The Redwoods Bend Retreat is a place to get away from it all. Located on the Yurok reservation right on the Klamath River just outside Orick, CA, we are "off the grid", through a Redwood forest and over a mountain down into the Klamath River valley. We have a 5 acre meadow, and orchard with 50 trees, peaches pears, apples, cherries, plums, pluots, apricots and grapes. We are right on the Klamath river. It's a great place to come and recharge your internal batteries. There is no cellphone service and none of our sites have internet service.
Our Main House was built in 1952 and retains the flavor of the 50’s. It houses a kitchen, dining hall, a living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower.
Our log-built Lodge overlooks the Klamath River with 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom and wrap-around covered porch.
Our Pumpkin and Blue Cottages. They are close to the double Yellow Shower house and toilets, and they have hot and cold running water, a propane cooktop, and a wood stove for heat. We do NOT have refrigeration, and our solar batteries or generator provides us lights at night. Campers who use our Cottages may use their own sleeping bags, but we have beds with mattresses and pillows and clean bedding. We also have an Upper Barn bedroom and half-bath rental.
Our two-story Riverview Yurt appeals to folks who want a full kitchen, a private shower and flush toilet overlooking the Klamath river from our 50 x 50 foot upper deck. Luscious to sit outside and watch the river flow by during the day, and to let the water lull you to sleep at night. For families (up to 8), folks who like to fish, or old friends who just want a very special get-away.
Each of our six campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Our Maple River, Grotto River and Pepperwood River sites overlook the gorgeous Klamath River. Our Morning Meadow, Orchard Meadow, and Deer Meadow sites are close to our 5 acre meadow where blacktail deer graze in the evenings.
We have a Yellow double Shower House with two separate sides, each with a toilet, sink and shower and on demand hot water, so folks don't have to wait. There's also a new Camp Shower at the corner of the orchard for our campers, along with two outhouses for camper use, one at the bottom of the road down to the meadow, and another in the woods just past Deer Meadow Camp.
We see lots of wildlife; silver foxes, a bald eagle and a family of river otters downstream, vultures, blue heron, occasionally an osprey will fly overhead clutching a freshly caught salmon and call to each other to brag about it! There are rare sightings of timid black bears who run from humans, but sometimes can be seen grazing in the meadow with the black-tail deer.
We're surrounded by old logging trails made by the lumber companies 80 years ago when they clear cut the old growth redwood on our side of the mountain, and now it's completely reforested with 200 ft tall Doug Fir, Madrone, Cedar, Oak, other pine species and Pepper wood trees, and we have written permission from the Green Diamond company to allow guest to hike on their adjacent properties.

We offer a rustic, old-fashioned camping experience. It’s a mix of open field and scattered trees, with both RVs and tent campers on site. Neighbors will be nearby, but the vibe is quiet and relaxed—especially in the off-season, when you might have the place nearly to yourself.
The Klamath River is just over the levee—a short walk from your site—with great access for fishing, swimming, or simply relaxing by the water. The river is world-famous for salmon and steelhead fishing (license required). August and September are peak fishing months, so expect a few early morning engines from folks heading out.
We’re only 4 miles off Highway 101, far enough to enjoy peace and quiet without traffic noise. Wildlife is part of the experience here, so please stash your food at night to keep critters out of camp.
Outdoor lovers will find plenty to explore nearby—hiking and biking trails, the Trees of Mystery, Jet Boat Tours, and, of course, miles of redwood forest to get lost in.

The Fairy Forest is 4 acres of redwood trees one mile from the magical city of Trinidad, CA. People have been camping in our meadow since the 1950's, and I'm happy to carry on the tradition, by opening it up to you. There was a fire on the property in 1901 which left the burnt out hollow stumps which you'll see by the shower. There's one old growth redwood on the property, behind the glampy tent, but everything else in roughly 120 years old. Every year we try to make your glamping experience better and better. This year, we've added an artisan picnic table, built on site, and some solar lights leading to the shower. Outdoor sink and cook space is next on our list! There used to be two campsites on our property, but we closed down one of them to give guests in the glampy tent exclusive usage of the outdoor shower and porta potty. We are also renting out our cabin this year, which has been our home for the last 3 years.
There's 10 local beaches to explore in the area, great little restaurants and businesses, and countless trails- including Strawberry Rock, which is right down the street from us. We're 19 miles away from Orick, which is the gateway to Fern Canyon (make a reservation in advance) and all the trails with old growth redwoods. And we're 16 miles from Arcata, a vibrant, colorful and creative city that is home to the first farmer's market in California, which is quite the experience if you find yourself here on a Saturday.

Osprey’s perch is a small campsite perched above the Salmon River. The pit toilet is just downhill from the camp at the end of a trail winding down through the meadow and to the right. There is private access to secluded swimming and fishing holes on the lower Salmon River down the meadow trail and to the left. A bridge provides shelter from rain if needed. The area is known for its world class steelhead fishing and is unparalleled in its natural beauty. The elk even stop by occasionally on a late winter/early spring morning if you are lucky enough to get the timing right… I hope you enjoy our most recently additions, tent pads on a nice deep bed of chips, and a dog run for your best friend!

The campground is remotely located on private property and perfectly located for excursions to the Pacific Ocean, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, the Smith River National Recreation Area, and the Pacific Coast Ranges and mountain lakes such as the Devil's Punchbowl, Buck Lake, and Raspberry Lake.
Relax and free you mind while camping on 120+ acres of private property under starry skies with almost no light or noise pollution. You are not alone on the mountain as other people live here in the wild. You only have access to the campground and a nearby pond. A locked gate with code access. The road to get there is two and a half miles up the mountain, the first mile is paved and the other mile and a half is gravel. The road is maintained by the county and used daily by others that live and work here. In the surrounding area you can enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, surfing, beachcombing, birdwatching, and countless other outdoor activities. French Hill Trail is a few more miles up the mountain road.
The campsites have picnic tables and fire rings, and campers are provided with 5 gallons of potable water. An outdoor, COLD-water Artesian shower, out in the open mountain air with the wild things and an outhouse with a compost toilet are also provided. Bundles of firewood are available for an extra charge when you book your campsite.
The campsites are set within a deciduous and pine forest at about 1913 feet in elevation. There is a pond on the property, but its purpose is for wildlife habitat ONLY, so water activities are NOT allowed. NO swimming, NO fishing, NO boating, NO trapping, etc. The wild things live here!
The property owner has a dog, three cats, and a menagerie of yard birds such as turkeys, peacocks, guinea hens, chickens, ducks, geese, etc. They do make noise! Kirk has lived off-grid for over twenty years and holds a wealth of information about the Gasquet/Del Norte County area.
Perhaps the most interesting feature of the property is that it has had documented Sasquatch encounters over the past twenty years that have been published in "Tribal Bigfoot" (D. Paulides 2009). Kirk can tell you about his experiences with this and other phenomena on the property.

Humboldt hideaway is a small intimate SHARED space with residents. The outdoor kitchen, deck with a view, and campfire ring are all connected to the main resident house. There are places of seclusion, but much of it is shared outdoor space.
Humboldt Hideaway is a small off-the-grid LGBTQ+ queer land project in Northern California. It is set on 12 acres of hilly terrain in the mixed fir and oak woods of Humboldt County, a half-hour east of Arcata. Back in 2001, when it was established, it was undeveloped with nothing on it. It has since been built up with the scrappy efforts of amateur creative dreamers.
It is a home and resource to extended LGBTQ+ communities by being a small-scale rural resource for learning and sharing useful rural living skills and being a destination for visits, artist and activist retreats, and host to small groups and events.
Anyone is welcome at Humboldt Hideaway, but please understand that it is an intentional place committed to anti-oppression values. It is important that it remain a safer space for people identifying as queer and/or transgender, as well as a supportive space for women and people of color to freely be. Please make sure you do not anticipate any concerns/problems with this.
NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: The property is conveniently located midway between the coast/redwoods and the Trinity River/Trinity Alps backpacking. It is a 45 minute drive to the coast of Trinidad, which has some of the most lovely coves and beaches and Patrick's Point State Park. It is a half hour drive to the coastal Ma-le'l dunes. And it is a half hour drive inland to swimming holes on the Trinity River.
OFF-THE-GRID: The place is off-the-grid, no internet, only limited solar power, an on-demand propane water heater, and heated by woodstoves. Structures are a combination of natural building, salvaged, and new materials, with a mix of low-tech alternative technologies- all built with lots of love and help from friends.
BOOKING A GROUP: There is potentially both cabin space and camping spots. The property can accommodate a group of up to 10 people. If you wish to book a group, please get in touch and we'll have you book all of the spaces- including some that are not currently listed, as they are in the shared lodge space.
WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY: There is a guest room in the shared lodge space if you want to have a wheelchair accessible room. The lodge has a ramp for accessible entrance. This room is not listed, but get in touch if you want to book it.

This property is nestled in a little valley one ridge over from the Mad River which flows to the ocean 5 miles away as the crow flies. Warmer in the summer and just beyond the fog belt we can have 80 degrees in the summer while the coast is in the 60's. A bit colder in the winter than the coast, we have been known to have a dusting or a couple inches of snow (although it never sticks around). The beginnings of Warren creek form the eastern boundary to the property where salmonids have been tracked by Fish and Game. A year round spring feeds a pond which then feeds another creek on the west side of the property. Besides field and meadow there is lush forest with a variety of trees including: Cascara, Willow, Alder, Redwood, Cedar, Maple, Spruce and Fir.
This land was the home of one of the richest race car drivers in the area who legend says had regular shoot outs with the police! Since then the land has been cleansed, blessed and used for many sacred gatherings, weddings and ceremonies and was home to a moonlodge-TreeWoman for several years. There we had regular new moon gatherings for local women. It is an honor and privilege to share this space with you.

Enjoy your own private meadow cabin at the end of the lane, just a minute walk from the communal parking area. Rustic yet comfy, leave your TV behind and cozy up next to your campfire; savor morning coffee with the resident deer and towering Redwoods. Bike down scenic West End Road to Blue Lake and the Mad River. Make a stop at the local brewery after a stroll on the river trail. It is an easy 15 minute drive to the nearest beaches with hiking and biking trails nearby. In the winter, take a 40 minute drive to Horse mountain where you can cross country ski with a distant view of the ocean.
This land is sacred to us and has been the site of multiple spiritual ceremonies, workshops and seasonal gatherings, including wedding celebrations. You may see us working around the land occasionally as we live in the main house also on the property. This is not a perfectly groomed lawn type of area. We do mow paths and sitting spaces but the ground can be uneven at times and much growth is kept natural for wildlife habitat. As stewards of this property, we value the wildlife safety and honor the presence of all creatures with minimal disruption. Wildlife that have visited include but not limited to: deer, fox, bear, skunk, opossum, mountain lion, owls and hawks. You may hear our ducks on occasion but fear not, they are trained not to attack! Our two cats may come to inspect visitors and may decide to join you for morning coffee in your covered outdoor lounging area.
The Meadow cabin was originally built to house our extensive water filtration system, then expanded as a horse shelter and garden space as well as a honey processing house. We affectionately call it our "Honey House". On several occasions it was the site of regular African initiation medicine journeys. The fire pit in front of the cabin was created as a sacred fire spot.
We strive for organic chemical free living as much as possible. Soaps, shampoos, and cleaning supplies are provided. If you bring your own please be conscientious. Please no highly scented perfumes or lotions.
There is an infrared sauna on site as well, convenient to your shower and tub. Directions for use are in the informational binder.
The indoor studio style living space is shoes off so bring some clean indoor shoes/slippers to wear if desired. Heating is by a small electric fireplace/stove. There is a queen size bed and a single overhead bunk (max 250lbs). Kitchen amenities include a hotplate, toaster/bake oven, electric tea kettle and skillet and a kitchen sink as well as a large refrigerator. This is a solar powered household with filtered well water. Hot water outdoor shower, tub and custom made pooper. Our home made compost toilet is simple to use. Preferably solids only (feel free to pee in the field) after which a scoop of cedar shavings is dumped on top. Cell phone service may be spotty. Just beyond the fire pit is often better reception.
Please drive slow on the 1/3 mile long gravel drive to get to our sanctuary at the end of the lane. Our country lane is perfect for a stroll under the stars. At times you can even hear the roar of the ocean approximately 5 miles to the west as the crow flies. It is very dark at night with no street lights or bright porch lights so make sure you bring a flashlight.
We do have neighbors and you may hear others doing yardwork, calling for their animals or the sound of chickens, occasionally dogs and ducks. This space is a peaceful retreat but please do not expect complete silence all the time.
We have lived here for over 35 years and have experience on the rivers, oceans and trails and are happy to share information on where to go and what to see if so desired.

The Redwoods Bend Retreat is a place to get away from it all. Located on the Yurok reservation right on the Klamath River just outside Orick, CA, we are "off the grid", through a Redwood forest and over a mountain down into the Klamath River valley. We have a 5 acre meadow, and orchard with 50 trees, peaches pears, apples, cherries, plums, pluots, apricots and grapes. We are right on the Klamath river. It's a great place to come and recharge your internal batteries. There is no cellphone service and none of our sites have internet service.
Our Main House was built in 1952 and retains the flavor of the 50’s. It houses a kitchen, dining hall, a living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower.
Our log-built Lodge overlooks the Klamath River with 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom and wrap-around covered porch.
Our Pumpkin and Blue Cottages. They are close to the double Yellow Shower house and toilets, and they have hot and cold running water, a propane cooktop, and a wood stove for heat. We do NOT have refrigeration, and our solar batteries or generator provides us lights at night. Campers who use our Cottages may use their own sleeping bags, but we have beds with mattresses and pillows and clean bedding. We also have an Upper Barn bedroom and half-bath rental.
Our two-story Riverview Yurt appeals to folks who want a full kitchen, a private shower and flush toilet overlooking the Klamath river from our 50 x 50 foot upper deck. Luscious to sit outside and watch the river flow by during the day, and to let the water lull you to sleep at night. For families (up to 8), folks who like to fish, or old friends who just want a very special get-away.
Each of our six campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Our Maple River, Grotto River and Pepperwood River sites overlook the gorgeous Klamath River. Our Morning Meadow, Orchard Meadow, and Deer Meadow sites are close to our 5 acre meadow where blacktail deer graze in the evenings.
We have a Yellow double Shower House with two separate sides, each with a toilet, sink and shower and on demand hot water, so folks don't have to wait. There's also a new Camp Shower at the corner of the orchard for our campers, along with two outhouses for camper use, one at the bottom of the road down to the meadow, and another in the woods just past Deer Meadow Camp.
We see lots of wildlife; silver foxes, a bald eagle and a family of river otters downstream, vultures, blue heron, occasionally an osprey will fly overhead clutching a freshly caught salmon and call to each other to brag about it! There are rare sightings of timid black bears who run from humans, but sometimes can be seen grazing in the meadow with the black-tail deer.
We're surrounded by old logging trails made by the lumber companies 80 years ago when they clear cut the old growth redwood on our side of the mountain, and now it's completely reforested with 200 ft tall Doug Fir, Madrone, Cedar, Oak, other pine species and Pepper wood trees, and we have written permission from the Green Diamond company to allow guest to hike on their adjacent properties.

Tucked away at the edge of the Klamath Glen neighborhood, our family-owned campground has been welcoming guests for over 40 years. Surrounded by towering trees in the heart of Redwood National Forest and just a few minutes from the Pacific Ocean, this is a true hidden gem on California’s North Coast.
We offer a rustic, old-fashioned camping experience. It’s a mix of open field and scattered trees, with both RVs and tent campers on site. Neighbors will be nearby, but the vibe is quiet and relaxed—especially in the off-season, when you might have the place nearly to yourself.
The Klamath River is just over the levee—a short walk from your site—with great access for fishing, swimming, or simply relaxing by the water. The river is world-famous for salmon and steelhead fishing (license required). August and September are peak fishing months, so expect a few early morning engines from folks heading out.
We’re only 4 miles off Highway 101, far enough to enjoy peace and quiet without traffic noise. Wildlife is part of the experience here, so please stash your food at night to keep critters out of camp.
Outdoor lovers will find plenty to explore nearby—hiking and biking trails, the Trees of Mystery, Jet Boat Tours, and, of course, miles of redwood forest to get lost in.

The Fairy Forest is 4 acres of redwood trees one mile from the magical city of Trinidad, CA. People have been camping in our meadow since the 1950's, and I'm happy to carry on the tradition, by opening it up to you. There was a fire on the property in 1901 which left the burnt out hollow stumps which you'll see by the shower. There's one old growth redwood on the property, behind the glampy tent, but everything else in roughly 120 years old. Every year we try to make your glamping experience better and better. This year, we've added an artisan picnic table, built on site, and some solar lights leading to the shower. Outdoor sink and cook space is next on our list! There used to be two campsites on our property, but we closed down one of them to give guests in the glampy tent exclusive usage of the outdoor shower and porta potty. We are also renting out our cabin this year, which has been our home for the last 3 years.
There's 10 local beaches to explore in the area, great little restaurants and businesses, and countless trails- including Strawberry Rock, which is right down the street from us. We're 19 miles away from Orick, which is the gateway to Fern Canyon (make a reservation in advance) and all the trails with old growth redwoods. And we're 16 miles from Arcata, a vibrant, colorful and creative city that is home to the first farmer's market in California, which is quite the experience if you find yourself here on a Saturday.

Osprey’s Perch is set up well for serving as a base camp for local activities like hunting, fishing, kayaking, rafting, day hiking, or just spending time on the river at one of the few private access points in existence. Camp is set up in a way that enables you to roast some brussel sprouts, or bake a pie if you so desire. I mean, how many camps offer that! Osprey’s perch is a small campsite perched above the Salmon River. The pit toilet is just downhill from the camp at the end of a trail winding down through the meadow and to the right. There is private access to secluded swimming and fishing holes on the lower Salmon River down the meadow trail and to the left. A bridge provides shelter from rain if needed. The area is known for its world class steelhead fishing and is unparalleled in its natural beauty. The elk even stop by occasionally on a late winter/early spring morning if you are lucky enough to get the timing right… I hope you enjoy our most recently additions, tent pads on a nice deep bed of chips, and a dog run for your best friend!

Had a last minute change of plans and Bo was so helpful in accommodating. The hot shower was exactly what was needed! The site is beautiful - a bit tough for our 19' vehicle, but any car/pickup/SUV would be perfect. The fire pit was beautiful and the option of having some shelter for any tent campers provides great peace of mind.

Accurately described by the host and easy to find. Accessible on public roads and pull onto a solid grass area. Electric hook up and water worked well. Also a serviceable picnic table. Bathrooms with showers had hot water, were clean and well maintained. Site was pretty quiet (just two visitors) and occasional dog barks from the residents. It worked well for four nights and I'd come back.

The tent was nice and there was a heater. I liked having the comforts of a real bed (that was actually comfortable) and be in the middle of the redwoods and be still close to nature. I loved that it was so close to Trinidad and the freeway as-well. The shower was hard to get warm but it wasn't so bad.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Jacob's Riverside Gem! It's rustic enough to feel adventurous and homey enough to feel warm and comfy in the winter. It's obvious that Jacob has put a lot of heart and soul into this little cabin because of all the artistic touches you will find throughout. The firewood was well stocked, the property was beautiful with many fresh fungi to observe, and the little kitchen was perfect for making delicious meals. The fridge is quite small with no freezer, so if you want to bring fresh food for cooking, I recommend bringing a cooler. The shower is not far from the cabin, so it's easy to get a hot shower in and run back inside to the warm cabin. Make sure to bring your own bath towel. The bathroom is farther from the cabin, but I enjoyed the walk there, especially at night when I could look at the stars.
We didn't get to enjoy the outdoor space very much, seeing as we visited in winter, but we definitely want to come back in the summer to enjoy all that this little cabin and the Smith River area has to offer. If you're looking for a quaint place to stay while adventuring in the area, you've found the right place!

We had a great time camping here! The site was beautiful tucked amongst the redwoods and it felt very protected and private. We had our dog with us and felt comfortable with her off leash since the campsite was so contained. It was really nice to have a bathroom and picnic table too. The short nature trail was cute and we found a few banana slugs! The written directions from the host were great and super easy to follow to find camp. Highly recommend staying on Chris’s land for your next weekend in the redwoods!

Patti is the best! So responsive, kind and welcoming. The space is beautiful too, with big trees and the river near by. It was about 20 to get to the Newton B scenic Road. Don’t miss it!
Traveled with our dog and 21’ travel trailer. No issues with access. Do note there are skunks around at night; they keep mole and voles populations down and are a part of the community too- just be aware. Also saw a few curios big neighbor dogs when we walked our pup up along the service road by the park in the morning. No trouble though.

We ended up being the only campers on an early November day, so Wayne graciously let us choose whichever site we liked. We pitched our tent right by the communal fire pit and picnic tables instead of a designated site. The ground was easy to drive stakes into, and Wayne even offered more substantial stakes in case they were needed.
His sweet dog (Cowboy) and horse (Coco) paid some very welcome visits. They're sneaky for treats, so watch your back! ;)
A hose is nearby that supplies filtered fresh spring water, and the toilet room is very convenient. The hot showers were down due to some construction, but we enjoyed our stay a lot! We would recommend this place as a nice getaway, or as a stop on your way to the redwoods or Eureka (we did both).

About
Centrally located along Highway 101 within the Redwoods National and State Parks complex, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is, unsurprisingly, known for its towering coastal redwood trees that drink in the morning fog and cast a serene calm over the forest floor. The park’s extraordinary Fern Canyon hike runs along a one-mile section of Home Creek where a canopy of green ferns towers 50 to 80 feet overhead on either side. Less famously, the Prairie Creek also contains a large coastal section with sandy beaches and an inland section with meadows home to Roosevelt elk. Overall, the park contains 75 miles of trails with exceptional hiking, biking, and wildlife watching opportunities—plus gorgeous campsites accommodating tents, RVs, and cabin campers.

Tips for snagging a campsite
- All Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park campsites are reservable 6 months in advance online or by calling 1-800-444-7275.
- Make sure to reserve early if you’d like to camp on a week or during the summer season when campgrounds fill up.
- The Elk Prairie Campground has a hike-in/bike-in section for visitors arriving on foot or bicycle.
When to go
Summer is Prairie Creek’s busy season, when highs in the 80s and lows in the 50s make for comfortable camping. Just be sure to bring rain gear and a jacket for the common summer morning fog. Winter is also a special season here, when the forest is lush with rainfall and crowds are smaller.
Know before you go
- Between May 15 and September 15, the park requires a day-use permit for the popular Gold Bluffs Beach and Fern Canyon areas. Permits are reservable 30 days in advance online through the Redwood Parks Conservancy, although permits are not required with a Gold Bluffs Beach camping reservation.
- The park’s old growth redwood population and its 280 redwood groves have earned it a World Heritage Site & International Biosphere Preserve designation.
- Don’t be surprised if you hear high-pitched screams or whistles between August and October—this is Roosevelt elk mating season, when male elk bugling battles are frequent occurrences.
- The other two state parks in the Redwoods National and State Park complex, Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, lie further north of Prairie Creek near Crescent City.

Gold Bluffs Beach Campground
We enjoyed a very peaceful camping experience at Gold Bluffs and would camp here again. The quietness was appreciated, with the night sounds of owls and coyotes in the distance. The location provided a wonderful view of stars without the obstacles of light pollution. The portable toilets were very clean.

Just FYI it is not permitted to drive a camper trailer here, and it's an unpaved road. "Gold Bluffs Beach campground is cabover camper- or tent-only; no trailers of any kind are allowed on Davison Road." Awesome. You need more than a few nights here to really enjoy all the area has to offer. Great hikes, long and short, ocean, elks practically in your face, many super duper sites (only a few meh, inlcuding the ones right on the prarie), clean well-stocked bathrooms. Be prepared for damp cold in the mornings even in the height of summer. It's not that cold but the damp can get to you unless you start with a quick hike or fire. Beautiful by midday. Really excellent place, will def be back.

Very clean and well kept campground. We found that the park workers were very knowledgeable and kind. We traveled from East TN to take in all the wild and wonder at this park! We did a beautiful 12 mile hike! We plan to come back ASAP!

Report from your Shirtless Host Steve. The Elk are starting to drop their antlers in the park now.. it is quite a site to see ;; I saw two in a roll stick their antler in the ground and it pop right off ;; this is the frist time I have ever seen that happen;; there is at least 8 or 9 Elk running a round with only one Antler on one side and a few with on Antlers at all now;; Of corse there is a lot of them that still have both,, SOME THING YOU SHOULD KNOW IS THAT IN THE PARK YOU CAN NOT PICK THEM UP AND KEEP THEM;;; So if you get a chance stop by the Park and maybe you will get to see one pop one off it is quite the site to see ;;; Each year they will grow new ones and each time they are a little bigger,,,

I want to thank. Hip camp. ,,,, along with all the campers that stop in ,, I was surprised on how many have stopped by the park to say HI as they traveled Up and down Hwy 101 this show me that a lot of you are reading Hip-Camp reviews,, Keep it up and keep camping The Park Elk are all over the place now days. Some days you will see and then like a Ghost there gone just as fast as they come,, but the Redwoods will be here for 1000s of more years .. Will I only have 10 more days here at the park then off to Trinity Lake,, I am planning to be there for the summer, But remember there is a lot of State Parks In Calif. and they all have their own spectacular adventure awateing you,, Happy Camping; from both of us,

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park has their Hike and Bike Day.
It started last Oct! It is on the first Sat. Of each month. Form
Oct. through June it is held on the Newton Drury Scenic Parkway;;
They close the Parkway for HIKERS , BIKERS, NON-MOTORIZED
VEHICLE, DOG-ON-LEASH, SKATEBOARDS , ROLLERBLADES
ARE ALL WELCOME ON THE PARKWAY,
Which the Parkway closed to cars this is a great opportunity.
Visitor with DISABILITIES can take advantage of the smooth
Pavement.
Old growth Redwoods line both sides of the road, Each time
You come it is a new adventure Be safe have fun and we hope to see

We at Prairie Creek Redwoods had a great time this last week end..
They had the 29th. Annual Candlelight Walk.. The first night it rained
But that did not detour any one from coming ‘’ they lined the trail with
Lighted candlelight it went from the Visitor Center all the to the camp fire center
The storyteller was out standing,, Sat night was a sale out again ;;;
More then a 100 local business and individual help make the Candlelight walk
Possible;;; THE REDWOOD PARKS CONSERVANCY. DID A GREAT JOB,,,
lots of food ,, hot cider,, cookies,, Auction. Raffle
If you get a chance next year it a must. 2K19. Will be just as great

This park is a hikers dream
More then 75 miles of trails
Out of the 31 marked trails 15 are in the easy class
10 in the moderate class
6 in the moderate to strenuous class
But which ever hike you pick the joy of being and seeing
OLD-GROWTH REDWOODS well be a treat for
The whole family
Make sure you take the time to look at the trees
The best family trail is the 3.2 mile prairie creek trail
Revelation trail is my top pick 3/4 mile hike
Then there is James Irvine trail 4.5 out to Furn Canyon
And the coast.. the total loop is 12 miles. ( Furn Cayon is a must )
To many trails to tell you about. But every trail in the is worth hiking

Tell me about the primitive hike in campsites. Are they right on the beach? Do they fill up? I cant figure out how to reserve them. How far is the hike? Coming from ND and have two young boys, so curious if it is a fairly easy hike to the primitive camping?

This campsite was absolutely beautiful! Definitely worth the trip. As for the road to the campsite, not bad at all. A lot of people wrote here not to do it with a smaller car but we did with a Mitsubishi sedan, rental. There were also a lot of smaller cars at the campsite as well. There are a lot of pot holes but just avoid them and go slow. By far the best campsite iv ever stayed at.

Beautiful area to camp. I absolutely love it here. Fairly close to the ever popular spot "Fern Canyon," as well as some extremely beautiful old growth redwoods of Prairie creek. One of my favorites without a doubt.

The bear boxes are metal and only shut with a slam. Plan out your late night snack and beverage needs before 10pm.

Report from your Shirtless Host on Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park
It is getting better as I go south down the coast line. To get to the park you have to drive aways west off Hwy 101 but it is a must! Roosevelt Elk were everywhere l saw at least 10 to 15 or more. This is not just another out standing Redwood park! Lots of camp sites l think the Ranger said about 100 of them ! You have the Elk Prairie or Gold Bluffs Beach camp grounds. Along with 75 miles of hiking trails
With Exhibits along with Guided Tours, Family Programs, Ed. Exhibits, 19 miles of Bike Trails and also Surfing. Remember no dogs on the trails!!
You got to see Fern Canyon it was used in the Jurassic park movie.

It was early in the season, so roads were closed due to downed redwoods, and the sites down by the river were pretty murky. I stayed up by the prairie and had a sweet morning view of fog and antlers from the male elk that live in the valley! Friendly camp host, too.

Making you work for the views, you first travel down a pretty long (and pot hole filled), gravel road around the bluffs to then enter one of the best campgrounds on the coast! Pitching a tent right off the ocean you have instant beach access the second you wake up. You'll be sure to spot some elk on your way in and out of the grounds.

So many elk! So many hikes! And nice and cool during the hot months. It rained pretty heavily on us but our time was still incredible. Love the redwoods and this campground and park were amazing!

Loved this campsite. The drive in was dramatic - the sun was flickering through the redwood trees and casting pillars of light alongside the road. We drove slowly with the windows down, smelling the scent of the moist October forest with our jaws dropped wide open at the scenery and all-around perfectness of the Fall day. When we reached the grounds we had a few different choices of campsites and elected one at the far edge of camp to have some extra privacy. The sunsets could only be described as triumphant and there are just a few precious moments when the sun drops to the right level that you must turn around to face the bluffs - you will find them in their namesake state - as GOLD AS GOLD! Can't wait to return!

Beautiful, unique campsite. Be ready for lots of wind and sand. You'll need major sand stakes, maybe even some short rebar stakes! Bring an extra tarp to use as a wind break.
Don't miss the hike up nearby Fern Canyon. One of the most magical places I've ever been.

Gorgeous campground right on the beach and very close to Fern Canyon. Access to running water, bear boxes and toilets were very convenient. There are two options when staying here: backwoods camping (what we did) and car camping.

What a place! The drive to get to Gold Bluff beach is such an adventure! The road takes you up and down a 6-mile, single-lane dirt road that takes about 30 minutes, twisting and winding through towering redwoods. To our surprise, there were still quite a few camping spots available. (We visited mid-October.) Gold Bluff has clean restrooms, a couple solar heated showers, and big bear boxes right at each campsite. After backpacking the Tetons the week prior, we felt like we were living a life of luxury! Amazing sunset. And sunrise. And only a handful of people around for miles. Go there!

Hands down the most beautiful campground I've ever stayed in. Right on the ocean and easy access to some amazing redwood hikes. Beautiful bluffs and really no better place to enjoy a good sunset.

There are few campsites adjacent to the fields where the Elk graze, but the most beautiful sites are the among the mossy trees. The 11.6 mile day hike along the James Irving trail to Fern Canyon and Gold Bluffs beach and then back along Miners Ridge Trail is spectacular. (see link below) Pack a lunch, hike to Fern Canyon, chill on the beach for a few hours and then hike back to camp through some of the most spectacular redwood trees you will ever see.
