We live on a picturesque 400 acre property, high in the Darling Range an hour north of Perth. The property overlooks Lake Chittering with sweeping views to the horizon. The native bush here is typical of the Darling Ranges, featuring Jarrah, Marri, Wandoo, Xanthorea and Banksia. Fed by the mighty Brockman river, the pretty Chittering Lake is almost completely obscured by vegetation. The lake features lots of birdlife including swans, wood ducks, spoonbills and wedgetail eagles. The Chittering valley has much to offer including scenic walks and local cellar doors. The springtime is full of the region's wildflowers, and if you're visiting around October don't miss A Taste of Chittering, the food and wine festival showcasing local produce. Julimar Forest Camp

13. Julimar Forest Camp

77km from Moore River National Park · 1 site · Tent, RV · Julimar, WA
Tucked away on a quiet bush block just 15 minutes from the historic town of Toodyay, Julimar Forest Camp offers a single, private wild-camping site surrounded by native jarrah, marri, and wandoo forest. Here, you’ll share the land only with kangaroos grazing at dawn, black- and red-tailed cockatoos calling overhead, and a chorus of native birds through the day. This is true bush camping — peaceful, secluded, and simple. Guests bring their own water, cooking setup, and waste systems (bins provided for rubbish). There’s no power or amenities, just the sounds of the bush and endless starry skies. It’s ideal for self-sufficient campers seeking stillness, privacy, and a genuine connection with nature. Why guests love it: - One private site — no other campers nearby. - Native wildlife and birdlife all around. - Seasonal wildflowers in a stunning bush setting. - Star-filled skies and total quiet. - Close to Toodyay for supplies and day trips. Good to know: - Bring all your own water, cooking gear, and waste systems. - Rubbish bins provided; all other waste to be taken out. - Unpowered site — no amenities or lighting. - Fires permitted only outside the local prohibited burning period. - Vehicle accessible (2WD in dry weather). - Respect the wildlife and quiet of the bush — it’s what makes this place special.

14. One Green Sheep

100%
(73)
48km from Moore River National Park · 3 sites · Tents, RVs · Bindoon, WA
One Green Sheep is a 500 acre working farm north of Bindoon, Western Australia, with beautiful breakaways and valleys, patches of natural vegetation and old stand trees in amongst pockets of cropped land. We are just over an hour from Perth at the very north end of the Darling Range with enormous starry night skies. My husband Kim and I have a strong focus on the environment and sustainability in our every day lifestyle and care for the land. Over the last 10 years or so we have planted almost 67,000 trees and shrubs successfully establishing wildlife corridors right across the property. We now also have 20 artificial nest tubes to support the Carnabys black cockatoos who return each August to breed. Our intention is to leave the land in a better state than when we first came here and we now want to share the wonderful environment with others, providing a place to get away and recharge as well as get excited about nature and all its wonders. In line with our environmental focus, we ask campers to Leave No Trace. This means you will need to have your own toilet facilities with you, you will need to take all your rubbish away with you and leave your car parked for the duration of your stay. As fallen timber is precious habit for small creatures (it’s not firewood!) you will need to purchase firewood from us for your stay. Please note that due to the Perth area now being in the Polyphagus Shothole Borer quarantine area you are no longer be able to bring firewood with you from the city. This is to safeguard our precious site and the surrounding bush. (Please get in touch with us if you aren't coming from Perth). Dogs are welcome but please keep them with you and don’t let them chase stock or wildlife. You are welcome to bring push bikes, or to explore on foot. We’d love to welcome you to this wonderful ecosystem. You will be camping in an area natural bush that feels a million miles from the city.

The best camping in Moore River National Park, WA guide

Overview

About

Bird-watching and bushwalking opportunities abound at Moore River National Park, where heathlands and eucalyptus forests hug the riverbanks. Set along the Indian Ocean Drive and a 1.5-hour drive north of Perth, it’s close to regional highlights like Yanchep National Park and the Lancelin Sand Dunes—and often much less crowded. As the river winds its way to the Indian Ocean, shallow sandbars open up, providing scenic spots for swimming, canoeing, and boating. There’s no camping in the park itself, but numerous private camping sites can be found in the area.

When to go

The best time for bushwalking, water activities, and camping in and around the national park is September through May. Summer (December through February) is peak season, when the park makes a popular getaway from nearby Perth, drawing crowds to cool off in the river, especially on sunny weekends. Springtime serves up the most colorful views, with wildflowers blooming along the heathlands. Most campsites and caravan parks in the area stay open year-round.

Know before you go

  • Moore River National Park lies just north of the Moore River’s mouth, where you’ll find a general store, public restrooms, and BBQ areas. There are no facilities within the park itself, so bring all supplies with you.
  • Entrance fees and national park passes are not required for Moore River National Park.
  • Many of the tracks within the park are sandy and accessible only by 4WD.
  • Nearby camping can be found at the free Beermullah Rest Area, which offers basic facilities, and Guilderton Caravan Park, home to chalets and powered caravan sites.
