24mi from Upper Yosemite Falls · 13 sites · Tents, RVs · Groveland, CA
Welcome to Your Basecamp for Yosemite Adventure 🌲⛰ Just 15–20 minutes from the entrance of Yosemite National Park and about an hour from the Yosemite Valley floor, our camp offers the perfect location to recharge after exploring one of the most iconic natural landscapes on Earth. We’re also about 1.5 hours from the high-country beauty of Tuolumne Meadows, making this a great launchpad for day trips in every direction. Perched in the scenic Sierra foothills, our dry camping sites are celebrated for breathtaking panoramic views, open skies, and unforgettable sunrises and starry nights. It’s an ideal place to unwind, reconnect, and experience the outdoors in its raw beauty — without giving up the comfort of flushing toilets and hot, on-demand showers. Most of our sites are best suited for those who plan to explore during the day and return in the evening, as they receive full sun and have limited shade throughout the midday hours (during the summer months). For those looking to hang around camp during the day, we recommend bringing a shade canopy or pop-up to make your stay more comfortable. Whether you’re here for epic hikes, rock climbs, or peaceful views, our camp is a restful and rustic homebase nestled close to the wonders of Yosemite.

Camp with Critters

26mi from Upper Yosemite Falls · 1 site · Tent, RV · Mariposa, CA
Sharing my life and property with rescued animals has become a full time job full of joy and lessons learned. What great teachers they are. I began to share the experiences with my animals by offering a unique farm tour called coffee with Critters and I find that I really enjoy sharing this lifestyle with like minded folk. If you love animals and want to camp near them please join me. Learn more about this land: Your campsite will be nestled among animal enclosures, listen to the munching of hay or the snorting of the horse. Your stay will include a modified animal tour and you can engage with horse, goats, rabbits, chickens, ducks and more... dogs and cats of course ;). I have a couple of spots but I would be flexible regarding campsite. My toilet is a compost toilet.  The outside shower has been upgraded with privacy curtains etc following suggetions from previous campers ;) I have a million $$ view and a modest house. My house is about 45 minutes from the Yosemite park entrance and it's an easy commute back/forth. Flowering vines cover my outdoor porches where we have big dinners when Wwoofers or Couchsurfers are in residence. The property is home to many animals, horse, goats, pigs, chickens, peacocks, rabbits, guinea pigs - dogs & cats - of course! :-) . The roosters wake us up pretty early so fair warning about that - but I love living with them and it makes the property so much more friendly with all the critters. My house is pet friendly and yours are welcome if they are 1. Fixed, 2. Are social and friendly with my pets, 3. Will not chase the cats and chickens. I can babysit your pups if you go to the park - provided they are compliant with rules above. I work from home. There are loads of trails nearby and 2 pretty ponds and plenty of wildlife, deer, turkeys and more. The property is rolling hills however there are plenty of flat areas for tents. NO FIRES PERMITTED ANYWHERE ON MY PROPERTY APRIL-OCTOBER - non negotiable.

The best camping near Upper Yosemite Falls, CA guide

Overview

About

Upper Yosemite Falls is one of the most breathetaking sites to see during your visit to Yosemite Valley. 2,400 ft above the valley floor the water begins it's freefall and by the time the water reaches the rocks below it has become a pleasant cooling mist that is sure to raise the spirits of any hiker. While the larger Upper Falls are visible from a footbridge near the easily accessible Lower Falls it is well worth it to take the 7 mile round-trip to the top. Once you emerge onto the overlook Yosemite Valley presents itself with stunning views of Half Dome and Sentinel Rock.

When to go

The best time to visit Upper Yosemite Falls is in the spring, when the water flow is at its peak, offering a truly stunning experience. Summer brings hot, dry conditions, while winter can present icy trails. To avoid disappointment, check the Yosemite Falls webcam for current views before planning your trip.

Know before you go

  • Start your hike early to avoid the mid-day heat, especially during summer months.
  • Carry at least 4 quarts of water as there are no drinking water facilities along the trail.
  • Wear sturdy hiking boots to navigate the rocky and sometimes slippery terrain.
  • Stay on the trail to protect the environment and for your safety, as there are steep drop-offs.
  • Check for seasonal trail conditions and closures before your visit.
