Three years ago our multi-generational family decided to go on an adventure. We had talked about moving to the woods for years, but finally decided to turn our dreams into reality. After hiking through what felt like every property for sale over 100 acres in North Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, we finally found the perfect spot.
Why do we call our property Whippoorwill Woods? Did you know that whippoorwills don’t nest in trees? They lay their eggs on the ground in the forest. They’re birds that love camping! As soon as we heard the whippoorwills start singing in the spring, we knew it was the perfect name.
We’re so excited to share our property with campers who love nature as much as we do. We specifically set up the campsites to give as much privacy as possible. We hope you’ll come visit and soak up the bird songs, the wind in the trees, and the beautiful sunsets over the mountains. We have 20 acres of savannah grassland full of native plants and wildflowers and over 80 untouched acres full of awesome rock formations and creeks with waterfalls available for you to hike. There's a gorgeous view overlooking the Cumberland Plateau and the Sherwood Valley.
Experienced and beginner campers are welcome! We live on one side of the property, so we’re available to assist (setting up tents for the first few times is no joke!) or we’re happy to give you as much space and solitude as you need. We have three campsites available in the native savannah grassland. We have a porta-potty available, but you'll need to bring your water with you. If you have any questions, or if there’s anything we can do to help, don’t hesitate to ask!

We had such a wonderful stay at Hixson Farms! The farm was beautiful, peaceful, and such a fun place to get away and enjoy some fresh air. The Highland cows were definitely a favorite and made the whole experience even more special. Janna was absolutely wonderful—so kind, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. You can tell she truly cares about making sure her guests have a great experience. We made some really sweet memories here and would absolutely recommend Hixson Farms to anyone looking for a unique and relaxing getaway!

Awesome new campsite! The hosts are lovely. They met us and let us pick wherever we’d like to go, plus goody bags and some wood! The hook ups are great, amazing view from the ridge off to the north east. Clear skies and bright stars. No blinding camp lights which is amazing! Most campsites have huge pillars that blast light into your tents, but this one was really serene. New bathrooms and showers, and only a couple minutes down the street from Cherokee Rock Village for climbing (no power there). Excited to have a good spot to base camp at for long climbing weekends!

We were a little concerned to have other people so close, but we never heard them. The bathroom was very nice and we enjoyed using the outdoor shower. My kids enjoyed the tree swing, playing with the dogs/cat, and running through the pasture. The owner was very accommodating and took us to see all the animals even in the rain. She invited my daughter to bottle feed a calf. We were close enough to spend a day in Chattanooga and a day at the battlefield, with time left to relax at the campsite. If you want a true campground experience, this is not it. But if you want an adventure that is a little different and have an idea what to expect, it is great! I do recommend bringing some boots/outdoor shoes because you are literally camping in a pasture and your feet will get dirty.

Rodger’s property was just lovely! It was exactly as described. He was a very responsive and personable host, who clearly wants people to feel comfortable and happy at the site. It’s a small and quaint campsite, if you are looking for something not as big as an RV park or giant state park. The campsites are quite big and spread apart, so you don’t feel like you’re on top of each other. I definitely recommend staying here if you’re in the area.

Beautiful property with nice amenities, but our site wasn’t waters edge, or even water view, and it didn’t have WiFi or even good cell signal, which was pretty disappointing since it was advertised as having those things.

What a lovely spot to camp before the night. It was fun to see all of the animals, and I had an opportunity to feed one! I bought some of her farm fresh eggs. We had a delightful campfire and a restful evening.

Great little campground! The host met us, even though we arrived late to make sure we could get in ok. Site 10 is a back in site up on the hill. They are expanding, but the construction didn't get in the way and the campground is very clean and tidy. Will be back!

Janna was the perfect host! My grandson loved camping near all the animals, and was thrilled to be invited to bottle-feed the Highland calf! He met donkeys, goats, cows, mini horses, bunnies, and chickens, and loved having the farm dogs follow him around. The site was perfect, although unlevel (bring lots of leveling blocks), with 30 amp electric, water, and sewer. A fire pit and picnic table completed the beautiful site under the magnolia tree. We can't wait to go back again, and highly recommend this farm campground!

Rodger was fantastic! He contacted me immediately after I booked (my notifications were off, so wasn't aware) ... it was so nice to be advised in advance of what to expect.
I feel that his description & check in procedures were exactly stated. He offered additional site information based on his current occupancy & we really appreciated his "real-time" assessment.
We selected this site based on location. It was an easy access to Greenville, Scottsboro, Chattanooga & Hwy 59 (when we departed).
We would definitely stay again & recommend to our fellow campers.

Great site, Great hosts, great Trail bike rental!
We had a wonderful time at Giorgio’s campsite at Little River Adventures. The pitches are well laid out with picnic tables and fire rings. There is a bathhouse with a hot shower and toilet. Giorgio and Tiffany were great hosts and we enjoyed a morning on his XT 250 trail bikes that he rents out for some truly awesome trail rides. Bikes are very, very well maintained and Giorgio is a great teacher. The area around the site is beautiful with plenty of great sights, and Fort Payne is a great little town to visit. Highly recommend to anyone.

Amazing beauty
Hiked the Lower Two Mile Trail down to the river and checked out a couple of overlooks. We stayed two nights at Little River Adventure Company. This is a perfect spot close to the canyon and the host Giorgio is awesome
