing difficult. Given how incredible the night sky is in this area, preserving that dark-sky experience would make the stay even more special.
Overall, this is an outstanding campground in an unbeatable location. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Umpqua National Forest.

Weekend Trip to Ruby’s Cabin
We loved Jay's well thought out cabin. Everything was stocked well, clean and cute. Next time we are only bringing food and clothes, and our dogs.
Our dogs played ball in the front yard off leash and had a blast. We played board games and got the peace and quiet we much needed. Many trails on the property to walk. Many forest service roads and places to explore. There is a binder in the cabin with really good local information including swimming holes. We definitely want to return.

Great place. I used the cabin to stay warm in the cold November time. Amazing host - explained and had an excellent map to catch all the waterfalls and mile markers. The site is great - extremely close to bathrooms and shower which are super warm inside and water. Small little cabin for the night but has loads of extras. Microwave and little fridge as needed.

I have no notes - Umquilla's Last Resort checked all my boxes at every step: my dog and I loved it. Our cute mini-cabin had energy-efficient heat, microwave, and fridge allowing more food diversity than I usually get on my annual Thanksgiving trip. The bed was comfortable and as a single traveler with a dog: the bunk bed gave us a lot of extra room to stretch out.
The showers, restrooms, and dish washing area were spotless and warm. The staff was happy, kind, and showed visible support for LGTBQIA+ travelers.
My dog loved that we could hike in the national forest without getting in the car which conveniently could charge via the EV charging station in the campgrounds. I mostly explored between the campsite and I-5 due to there being a charger at the campground and dozens of options in Roseberg (or on my trip in via I-5 South a good high-speed charger in Sutherlin.)
Self-service paid internet access (24h, 72h, and 5 day options) provided suitable bandwidth for unexpected video calls and web browsing.
It was all perfect, worked well, easy to spot from the road, and in a beautiful region with lots of activities. A true oasis for travelers just an hour east of I-5.

Weekend Trip to Umpqua's Last Resort
I absolutely loved staying here in my deluxe cabin! It was the perfect personal retreat I needed, the cabin was super clean and cozy, nice fluffy bath towels and the Wolfgang Puck coffee pods were a treat! The park was quiet and at night I could hear the river from my cabin, there is a nice trail down to the river and I was able to spend time by the river in the evening. The location is so close to many waterfalls! Toby and Dustin are super nice hosts! The shared restrooms were clean and the showers hot! I loved the small trails to wander on next to the park. I cant wait to return as this will be my place to stay this coming year, thank you for providing such a nice place to have a get away from the world! My only request would be to allow for a late check out if needed but I ended up leaving early to see more waterfalls!

About
Spread out over around 1.6 million acres in the central Cascade Mountain Range, the Willamette National Forest is home to many of Oregon’s popular backpacking and hiking areas, and its proximity to urban hubs such as Portland, Salem, and Eugene attracts day-trippers and weekend campers in summer. It's also a popular spot for nature photography, owing to its massive expanses of old-growth forest, wildflower-strewn meadows, and seven major mountain peaks. About a fifth of the forest is designated wilderness area and can only be explored on foot or by horseback.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for anglers: Breitenbush Campground offers spacious campsites and easy access to trout fishing on the Breitenbush River.
- Best for quiet camping: Secret Campground has only six sites, making it a good option for getting away from the crowds.
- Best for water lovers: Slide Creek Campground offers easy access to a beach at Cougar Reservoir and is a quick drive from the thermal soaking pools at Terwilliger Hot Springs.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Campsites are released at 7am Pacific daily, six months in advance. Popular spots (notably cabins and fire lookouts) can book up almost immediately. If you're after a hot spot, make sure you are up and ready to book as soon as it's made available.
- Choose less-accessible spots for a better chance at a campsite. First-come, first-served sites near major cities fill up faster than sites that require a longer drive.
- Consider coming mid-week. Weekend campsites can be challenging to secure, particularly in summer, but if you can come earlier in the week to claim your spot, you’ll have better chances.
When to go
The Willamette National Forest can attribute its lush, green appearance to plenty of heavy rainfall, and while weather in late spring can be relatively warm, it’s often too rainy for some people to camp. Higher elevations also get a fair amount of snowfall, and road closures lasting from late autumn until well into spring are not uncommon. July and August are the most popular and crowded months for camping, though September is usually pretty warm and dry, too, but with fewer crowds.
Know before you go
- Download maps for offline use and check for road closures. While snow-related closures are rare in summer, mudslides and planned road maintenance are possible.
- Bring plenty of insect repellant, particularly if you are camping near one of the region’s many lakes or reservoirs. The mosquitos can be brutal.
- Forest fires aren’t uncommon in Oregon, and campfire bans are often seen in summer. In times of extreme danger, cooking stoves that use open flames may be banned.
- Dogs are allowed in Willamette National Forest but must be kept on at least a six-foot leash.

This spot was great, especially considering that we went on the "severe heat warning" weekend. The shade from the trees kept the site at a nice mid 80s, and it got cool at night down into the 60s. Only downside was the website and Google made it seem like the reservoir would be full of water and RIGHT THERE for us to get into... the reservoir was reallllllly dried up and we had to drive to get anywhere close to a swimmable spot.
Besides that: clean campground, plenty of space, great fire pit with built-in cooking spot, quiet and peaceful, bathrooms clean - would come back and stay here again for sure!

Loud families in Broken Bowl (single mom riding a scooter with 5 teens blasting music into the night, and then those teens running through all the campsites)
Squatters in the reservation only site (Puma). Could be July 4th weekend. Campsite manager said the locals hate the rule changes and will stand their ground and refuse to follow the rules. Family (older male, playing dumb female, 2 teenage sons, one was aggressive). 3 cars parked on the site. Unsure if they carried weapons. Be careful.

Decent campground, but pretty close to the highway and the road noise is pretty intense, especially the big trucks going by. Very small Hackleman creek nearby. OK campground if you need a place to stop, but wouldn't recommend making a a special trip.

One of four clearest lakes in the world! This bright blue alpine lake is so crystal clear you can see to the bottom even in the deepest parts. Lack of vegetation means no fish or murky bottoms. Just perfect swimming and kayaking conditions. Lots of butterflies and blue dragonflies and hardly anyone on the lake. If you can, paddle across the lake to camp.

Make sure to visit the hot springs at the resort as they are AMAING! The community there is quite homey and inviting. I will make it a yearly visit now as it was indeed needed to refresh, relax, and renew my spirit.

This is my favorite campsite in all of Oregon. I've visited North Waldo Lake nearly every summer since I was born. It's great for hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, stargazing, and just reading and napping on the beach. Trails are beautiful and the water is so clear you can see the bottom from the middle of the lake. It can be cold at night and there are mosquitos usually until late July, but other than that it is flawless. It's Oregon's best kept secret:)

We visited on a Monday night in early April which turned out to be the right recipe for a deserted campground. Not only was it free but it was just us and a few day-time fishermen.
Our campsite came equipped with a peninsula that extended out into the lake and was perfect for both kids and fishermen. The campsite itself is located back in the trees on an old concrete pad. It's also a great spot for large gatherings (spots for 5+ rvs) but would make for open and exposed quarters with strangers if the campsite is full.
Expect moderate noise from traffic on the nearby highway, especially for the sites on the east side of the campground. The tent-only walk-in sites also looked nice.
