The Lost Dutchman Italian Bar Camp is a 160 acres of Priviately Owned Patented Mining land and our priviate campground located in the Stanislaus National Forest and on the South Fork of the Stanislaus River, which runs through the camp.
Camping is available on both side of the river making the Italian Bar camp a destination for campers since we rebuilt the camp from the ground up in the late 1970’s.
Whether you want to relax in your campsite listening to the river, dip your toes in the cool waters or try your hand at panning for gold, I-Bar offers all of this and more. There are miles of hiking opportunities around the camp as well, from short river hikes to Trailblazing like the Miners of old. Little History:
The property was discovered and first settled around 1849 as a gold rush mining camp. At one time over 3,000 people lived here and mined for gold. When the gold rush came to an end so did Italian Bar. Until over a hundred years later, In 1976 when our founder fell in love with this remote property and purchased the land and we began rebuilding the I-Bar camp from the ground up and opened it to our members. It didn't hurt that somewhere close by Our founder found a 800oz pocket of gold. Even today, Prospecting for gold is encouraged!
If you want to try your hand at “Gettin on some of the shiny” let the Caretakers know! We have a few gold pans we loan out that are just waiting for some color to make you smile.
Of course we have pans for sale.
If you’re an avid outdoors person, carrying a gold pan with you just makes sense.

The L3 Ranch was founded in 1974 when my grandfather bought the property for his show cows. In 1978, someone gave him a racehorse to pay off a debt. From then on, the property was known for its Quarter horse race horses, with some of the best in the state being born right here. In 2013 he found our he had cancer and handed the ranch down to me, Travis. While he survived the cancer, he's happy in retirement playing cards with his buddies every week and hanging out with his dog.Now the ranch is known for its horse boarding, cattle, and goats. The marbleized limestone outcropping is a prominent site feature that's culturally, geologically, and historically significant. It was used as a communal grinding rock — Chaw'se — by the Miwok to process acorns into meal for food. This same rock formation was later hydraulically mined for gold in the second half of the 19th century, amidst some of the largest mining operations during the California Gold Rush. Downtown Murphys, our local gold-mining town turned quaint wine country destination, is just 1.5 miles away.

The Soup is down the driveway a couple hundred yards from where we usually are so you’ll more or less be on your own, depending on if we have work to do down there or if there are other campers. We are happy to chat or leave you be, just let us know what your needs are. If you’re looking for a more isolated spot, see the listings for 1 Pine or 2 Pine.
The 2nd area is “1 Pine” accessed by our second driveway that is 100 yards down the road from the farm. The driveway is kind of rough but definitely manageable with a truck, SUV or sedan if you’re willing to go for it. The drive goes up a couple hundred yards to the hilltop where there is a clearing and, you guessed it, 1 pine tree. From the back of the clearing there is a trail that leads you to 2 Pine, which is a walk that takes just a few minutes. 2 Pine is walk-in only but has great views of the sunset and is totally secluded and private and would be a good spot to either bring some friends for a little sunset party or for someone who wants to seriously unplug. There are plenty of flat spots to pitch a tent.

For this reason, we ask all campers to be mindful about storing food and disposing of trash in the provided bins. The ranch is comprised of the camping lawns, camping facilities, several homes on the property (two Air BnB and the owner's home) and the motorcycle workshop. Car and RV campers are welcomed and there is plenty of car/RV parking on the asphalt lot outside the fence at the East Side of the property near the mailboxes at the intersection of Rte 4 and Brice Station Road. Our grassy lawn tent area is inaccessible to vehicles and RVs. Our parking area is adjacent to the highway and may not be what rooftop and van/rv campers are expecting in terms of a peaceful camping experience. If you have tent, it’s recommended to camp out on the lawn. We have tents for rent if you need one.

Great place, Ferry isn't always running, one is completely down, the other has "occasional" staffing issues, the one that got us to Rio Vista was open, so good their. Rabbits everywhere!....little cute ones. The are in the process of "updating", so good job there, lots of nooks and crannies to fish from, can't wait to get back!

Site right on the water! Can’t find that for the price these days. Everyone is so friendly. Older campground with renovations in the works. Will be a gem once updates are complete. NOTE- Campground is hard to find if dependent on any of the online driving directions (Waze/mapquest/ etc). so when getting directions you must click “avoid ferries” box if you are an RV or have a travel trailer, but our Waze/mapquest kept wanting to update with new faster directions as we drove there that constantly led us to the ferry which you can not take with a travel trailer. Suggest getting directions and screenshot them and write down directions prior to leaving on trip otherwise your navigation system will steer you the wrong way.
Make sure you have everything you need since a store is 30 min away.
Plan accordingly with the above and you will have a great time!

Such a quiet and serene stay. We were pleasantly surprised that we had the place pretty much to ourselves. We can imagine the weekends being filled with bustling campers and boaters.
Janna was flexible in allowing us to move to a site nestled under a set of beautiful trees as we awaited the RV repair for our air conditioning! The breeze was nice and watching the sunlight dancing on the water was just what we needed to start our getaway trip. We were able to back our van right up to the dock at the Delta! It was so peaceful that we stayed another night!

Excellent quality, commercial grade electric pedestals, and dual water hookups in an immaculately maintained site. Covered table with a tub full of great games. Amazing details and touches throughout the camp area and beyond. Beautiful boulders and Rock outcroppings. You'll be tickled by all the amusing details. A marked trail where you will find deer, quail, and of course Squirrels! There are many attractions nearby. We even caught an amazing show (Don't Touch That Dial), at the Fallon Theater, which is located at the Columbia State Historic Park. The cast was so good, and it was the most fun we've ever er had at a theater show. Catch it if you can! We love SRC, and will be returning for more fun and relaxing privacy. We had a wonderful stay at Snug Harbor RV Park & Marina! The park is peaceful, clean, and a great place to relax with the family.
We especially want to thank Jana for her outstanding hospitality and kindness. During our stay, we had a couple of small issues with our campsite, and she went above and beyond to help us. She was able to move us to a much better site, which made a huge difference and allowed us to fully enjoy our weekend.
Jana truly cares about her guests and made us feel welcome from start to finish. Thanks to her help, our family had an amazing and memorable stay.
We highly recommend this RV park and will definitely be happy to come back in the future.

My wife, our dog and I had a great time. Julie met with us when we arrived and made us feel very welcome. This a secluded site and they have done a great job decorating it. There is a winery and restaurants minutes away. We will be back

Our campsite was next to the water. Campground is well kept. We enjoyed watching the wildlife which included wild rabbits. Be sure and follow the directions provided with the reservation confirmation.

It felt like you were in your own little oasis. Very private and quiet, especially during the Memorial Holiday! Saw a few deer and one decided to hang out in our campsite for a few hours. I highly recommend Squirrel Rock Campground and Julie was an awesome host!

We really enjoyed this campground. It was very unique, private and yet close to town. We would highly recommend it to all!!! Our family was able to camp right beside us and all the grandkids enjoyed the box of games and exploring, we also played horseshoes and watched the abundent wildlife in this natural setting. 10 Stars from all of us!!!

We had the best time camping here with family. It is so unique and so beautiful. Very private! We enjoyed watching all the animals and even had a deer come through the camp. We would highly recommend squirrel rock campground. We enjoyed playing horseshoes and hide and seek with the grandkids!
