At the foot of the Watagan mountains, close to the Watagan 4WD tracks, picnic areas, and bike tracks. Also close to Lake Macquarie where you will find fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing etc. About a 20 - 40 min drive to beautiful beaches. Ideal for those wanting to be surrounded by birds, nature and a couple of friendly doggos. Also great for people wanting to try out their new camper, van or tent for the 1st time as we are an easy 1 hour drive north of Sydney on the M1 and close enough to shops for those forgotten items. Also we have unfenced dams and waterways, if you are camping with young children please consider carefully and let me know before booking. We have very basic bathroom facilities of 1 flushing toilet in the shed and an outdoor warm shower. Please read the site rules and camping conditions to ensure this site suits your needs.

This is an open flat sunny site by the dam. As it is directly by the dam it is not suitable for very small children. There are two sites for Brookes Nook one by each dam. Drinking water and toilet are about 50 meters away in the shack.

This is a large open campsite under a giant pine tree, with views of almost the entire property. Behind the site is bush leading down to the creek. There are a few walks down there, a bike track for the kids, plenty of fallen wood to collect for your campfire and if you are lucky and quiet you might see a deer, wombat, platypus, bandicoot or or a wallaby. You will certainly see and hear a large array of birds.

This is our most popular camping site. A beautiful quiet clearing in the bush. You could be a million miles from anywhere but your a short 3 minuet drive to the shops. Fire pit and an abundance of fallen wood for you to collect. Beautiful glimpses of the dam and it's island and just behind you down the hill is the creek with bush walking tracks to explore. This site can take a single camper or a group.

Great campground! The sites are nice and flat, and each one is spaced far enough apart that you hardly notice other campers. The grass is well-maintained, and you can buy firewood on site—it’s much better quality than what you find at petrol stations. The grounds are easy to navigate, and best of all, the hosts are absolutely lovely.

Bunyip's HideAway primitive camp
It's a great spot not far from Sydney, there were other campers on the property but it was really private and noise didn't travel. The toilet is v basic but works, didn't use the shower. Lisa met us on arrival and was very helpful and friendly.

Awesome spot for checking out the Cooranbong area. Big, quiet camping areas with plenty of room to spread out and have some privacy. Lisa was super friendly and helpful. Loved having fire pits available too. My mates and I had such a great time—the place is so green and peaceful, perfect for kicking back and relaxing. Definitely recommend, and I’ll be back for sure!

Awesome spot for checking out the Cooranbong area. Big, quiet camping areas with plenty of room to spread out and have some privacy. Lisa was super friendly and helpful. Loved having fire pits available too. My mates and I had such a great time—the place is so green and peaceful, perfect for kicking back and relaxing. Definitely recommend, and I’ll be back for sure!

Big thanks to Rob and Lisa. Great communication and hosts. Stayed 1 night at Hideaway site and was super private and relaxing. Beautiful bushland and river very close. Recommend taking own toilet as walk is a fair distance. Will be back. Monique and Brad

Nice, easy location. Perfect for medium sized groups. Plenty of space to kick a ball or play some games. Toilet amenities are a bonus. Not flashy but all you need. Animals (roosters and cows) are a bit noisy early morning, but none of us found it an issue.

I stayed at Binyup as a single guest. It was so peaceful at night in the Top Paddock. Yes the Roosters have a lot say in the morning but I love it. Definetely recommend this spot.

Pros: Lovely spot nestled among beautiful trees with plenty of space. Friendly owners who stayed up late for our arrival to show us our campsite which was very kind of them. I would definitely camp here again in the summer to make use of the creek. Cons: Firewood for sale at around $1.00/kg which I thought was a bit steep. It was good quality though. Entry to toilet is covered by a tarp which is slightly skewed and leaves a gap where people can see in - although wasn’t an issue since we had the place to ourselves.

We had a wonderful stay at Bunyip’s HideAway Primitive Camp! Lisa and Robert were fabulous hosts—very welcoming and helpful. Their dog Titan was also a lovely surprise—such a friendly and sweet doggo! We chose the HideAway Primitive Camp, and it was perfect for a peaceful getaway. I enjoyed a short hike around the property and found a small creek, which was a nice bonus. Another thing I appreciated was that firewood was available on-site for purchase, so I didn’t have to worry about bringing it from elsewhere. Overall, it’s a beautiful and quiet spot, and I’m already planning to come back! Highly recommended for anyone looking to relax and enjoy nature.

Bunyip's Top Paddock.
Me and my mates enjoyed staying here, found it semi private away from other campers. It was nice waking up to hearing nature surrounding us. Lisa was very accommodating and helped us settle in. Will definitely like to come back again

We had a great weekend. The sites are large and even though there was quite a few people, we still had loads of room and privacy. The hosts met every guest and showed them to their sites, and the fire pits are perfect. We were self contained so didn't need the shower and toilet....however there is one available. Yes it's a little old, but it's a primitive site and does the job! We would definitely return....a lovely place to unwind and relax.

The property is beautiful with lots of mature trees and plenty of space for campers and their doggos to enjoy privacy. To have a fire pit and firewood provided inexpensively was a plus too. Though primitive, the flushing toilet was appreciated as not enough hipcamp hosts offer this. It was also very nice to be greeted and helped settle in. I would visit again.

We are a young family and we stayed here overnight. We loved how peaceful and quiet the site was. Our site under the Pine tree was clean and there is a designated campfire area. Highly recommended.

Lovely land, easy to get to by 2WD and convenient fire pits scattered around. There was one group playing obnoxiously loud music for a short time but they stopped pretty quickly (someone must have asked them to turn it down). Plentiful sounds of wildlife and farm animals (most notably a rooster crowing, cows mooing and some curious strangling squawking sounds by the dam at night) brought the ambience right back. Beautiful mist in the morning and campsites are really well spaced apart to provide a real sense of privacy most campsites lack. Definitely recommend, lovely getaway from the concrete and traffic sounds of the city 🙂 will visit again soon!

The property is a tranquil bush setting , with the majority of the camp sites set into individual private bush areas , with larger areas for groups of friends that wish to camp together. i have been there many times , and continue to go back as Bunyip is just so nice , and the hosts Lisa and Robert are friendly and welcoming. cannot wait till my next time at Bunyip

It was a very quiet spot camped under a huge pine tree, very cosy. Good quality firewood for purchase. The camp spot backed onto a very dark and moody creek, definitely home to Bunyips. The hosts were very welcoming. A nice spot.

Large and well-maintained campgrounds. The owner and her dog are very friendly. We had only an overnight stay. The site is close from supermarkets and local breweries.
